Dr. Roto breaks down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ close win over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football before previewing Week 2’s Fantasy Football action!
Cam Newton had a pretty solid outing but Jameis Winston was just a bit better. Newton had a costly fumble and Winston was able to play a turnover-free game, which is why the Bucs edged out the Panthers with a 20-14 victory.
The Panthers have nobody to blame but themselves as they had an opportunity at the very end of the game to score a touchdown to win. Christian McCaffrey came up inches short on a 4th and 2 play with just over a minute to play in regulation. Newton was not given the ball on that pivotal play and some are wondering if head coach Ron Rivera trusts his signal caller enough to win games in clutch situation. Newton did throw for over 300 yards but he failed to do anything with his legs and did not have a single passing touchdown.
The Buccaneers move to 1-1 while the Panthers fall to 0-2 in the NFC South. This will be a tough hole for Carolina to climb out of but it’s very possible as D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel and Greg Olsen all emerged as solid pass-catchers in this game. As for the Bucs, the running game has been a huge surprise. Last week, Ronald Jones had a great game, but this week it was all Peyton Barber. That said, Chris Godwin had a monster game, and many are expecting much more from the WR2 on the Bucs. Mike Evans underperformed for the second straight week and his owners are certainly worried that Godwin is becoming the new top option for Winston. Meanwhile, training camp standout O.J. Howard put up a bagel in the Fantasy points column. His owners will also be worrying about the chemistry Winston has with his tight end.
This was a very exciting, while also sloppy, first game of Week 2. Dr. Roto previews the rest of the action coming on Sunday and Monday in today’s podcast! Listen up!
