Get ready to spend some FAAB money this weekend. A wave must-have call-up prospects got the call up the last few days, and they will be highly pursued on the waiver wire.
Keston Hiura, Oscar Mercado and Nicky Lopez got the call to the majors in the last two days. Hiura is the top one to target, and he should be added in all leagues.
Keston Hiura
Huira, the Brewers second baseman, didn’t have a clear path to playing time with the Brewers, especially after the team brought back Mike Moustakas. Early reports indicate Travis Shaw could be placed on the injured list with an injured wrist or be demoted to Triple-A. Shaw has struggled to a .163/.266/.281 line with 11 runs, four home runs, and eight RBIs. He has a 32.5 percent strikeout rate.
Either way, Hiura was brought up to play, and he has a great hit tool. Hiura, 22, was crushing at Triple-A with a line of .333/.408/.698 with 11 home runs and four steals through 37 games. Between High-A and Double-A last season, Hiura had a .293/.357/.464 line. He was the ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft. There are concerns about Hiura’s defense, but the Brewers were already playing Mike Moustakas there, and he was learning the position. Moustakas will move back to third base.

Oscar Mercado
Mercado should get a lot of playing time for the Indians, who have struggled offensively and aren’t getting a lot of production from the outfield. Mercado, 24, is in the lineup Tuesday batting sixth. He has some power and good speed. He had a line of .294/.396/.496 with four home runs and 14 stolen bases in 30 games at Triple-A. Steals are challenging to find on the waiver wire, and Mercado can help in the category.
Nicky Lopez
Lopez, 24, is getting the call for the Royals. The infielder will play second base, and Whit Merrifield will move to the outfield. Lopez was batting .353 with a .457 on-base percentage, three home runs, and nine stolen bases in 31 games at Triple-A. He barely swings and misses with just five strikeouts and 20 walks in 138 plate appearances. The Royals also believe his athleticism will help improve the defense.

RECAP
As with all prospects, these guys need to hit to stay in the majors. Carter Kieboom was sent down after struggling, although his poor defense didn’t help and Nate Lowe was with the Rays briefly. It doesn’t mean the new wave won’t hit. Be smart with your money, but don’t be conservative because some prospects already failed. These are just the latest wave of must-have call-up prospects.
Hiura is the top target. Mercado and Lopez will help with stolen bases. It’s going to be a wild weekend in FAAB.
