Week 4 Prescription Notes

— Giants RB Wayne Gallman might not be Saquon Barkley, but he played pretty well on Sunday rushing for 63 yards and grabbing 55 yards receiving with two TDs. The Giants are now 2-0 with QB Daniel Jones under center. This winning streak won’t continue for long, but at least it’s good to see that there is some energy once again in New York. WR Golden Tate returns from his suspension next week, so that will be another weapon for Jones to use.

— I really like Bills head coach Sean McDermott, but I think he made a major mistake going for it on fourth down when the Bills were losing 16-10. If they kick the field goal there (and make it), they have a chance to kick another FG later in the game to tie the score.

Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen— Bills QB Josh Allen took a wicked hit to knock him out of the game. There is no doubt he will be in concussion protocol until the very last minute of Week 5, so we need to watch his progression closely.

— The Titans played close to a perfect game against the Falcons. They ran the ball well, threw it well, and played great defense. If they can continue to play at this level, they can certainly make the playoffs. I am a big fan of WR A.J. Brown. He might be worth picking up in redraft leagues if Marcus Mariota can play as he did on Sunday.

— Browns RB Nick Chubb was tremendous against the Ravens. He looked so fast on that 88-yard run that I am not even sure OBJ could have caught him from behind. If the Browns want to continue their winning ways, they will have to feed Chubb and use Jarvis Landry way more than they have been. Landry was finally fed the football against the Ravens, and he looked unstoppable.

— I know the Detroit Lions lost, but I need to give credit to Lions head coach Matt Patricia. The Lions played exceptional defense and frustrated Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes all game long. Additionally, the Lions ran the ball 35 times which showed that they stuck to their game plan and didn’t let the Chiefs changed their style of play. That is a sign of an improving franchise.

— What’s going on with Texans WRs DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller? For the second week in a row, they were held way under their usual catch rate. QB Deshaun Watson was sacked six times, which has something to do with it for sure, but the Texans coaching staff needs to do a better job of play calling to get their weapons open.

— Knock on wood if you were shocked to see the Raiders win on the road in Indy. I know I was. QB Jacoby Brissett looked off and seemed to really miss WR T.Y. Hilton who was out with an injury. The Colts have a lot of weapons, but they need a second star to help Hilton. Rookie WR Parris Campbell is capable of being that player IF Frank Reich can find ways to get him more involved on offense.

— After watching the Chargers dismantle the Dolphins, I feel comfortable saying that RB Melvin Gordon will get his usually 18-20 touches beginning as soon as Week 5. Austin Ekeler is a great back, but Gordon is the battering ram that this offense desperately needs on the early downs.

— Ok, so let’s discuss the Chris Godwin situation. Godwin is out of practice basically all week long and looks questionable to play. Most Fantasy owners look for other options, and some decide to bench Godwin. Godwin then goes out and has 12 receptions for 172 yards and two TDs. So, what gives? Here’s what I think moving forward: never ever bench your studs if they are active. Overthinking could have cost many fantasy owners a victory this week—something that needs to be avoided to win a Fantasy championship.

— The Arizona Cardinals defense is truly one of the worst I have ever seen. They get tons of penalties and cannot tackle which puts the team in a losing situation most every game. It also makes it harder on QB Kyler Murray who needs to make a play on every possession for fear that his team will have no chance of winning. His pressing is affecting his throwing, which is making him look a lot shakier than he really is.

— This may be awful to say, but are the Bears a better team with Chase Daniel at QB than Mitch Trubisky? Daniel made all the right throws and kept the Vikings defense at bay for much of the game. I don’t think there will be a quarterback controversy in Chicago if Trubisky is healthy, but maybe there should be.

— Congratulations to RB Leonard Fournette and the rest of the Jaguars for their amazing win at Denver. Fournette was unstoppable running the football (225 yards), and QB Gardner Minshew did just enough to keep the team in the game even when they fell behind in the first half. More importantly, the Broncos run defense has struggled this year. This is something that fantasy owners need to realize as four games into the season is a definite pattern.

— It’s amazing to think that the Saints are 2-0 without Drew Brees, but they can thank their defense for their last two wins. The Saints held Dallas to 45 yards rushing on 20 carries, to help seal the victory. Dallas desperately needs WR Michael Gallup to return to make their offense more dynamic.
