Christian Yelich is showing last season’s MVP was no fluke. The Brewers fell in some drafts because he had a ridiculous hot streak in the second half and the power was likely to drop with a lack of fly balls, but when I had the chance to pick third overall, I took Yelich due to his high floor.
Yelich won Sunday’s game with a two-run double off closer Jordan Hicks and homered for the fourth straight game. He has a slash line of .500/.667/1.583 with six runs, four home runs, and eight RBIs.
Rockies first baseman Daniel Murphy is going to miss time with a fractured left index finger. He is going to meet a hand specialist to see if he’s dealing with mallet finger and they need to see if there’s ligament damage. Ryan McMahon, Garrett Hampson, and Mark Reynolds will also see more playing time.
The debut of hyped pitcher Chris Paddack lived up to the billing. The Padres right-hander went five innings and allowed two hits, one walk and struck out seven in a no-decision.
Corbin Burnes flashed his upside against the Cardinals Sunday. While he allowed three home runs, he struck out 12 in five innings and should be owned in all leagues.
Trea Turner hit two home runs Sunday, including a walk-off in the ninth as the Nationals avoided the sweep against the Mets. He also stole his fourth base of the season.
Trevor Williams threw six scoreless innings and allowed three hits, no walks and struck out six in a win over the Reds.
Michael Pineda made his first start since July 2017 after he had Tommy John surgery and the Twins limited him. Pineda threw four scoreless innings and allowed one hit, one walk and struck out five, needing only 40 pitches. The Twins will slowly build up the pitches, but there’s upside here.
While the Marlins offense is a weakness, they have some good pitchers, and Sandy Alcantara is one of them, and it was on display Sunday. He pitched eight scoreless innings and allowed four hits, no walks and struck out six in a win over the Rockies. Wei-Yin Chen started the ninth inning and after allowing a hit and walk, was removed for Sergio Romo, who retired the side for the save.
Yonny Chirinos allowed one run on two hits in seven innings and struck out six in a win over the Astros.
Bryce Harper hit his second homer with the Phillies in a 5-1 win over the Braves Sunday night.
Cody Bellinger is off to a sizzling start. He went 3-for-5 with his fourth homer Sunday. He is batting .500 with four home runs and eight RBIs.
Mariners closer Hunter Strickland was placed on the Injured List with a Grade 2 right lat strain. He will miss at least a couple of months. Cory Gearrin entered the ninth inning with a 10-7 lead Sunday and walked the bases loaded before being pulled. Chasen Bradford came in and issued a walk before getting a strikeout and grounder to end the game and get the save. Anthony Swarzak, who will come off the IL this week, could get a shot to close.
Walker Buehler didn’t pitch much in the spring, and the rust showed. He allowed five hits and five runs while walking one and didn’t get a strikeout in three innings against the Diamondbacks. He will make his next start in Coors Field.

Shane Bieber won’t make his first start of the season until later in the week due to off days. He pitched two relief innings Sunday. Brewers reliever Jeremy Jeffress pitched in an extended spring training game on Saturday. He will pitch in another Tuesday and then possibly begin a rehab assignment. He could get some saves along with Josh Hader for the Brewers.
Khris Davis hit his fourth homer Sunday and is on his way to another 40-homer season.
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said he wouldn’t name a closer for a while. Mychal Givens pitched the eighth inning of games on Saturday and Sunday.
Carlos Correa made his season debut Sunday after missing the first three games due to a neck injury.
Frankie Montas was impressive in his season debut getting a win over the Angels. The A’s pitcher went six innings and allowed three hits, no walks and struck out six while allowing one run. He added a splitter to his arsenal.
A.J. Pollock got off to a good start with the Dodgers, going 7-for-17 with four runs and six RBIs.
