Dr. Roto breaks down the latest NFL news affecting the Fantasy Football landscape, including the injuries of Ben Roethlisberger and Drew Brees!

Mason Rudolph

What a huge week for fantasy owners! Firstly, Big Ben’s injury is a tremendous blow to the Steelers as a whole. While I like Mason Rudolph, I still feel that he is about a year away from being “ready.” This obviously hurts the value of JuJu Smith-Schuster quite a bit. Donte Moncrief can be dropped, but James Washington might see an uptick in value since he played college football with Rudolph.Continue reading ...

Big Ben OUT for Season, Drew Brees to Miss Six Weeks

NEWS: Ben Roethlisberger will undergo a season-ending thumb surgery. Pittsburgh’s backup QB is Mason Rudolph.

ANALYSIS: Well folks, first we lost Andrew Luck to retirement. Now Big Ben is out and the injury bug also took a bite out of Drew Brees.

For the Steelers, this may be a knock-out blow to their postseason chances but there’s a reason they play the game every week and so will we. If you’ve lost Roethlisberger, secure the best backup you can if you don’t already have one. If you own a key piece of their offense, like JuJu or Conner, you can expect a dip in their production until Rudolph proves otherwise.Continue reading ...

Fantasy Football: Dr. Roto’s Week 2 Prescription Notes

For those Fantasy owners who have Bills RB Devin Singletary on their team, just be patient as his day as a starter is coming. The game script against the Giants worked in Frank Gore’s favor, but it’s obvious that Singletary will be the player to own in just a few short weeks.

The only Miami Dolphin that I am remotely willing to own at this point is WR Preston Williams. Everyone else seems to have bailed on the team. There are reports that RB Kenyan Drake might get his wish and be traded. This would increase the value of RB Kalen Ballage a smidge, but not enough to make a Fantasy dent.Continue reading ...

Melvin Gordon to return “at some point”

Melvin Gordon will end holdout “at some point”

NEWS: A report out of ESPN says, “This is not a Le’Veon Bell situation … He still wants to be a Charger. But he’s got to protect himself.”

ANALYSIS: The idea here is that Melvin Gordon wants to accrue a season towards his contract, which would make him a free agent in 2020. The rule is six weeks so that means he can return after Week 10 and still count this season. The problem now is that the Chargers are doing just fine without him it seems. OK, it’s been only one game but we already knew Austin Ekeler could perform both as a runner and pass-catcher given his body of work last season.… Continue reading ...

Fantasy Football: Week 2 Sleepers

Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals

The red riffle has almost become a Fantasy afterthought, but not so fast my friends. The Bengals are promoting an aggressive offense that could give the 49ers issues. San Francisco is also playing its second consecutive road game. Dalton could be a nice sleeper.

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks

For some strange reason, most national Week 2 rankings have Wilson buried in the teens? Pittsburgh’s secondary was torched for multiple big plays in Week 1. Did you know that in Wilson’s four starts against AFC teams in 2018 he threw for 10 TDs (2.5 TD average)?

Fantasy Football: Week 2 Deep Sleepers

Many of you play in very deep leagues, and there are several big injuries with impact players sitting out in Week 2. While these players aren’t ideal plays if you’re looking for a deep sleeper, here are a few to consider.

Oakland Raiders QB Derek CarrQB Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

Carr wasn’t highly desirable for fantasy this season, outside of leagues that start two quarterbacks or superflex formats. The Raiders did an excellent job protecting Carr in Week 1 against the Broncos, as he didn’t even get hit. Carr was 22-for-26 for 259 yards with a touchdown. The game script with be different this week with Carr trying to keep up the with the explosive Chiefs’ offense.Continue reading ...
