Dynasty Football Rip Van Winkles
Here are ten players selected on Day 3 of the NFL Draft who might have Fantasy relevance in 2018:
Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman β Broncos GM John Elway might have gotten a huge bargain here with Freeman. Freeman was considered a potential first round pick going into his last season at Oregon but then was injured and saw a lot of eight-man defensive fronts. He will get the shot to win 1st and 2nd down carries in Denver and could find his way to 200+ carries this season.
Dallas Cowboys WR Michael Gallup β Gallup might be one of the most pro-ready receivers in this yearβs draft class which is a good thing since Dallas is going to need him to play right away now that Dez Bryant is gone. Heβs got good size and speed and now needs to work on his route tree. I think he could be in line for 40-45 catches this season.

Indianapolis Colts RB Nyheim Hines β Hit him with the Hines! Watch some game film on this guy and you will see that he plays like a slightly larger version of Darren Sproles. New HC Frank Reich worked with Sproles in Philadelphia and should know how to get both Hines and Mack free in space. If QB Andrew Luck is healthy this year, Hines could be in for a sneaky season in PPR leagues.
Houston Texans WR Keke Coutee β Coutee played at a wide-open offense at Texas Tech and should start in immediately as the teamβs new slot receiver. My friend (and NFL expert) down in Houston, Jayson Braddock calls Coutee a great fit for the Texans offense. He also is expected to play a huge role on special teams. Give him a slight bump if your league gives big points for return yardage.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway β Pairing Callaway up with Josh Gordon might be a little risky for the Browns. These two guys might end up living in the same halfway house during the week, but they can both play in big football stadiums on Sundays. Callaway is a supremely talented receiver whose draft stock fell due to his off-the-field issues. If he can get his mind right, he might end up being a dynasty darling and supplanting Corey Coleman in the offense.
Atlanta Falcons RB Ito Smith β Tevin Coleman is most likely going to leave the Falcons next season to pursue a starting job elsewhere, so if Ito Smith can impress the Falcons coaching staff he might work his way into the teamβs future plans. Smith is short and stocky, but he has a quick burst and is an exceptional pass catcher out of the backfield. He will start the season as the RB3, but I wouldnβt be shocked to see him get some playing time later on in the season if the Falcons decide to limit Devonta Freemanβs carries.
Indianapolis Colts WR Daurice Fountain β The Colts receiving corps is so bad right now that I am thinking of pulling a Vince Papale and seeing if I can be Invincible at an open tryout. Seriously, Ryan Grant is the teamβs WR2 so there is a huge opportunity for someone to step in and get some playing time. Fountain comes from Northern Iowa and still has a lot to learn, but he showed his potential by winning MVP at the East-West Shrine game. If he can keep learning and growing, he could end up being a significant part of the Coltsβ offense by seasonβs end.
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Samuels β Is Samuels a tight end? Running back? Regardless of where he fits in now, the team will find a spot for him at running back when itβs all said and done. In fact, he could become LeβVeon Bellβs backup if he can show the same speed and quickness that he did while at N.C. State. Samuels probably wonβt play a lot this year, but if I owned Bell, I might just take Samuels in the 20th round to be safe.
Indianapolis Colts RB Jordan Wilkins β The Coltsβ top two running backs, Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines, are smallish backs with great speed. Wilkins is a big bruising running back from Ole Miss and if he can beat out Robert Turbin in training camp, there is a good chance he could be the short yardage and goal line specialist for the Colts this season.
Los Angeles Rams RB John Kelly β Kelly played at Tennessee with Alvin Kamara, and although heβs not as gifted as his old teammate, he still has a chance to earn himself a backup job on the Rams this season behind Todd Gurley. Kelly will compete for the RB2 job with Malcolm Brown in training camp. My best guess is that it will come down to pass protection. If Kelly can pas protect and keep Jared Goff upright, he will get a chance to win the job. If not, he will end up being the RB3.
