Week 9 Waiver Wire – Stay Ahead of the Curve by Adding Elijah McGuire

Senior Fantasy Football Expert Adam Ronis pinpoints a few players to target on the waiver wire heading into Week 9 of the NFL season!

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have yet to name a starter as I write this. Jameis Winston was benched in Week 8 after throwing four interceptions. Winston has six touchdowns and ten interceptions in four games. Fitzpatrick has been better than Winston this season. After replacing Winston against the Bengals, Fitzpatrick went 11-for-15 for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Fitzpatrick became the first quarterback history to top 400 yards passing in three straight games to open the season. With a lot of weapons in the offense, Fitzpatrick is a good bye-week fill-in if he starts with six teams on bye.

RB Elijah McGuire, New York Jets

McGuire was picked up in some deep formats last week. He’s still available in most leagues since he has yet to play this season. McGuire has been on injured reserve and returned to practice last week. McGuire is eligible to be activated this week. With Bilal Powell out for the season, McGuire could see double-digit touches behind Isaiah Crowell, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see McGuire emerge as the primary back late in the season.

RB Josh Adams, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are going to play a few running backs. It’s been that way under Doug Pederson, but Adams is rising. Adams had nine carries for 61 yards and caught an 8-yard pass in Week 8 against the Jaguars. Corey Clement had five touches for five yards, and Wendell Smallwood had ten touches for 66 yards and a touchdown. Adams is someone to consider in deeper formats to see if his role continues to increase.

WR D.J. Moore, Carolina Panthers

The Panthers are finally starting to unleash Moore, who was a rising draft pick in high stakes leagues leading up to the season. He was dropped in leagues that weren’t deep due to his lack of production. Moore got more playing time with Torrey Smith out with injury, playing 46 of 65 snaps against a good Ravens defense. He had 22.2 percent of the target share. Moore had a season-high six targets and caught five passes for 90 yards and rushed twice for 39 yards. Moore has at least five targets in three straight games.

WR DeVante Parker, Miami Dolphins

Parker has been invisible most of the season. He missed time due to injuries, and Adam Gase seemed reluctant to play him as trade rumors swirl involving Parker. Gase had little choice but to play Parker last week with the Dolphins wide receivers slammed by injuries. Parker had nine targets and caught six passes for 134 yards. Parker played all of the snaps, and he will play a significant role with Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson injured.

WR Keke Coutee, Houston Texans

Coutee is dealing with a hamstring injury and his status for Week 9 is unclear. The Texans have a bye in Week 10, and it’s possible Coutee doesn’t return until Week 11. Either way, he will be valuable when he’s back. Will Fuller is out for the season with a torn ACL and Coutee will see a lot of targets. He had 22 percent of the target share when he played. Coutee had 15 targets in his first game of the season in Week 4. He had 27 targets in his first three full games, and Coutee doesn’t have much competition for targets outside of DeAndre Hopkins.

TE Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts

I was amazed to see Doyle only owned in 25-percent of Yahoo Leagues. He missed a lot of time as he was hurt from Weeks 3-7, but he returned in Week 8 against the Raiders and was clearly a big part of the offense even with Eric Ebron playing well in his absence. Doyle played 57 of 78 snaps, while Ebron played 17. Doyle had seven targets, catching six passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. While Doyle is on bye in Week 9, he should be owned in all formats.
