Fantasy Football: Week 7 Deep Sleepers

Senior Fantasy Football Expert Adam Ronis examines a few deep sleepers you may want to consider playing in Week 7!

QB Joe Flacco vs. NO

Flacco has played well this season despite quiet games the last two weeks. Flacco struggled against a good Browns defense in Week 5 and he didn’t need to do much against a Titans team that was obliterated by the Ravens defense. Flacco is set up for a good week. The Saints have struggled to stop quarterbacks, allowing the third most Fantasy points to the position even with a bye week. The Saints were better the last two games, but it was Eli Manning and Alex Smith. The Saints have allowed 11 passing touchdowns and intercepted two passes in five games. Quarterbacks have completed 71 percent of passes and they don’t put much pressure on quarterbacks.  The Saints have been stout against the run and Flacco will need to pass often.

RB Duke Johnson @ TB

Johnson needs the ball more. I had Johnson selected here even before the trade of Carlos Hyde to Jacksonville. Listing Nick Chubb here is too easy. Get him in your lineups this week and he will be chalk in DFS. Johnson should have been featured more weeks ago. The Browns are really thin at wide receiver and it made sense to have Johnson run more in the slot and it will happen more, especially with Hyde gone. Johnson had five targets last week, catching four for 73 yards. Johnson is in a position to get 4-7 catches per week. Johnson had six touches for 109 total yards last week and should see 8-12 touches per game the rest of the way.

RB Raheem Mostert vs. LAR

It’s a tough week to dig deep at running back. Mostert was a big surprise in Week 6 as he surpassed Alfred Morris, who played one snap against the Packers. Mostert had 12 carries for 87 yards and six carries in the first five games. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert isn’t a lock to have the same role going forward, so there is some risk. The Rams haven’t been great against the run, allowing an average of 4.8 yards per carry. A few teams have abandoned the run while playing from behind, but the Seahawks running backs piled up 184 rushing yards in Week 5 and the Rams are playing their third consecutive road game.

WR Willie Snead vs. NO

Snead has quietly had a good season in PPR formats. In five of six games, he has reached double-digit points in PPR formats. He has at least seven targets in three straight games, posting 11.6, 10.5 and 13 points the last three games. Snead may be behind Michael Crabtree and John Brown, but Snead has seen 18 percent of the target share the last three games. The Saints have allowed the most Fantasy points to wide receivers, including ten touchdowns and four to slot receiver where Snead plays. It’s also a revenge game for Snead if you like that narrative.

WR Damion Ratley @ TB

The Browns are extremely thin at wide receiver. It’s one of the reasons Antonio Callaway continues to get a lot of targets despite not playing well. Ratley played 88 percent of the snaps and caught six of eight targets last week against the Chargers. Ratley gets one of the best matchups against the Buccaneers, who have allowed ten touchdowns in five games to wide receivers and 356 passing yards per game.

TE Charles Clay @ IND

I didn’t expect to have a Bills player here at any point, but tight end is very thin and when you dig deep it can get ugly. The Bills will start Derek Anderson this week and the veteran did throw to the tight end when he was with the Panthers. Clay hasn’t done much, but Josh Allen didn’t look for him as he looked to run often. The Colts have allowed the fifth most Fantasy points to tight ends. The Jets barely throw to tight ends and they produced four catches for 69 yards with a touchdown against the Colts last week.
