Fantasy Football: Week 14 Start ‘Em & Sit ‘Em

Senior Fantasy Football Expert Mark Deming prepares you for the first week of the Fantasy Football postseason with his top starts and sits!

Good luck in a crucial Week 14. Always go with your gut. Pay attention to the data but also don’t be afraid to make a few bold calls, they can be the difference makers. Below are some recommended start and sits.

START ‘EM

QB Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

Say what you want about Prescott, about his contract, and the Cowboys’ failures, but Prescott continues to put up substantial fantasy numbers. If you’ve ridden Dak as your QB1 this year, I’d recommend the ride or die approach. Only Lamar Jackson ( 30.1 PPG) has averaged more fantasy points than Prescott’s 26.1 PPG in FFWC scoring.

QB Mitchell Tribisky, Chicago Bears

A popular second QB pick during the summer, Trubisky was cut in most leagues. The Bears’ offense has been a disaster based on the expectations heading into the 2019 season. However, the Bears have been clicking lately, and Tribisky is coming off his best performance of the year. He could surprise on Thursday Night Football against Dallas.

RB Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns

Hunt has scored double-digit fantasy points and averaged 14.07 in the four games since his return from suspension. Baker Mayfield has excellent rapport with Hunt, who is often available for check-down passes in the Browns’ offense. With Andy Dalton back at QB for the Bengals, this game could be higher scoring than the current 41 Over/Under.

RB Duke Johnson, Houston Texans

The Texans seem to be peaking at the right time for the fantasy playoffs. Johnson was a high pick during the summer, but has spent many weeks on fantasy owners’ benches due to inconsistency. Johnson is coming off his best game of the year and his 15.8 Week 13 target percentage is data you can’t ignore. I’m rolling the dice on the dynamic Johnson this weekend against Denver.

WR Zach Pascal, Indianapolis Colts

After stinker fantasy games in Week 11 and 12, most owners sat Pascal in Week 13. Of course, he went off to the tune of seven receptions for 109 yards. Pascal looked the part in Week 13, often using his big frame to shield defenders and make challenging receptions. He gets the Bucs in Week 14, the worst team at defending the WR position in the NFL.

WR Robert Woods, Los Angeles Rams

Taking personal time away from football has paid dividends for the Rams and Woods who’s been on fire over a two-game stretch. Woods’ 28% touch percentage in Week 13 was eye opening. Woods has seen 28 targets and produced 269 receiving yards over two weeks. The Seahawks are susceptible to the pass and this game could be high scoring in Los Angeles.

WR Robby Anderson, New York Jets

Keep it simple with Robby Anderson. He gets a prime matchup versus the Dolphins, who are the third-worst team at covering opposing wide receivers in the NFL. Anderson was a fantasy beast in the playoffs last year and maybe this is the time of the year for him to shine.

TE Vance McDonald, Pittsburgh Steelers

Don’t overthink this one. The Cardinals are by far the worst team at defending the TE position. Their 14.65 average to TEs is one of the guarantees in fantasy football this season.

TE Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

Keeps close tabs on the playing status of Rams TE Gerald Everett. The Rams have shown heavy emphasis to the TE position over the last two weeks, and Higbee is in line for many opportunities against Seattle. Seattle’s defense is improving, but their weak against opposing tight ends, and this game could be higher scoring than the current 47 Over/Under.

SIT ‘EM

QB Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray

I’m a big fan of Murray and his unique skill set that can challenge NFL defenses. That being said, the Cardinals looked flat last week and Murray could be experiencing a rookie wall. I’m not messing with Pittsburgh’s defense, and am sitting Murray on my teams this weekend. The Steelers are allowing 13.65 PPG to QBs, sixth-best in the league.

RB Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers

Mostert is a talented player who has excellent acceleration and runs with a physical style of play. Many owners are probably jonesing to get him into their lineups after his big week against the Ravens. The Saints defend the run well, and currently rank fourth-best at defending opposing running backs.

RB Kenyan Drake, Arizona Cardinals

As noted above, the Cards seem burnt out and the Steelers’ defense is emerging. The Steelers are only allowing only 14.71 PPG to RBs, sixth-best in the NFL.

WR Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings

I’m struggling with the decision to play Thielen this weekend myself. Most NFL players that miss time with hamstring injuries don’t kill it in their first game back. The matchup vs the Lions is hard to resist but make sure you follow all the news and only play Thielen if he’s full speed, if not save him for next week.

TE Jared Cook, New Orleans Saints

Cook was the main target in Week 13 with an amazing 20.7 target percentage. It’s hard to sit players in a Drew Brees offense and playing in a dome but the 49ers are number one in the NFL vs the TE position. I’m not messing with their 4.01 average PPG to TEs in Week 14.
