These players don’t have to be benched. Each team is different and league context matters. The matchups are more difficult than usual and if possible, seeking a better start is recommended.
QB Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers at Rams
It’s difficult to sit Rivers after the way he’s played the first two games. He has 680 passing yards, six touchdowns, and no interceptions through two games, but they were against two lousy pass defenses with the Bills and Chiefs. The matchup is one of the more difficult ones in the NFL against the Rams, who have allowed the fewest Fantasy points to quarterbacks. The Rams have faced the Raiders and Cardinals and allowed 393 passing yards, no touchdowns and intercepted four passes. The Chargers offense is better than those teams, but Rivers isn’t in a great spot.

RB Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans at Jaguars
Henry is dependent on the score of the game. When the Titans played from behind in Week 1, Dion Lewis received most of the snaps. When the team is ahead, Henry will be on the field more. The Titans are likely to be playing from behind against the Jaguars even if Marcus Mariota plays and the offensive line is banged up. Since Henry isn’t involved in the passing game, he’s touchdown dependent, and the odds are slim against the Jaguars.
RB Adrian Peterson, Washington Redskins vs. Packers
Peterson is another running back dependent on the game score. He received 28 touches in Week 1 with the Redskins blowing out the Cardinals. Last week, the Redskins played from behind, and in that situation, Chris Thompson is going to play more. Peterson didn’t get the volume with 11 carries for 20 yards and three catches for 30 yards. The Packers have allowed 169 rushing yards on 35 carries to running backs and no touchdowns. While Peterson always has a shot to score, this is a difficult matchup.
WR Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans at Jaguars
Davis has 20 targets through two games, resulting in six catches for 62 yards and five catches for 55 yards. The issue this week is the daunting matchup against a staunch Jaguars secondary. Davis will see a lot of Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye. Chris Hogan scored two touchdowns against the Jaguars last week. The difference is Hogan had Tom Brady throwing him the football, while Davis will have Marcus Mariota or Blaine Gabbert.
WR Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers at Redskins
Cobb had a big Week 1 with nine catches for 142 yards and a touchdown on ten targets. He had a tougher time against the Vikings last week with four catches for 30 yards on six targets. There are several targets in this offense with Davante Adams, Jimmy Graham, and Geronimo Allison and Cobb had the least of the group last week. It could happen again this week against the Redskins, who had an easy matchup in Week 1 against the Cardinals and limited the Colts last week. The Redskins have allowed the third-fewest Fantasy points to wide receivers, and Cobb will see a lot of slot cornerback Fabian Moreau, who has allowed three catches.
TE Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals at Panthers
Eifert played 64 percent of the snaps last week. He did draw a pass interference in the end zone to set up the touchdown. Eifert is playing most of the red zone snaps and in passing situations, but he’s yet to have an impact game. He caught all three targets for 44 yards in Week 1 and two for 23 yards on four targets last week. The other tight ends are involved, too. C.J. Uzomah has five targets, and Tyler Kroft has three. Through two weeks, Eifert has played 54.5 percent of the snaps, and it limits what he can do.
