Well, we stay in the incredible State of Hawaii even though we jump from Maui to Oahu (Honolulu).  If you recall correctly, the Sony Open had a couple of “non-golf” highlights last year with the “accidental” incoming missile threat and the Golf Channel cameramen/women walking out.  Although the TV coverage wasn’t the best, the golf was still entertaining and Patton Kizzire beat James Hahn in a playoff.

You won’t have the advantage of a guaranteed 6 out of 6 on the weekend this week, nor will it be that easy to get 5 out of 6.  But, hopefully we can help with that.

We are at the Wailalae CC.  The course is a Par 70 (as opposed to 73 last week) with narrow fairways and Bermuda greens.  Now, I say “narrow” with  a grain of salt since the rough is not as penalizing as is typical on tour and no where close to a major.

Guys that like this course (Course Horse):   Justin Thomas & Gary Woodland  / Honorable Mention:  Charles Howell III (CH3) & Jimmy Walker (even though Jimmy has had some struggles in recent years)

$9000+ :  JT, DeChambeau, Woodland & Leisman (think they will be the “chalk” after last week)

My favorites (outside of the “chalk”):  Cameron Champ, Hideki Matsuyama, Grillo & Casey

    $8000 – $9000:  Kuchar, Scott & CH3 (likely the “chalk”)

My favorites:  Snedeker (Snedeker-Snedeker….had to do it!), Russell Knox & Si Woo Kim

$7000 – $7900 (I think this is the “sweet spot”):   Kizzire, Poulter (I know…you’re shocked), Pat Perez, Keegan Bradley, Kevin Tway, Sungjae Im, Putnam, Cink, Stricker and Dahmen.

    • Keegan Bradley is playing really well
    • Poulter is just a “honey badger”
    • Cink & Stricker are two “old guys” that still have game
    • Sungjae Im…..anyone that followed me in the Fall knows I love this guys game

@ or Under $7000:  Garnett, Seth Reeves, Meritt & Keith Mitchell

    • Keith Mitchell plays well on Bermuda greens (or at least putts well)

LONGSHOTS:  Shugo Imahira (players from Japan will come to Hawaii to play…this guy is a wildcard but could be a cut-maker that frees up a lot of $$$ for you, Jhonson Wagner, Kramer Hickok and Davis Love III (another “old guy” with game).

Again, you need guys to make the cut so we don’t want to mess around with guys in the $7K and below range to fill any more that 1 guy in our lineups. However, there is enough in the “sweet spot” down that may allow you to build a true “stars and scrubs” lineup.  The “safest” to make the cut in that range to me are:  Kizzire, Poulter, Bradley, Perez, Tway, Im, Mitchell, Merritt and even Cink and Stricker.

GOOD LUCK!  Hite me up with questions on here or come over to Slack Chat and let’s get some real discussion going.  I’m going to attempt to link to this Forum on that site as well.
