Waiver Wire for Week 3
Quarterbacks
Mason Rudolph, Pittsburgh Steelers
Rudolph takes over for the injured Big Ben and to be honest I like his upside. He’s big, strong, and a terrific pocket passer. He kind of reminds me of a young Roethlisberger. I still think he’s a couple of years away from being really good, but he might surprise people and is definitely worth a waiver wire pickup.
Teddy Bridgewater, New Orleans Saints
Teddy B had a nightmare performance against the Rams. I know he wasn’t prepared to play in the game, but still, I expected more when he came in. I think there’s some talent here and he does have good skill players around him so if you lost Brees, Bridgewater is certainly worth a pickup.
Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts
Take a look at Brissett. He’s better than you think, and although Frank Reich is babying him a little bit with the play calling, I feel as the season unfolds he will be given more and more latitude to make adjustments.
Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals
Dalton has performed well over the first few weeks, and I think his good performance can continue. A.J. Green is due back probably in the next two or three games, and Dalton might be one of the top quarterbacks available.
Daniel Jones, New York Giants
The Giants finally decided to turn the team over to Jones in Week 3, and although it is absolutely the correct long-term decision, I am still a bit concerned about putting him out there with no Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate. To make matters worse, the Bucs defense has been incredibly stingy all season, so this looks to be a very tough matchup, at least on paper. Pick up Jones with an eye to the future, just not the present.
Case Keenum, Washington Redskins
I don’t really think much about Keenum, but he still has the starting job, and at a time where so many quarterbacks are getting injured, he certainly is worth picking up off the waiver wire.
Running Backs
Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers
Mostert might not get all the carries, but Kyle Shanahan will make sure that he’s part of a committee. He’s fast, he’s strong, and he can catch the ball out of the backfield too. I think he might be one of the top pickups this week.
Jeff Wilson, San Francisco 49ers
Right now Wilson is the third-string running back on the 49ers. He’s not going to perform the way he did this week against Cincinnati every week, but there is upside there so long as Coleman is still injured.
Jaylen Samuels, Pittsburgh Steelers
James Conner is not 100% due to a knee injury, and this might be the week that Samuels gets more opportunity. If he is still available in your league, you must pick him up right now.
Frank Gore, Buffalo Bills
Last week’s game against the Giants was a perfect game script for Gore. While I don’t expect those results every game, I do think that Gore will have a significant role in the games where the Bills are leading. If you play in standard formats, he is worthy of a pickup.
Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Barber is not a sexy player, but he’s shown the ability to grind it out and do a decent job in the Bucs offense. He may still be out there on your waiver wire, and he certainly is worthy of a pickup.
Chase Edmonds, Arizona Cardinals
For about five plays last week Edmonds was the starter for the Cardinals. If David Johnson should be injured for any length of time, Edmonds is absolutely the backup that you need to have. If you own Johnson, you better get Edmonds soon.
Wide Receivers
D.J. Chark, Jacksonville Jaguars
Chark has been terrific over the last two games, and I think he’s capable of keeping it up for the next few weeks. This might be your last chance to get him on waivers.
Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers
I like Samuel, but the problem is that it’s hard to trust any wide receiver on the 49ers. From week to week you never know which player is going to get the targets. That said, Samuel has upside, and he needs to be owned.
Demarcus Robinson/Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs
Last week I told you all that Robinson was going to be the guy to own and as we saw he was phenomenal against the Raiders. I do like Hardman as well because he’s a supreme young talent. If by any miracle either of these guys is available, you must pick them up ASAP!
Chris Conley, Jacksonville Jaguars
Conley is the third receiver on the Jaguars, but he’s proven to be a reliable target over the first two games. I kind of like him and think that he might be worth a dollar or two on waivers.
Preston Williams, Miami Dolphins
Williams is the only Dolphin that I want to own. The team has given up, but Williams is a rookie, so he’s trying to make an impact.
Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers
Donte Moncrief is garbage and will lose his job shortly. Johnson has excellent hands and runs crisp routes. He will soon own an essential role in the Steelers offense–the only question is when.
Devin Smith, Dallas Cowboys
Smith will replace Michael Gallup for the next 2 to 4 weeks so if you’re desperate for a receiver he will have the opportunity.
James Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers
I doubt that Washington is available in your league, but if he is, he is a must-add. Washington played with Mason Rudolph at Oklahoma State, so it goes to reason that he will get an uptick in opportunity because of their connection.
Marquise Goodwin, San Francisco 49ers
Goodwin appeared in the box score this week and even scored a touchdown. I can’t guarantee that will happen every week, but I do know that he used to be Jimmy G’s favorite target and he might still be once again.
Tight Ends
Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks
Dissly had an amazing game against the Steelers, but I’m not sure that we can count on two touchdowns every week from him. Don’t pay for last week stats.
Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Rams
Tyler Higbee is injured, and there’s a chance he might not play in Week 2. If this is the case, Everett will start, and he does play on a high scoring offense.
Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
With Michael Gallup out, Jason Witten should have a few more opportunities over the coming weeks. The Cowboys play the hapless Dolphins this week so Witten might be worth a shot.
Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals
Eifert can barely stay healthy, but as of this minute, he is active and could be productive. He certainly is someone Andy Dalton looks for in the red zone.
