2019 Fantasy Baseball: Weekend Recap (April 15)

Since you were probably busy watching The Masters, this Weekend Recap from Senior Fantasy Baseball Expert Adam Ronis helps you catch up on the latest!

In drafts, there were questions for some as to whether German Marquez was worth the early pick since he pitches half his games in Coors Field. There was no doubt he would thrive on the road in San Francisco against a weak offense, and he did.

The Rockies right-hander threw a one-hitter, walked none and struck out nine in a 4-0 win. He retired the first 15 before hitting Kevin Pillar. He allowed a one-out hit to Evan Longoria in the eighth to lose the no-hitter. He has a 2.00 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and a 25:6 K:BB ratio in 27 innings. Marquez had a 2.61 ERA and 1.00 WHIP after the All-Star break last season.

The Braves placed pitcher Arodys Vizcaino on the IL retroactive to April 11 with right shoulder inflammation. A.J. Minter should get most of the save chances, and he should be owned in all leagues.

Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom was shaky for his second straight outing, allowing three runs, five hits, four walks and struck out nine over five innings. After 26 consecutive quality starts, he hasn’t had one in the last two.

After a slow start to the season, Braves third baseman Josh Donaldson is heating up. He homered Sunday for the second straight game, going 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs and two walks. He has a slash line of .264/.400/.472.

Cardinals outfielder Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-5 with a two home runs and four RBIs Sunday. He’s hitting .275 with five home runs and 11 RBIs.

Gerrit Cole allowed a leadoff homer to Mitch Haniger, but went six innings and allowed four hits, one walk, two runs and struck out 11 for the Astros in a win over the Mariners. He has a 3.24 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 36:6 K:BB ratio in 25 innings. Closer Roberto Osuna picked up his seventh save. He has allowed one run on two hits with nine strikeouts in 8.1 innings.

Twins pitcher Jose Berrios continued his strong start to the year, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing four hits, one walk, two runs and struck out seven to get a win over the Tigers. He is 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA and a 28:5 K:BB ratio.

Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is having a nice bounce-back season. He went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and stolen base Sunday. He has a slash line of .414/.433/.655 with eight runs, three home runs, 12 RBIs and four stolen bases.

Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson hit his sixth homer Sunday. Teammate Cody Bellinger went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs after hitting his ninth homer Saturday. He has a slash line of .424/.500/.909 with nine home runs and 22 RBIs.

Corey Kluber tends to struggle in April, and it’s no different this season. The Indians pitcher allowed a career-high five walks and six hits, and six runs in 2.2 innings. He is 1-2 with a 6.16 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and a 21:10 K:BB ratio in 19 innings.

Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer took a no-decision against the Pirates, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. He is 1-2 with a 3.33 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 35:5 K:BB ratio.

Indians outfielder Leonys Martin stayed hot over the weekend, including 3-for-4 with a home run Sunday. He had nine over the last six games with three being home runs.

Phillies shortstop Jean Segura hit a two-run homer in the top of the 14th inning to give the Phillies a 3-1 win over the Marlins. He went 2-for-5 with two walks and is batting .317 with 12 runs, one home run, and nine RBIs.

Padres rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. went 2-for-4 with his fifth homer of the season. The 20-year-old has a slash line of .268/.355/.589 with nine runs and 11 RBIs.

After struggling in two straight appearances, Rangers closer Jose Leclerc allowed a single and struck out the other three he faced for his third save of the season.

Just when it appeared Blake Parker might have a path to be the Twins closer, he stumbled Sunday. Parker allowed one hit and two walks to load the bases and needed 29 pitches. He was pulled, and Trevor Hildenberger came in to strike out two and get the save. Taylor Rogers pitched a scoreless eighth and Trevor May allowed two runs while getting one out in the seventh. It still looks like a committee.
