Fantasy NASCAR Rankings: KC Masterpiece 400 at Kansas Speedway

Fantasy NASCAR Expert Brian Polking reveals the top drivers gearing up for the KC Masterpiece 400 at Kansas Speedway! Get ready to DOMINATE!

When you are talking about the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule, you can never go too long with a trip to a 1.5-mile oval. This Saturday night, Kansas Speedway will host the fourth race of the year at a mile-and-a-half track.

If you have been reading my rankings this year, then you already know that I love to load up my lineups with big names whenever the series visits a 1.5-mile track, and I’ll be using the same strategy for Saturday’s KC Masterpiece 400.

Year in and year out, the top drivers from the top teams tend to deliver strong results across all the races at mile-and-a-half ovals. Granted, we only have three races to go by so far in 2018, but the top two scorers at 1.5-mile tracks are Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick. If you were picking the championship frontrunners, these same two drivers would top the list.

For season-long Fantasy NASCAR games like Fantasy Live or the Driver Group game that limit the number of times out can use each driver, maximizing the results from the top options is just as important as knowing when to utilize midrange options and sleepers. The gap between the top options and the rest of the field tends to be the widest at the mile-and-a-half tracks, so it only makes sense to use your starts from these top drivers at these tracks.

I’ll be very aggressive with my lineup construction this weekend, and I recommend that you do the same. You should be able to load up your rosters and post some big point totals.

1. Kevin Harvick, #4 Jimmy Johns/Busch Beer, Stewart-Haas Racing

Harvick has two wins and a second-place finish in the three races at 1.5-mile tracks this year, and he also owns an excellent record at Kansas. No driver has scored more points in the last 10 races here, and six finishes of third or better in that span and has led double-digit laps eight times.

2. Kyle Busch, #18 M&M’s, Joe Gibbs Racing

He has a 3.3 average finish at the 1.5-mile ovals this year, and Busch has been locked in at Kansas. He has six straight Top 10s at the track, logging five Top 5s and leading more than 50 laps in three of the last four.

3. Martin Truex, Jr., #78 Furniture Row, Furniture Row Racing

Truex swept both races at Kansas last year, and he is no stranger to dominant performances at the track. He has led more than 90 laps in four of the last six races here, and only Kevin Harvick has a better average finish in the last 10 races here.

4. Joey Logano, #22 Shell-Pennzoil, Team Penske

His six Top 5s in the last 10 races at Kansas are tied for the most in the series, and Logano is one of three drivers with multiple wins at the track in that stretch. He has also finished in the Top 10 in all three races at 1.5-mile tracks in 2018, compiling a 6.3 average finish.

5. Ryan Blaney, #12 Menards/PPG, Team Penske

Kansas has quickly become one of Blaney’s best tracks, and he has finished seventh or better in four of his six starts, notching Top 5s in both races last year. He also has Top 5s in two of the three races at 1.5-mile ovals this year. This is a great week to use Blaney in the Driver Group Game.
