Week 5 DFS: Tight End Report

Last week, Cole Kmet (7/85/2) and Mark Andrews (5/80/2) delivered impact games at tight end, moving them to third (49.00) and fifth (48.00) in tight end fantasy scoring in PPR formats. Thirteen players tight ends scored between 10.00 and 15.50 fantasy points. On the year, there have been only two other outcomes (Week 2 ~ T.J. Hockenson – 7/66/2 and Week 3 ~ Sam LaPorta – 8/84/1) higher than 20.00 fantasy points.

Here are the seven tight ends averaging more than 10.00 fantasy points in 2023:

  • T.J. Hockenson (56.30)
  • Sam LaPorta (52.20)
  • Cole Kmet (49.00)
  • Evan Engram (48.20)
  • Mark Andrews (48.00 – one missed game)
  • Hunter Henry (46.60)
  • Travis Kelce (44.50 – one missed game)

Also, here are the top plays this week via the Week 5 DFS: Tight End Report. Also, check out the Week 4 DFS: QB Report and RB Report.

Top Tier Options

Travis Kelce, KC (DK – $7,600/FD – $8,789)

At DraftKings and FanDuel, Kelce continued to have a tier to himself in salary while not producing any games (4/26/1, 7/69/1, and 6/60) to support his cost. The Chiefs had him on the field for a season-high 79% of their snaps in Week 4 (64% and 61% over the previous two games). Kelce continues to gain short yards per catch (9.1 – 12.2 in 2022) while averaging 8.7 targets (8.9 in 2022). When at his best last year, he gained more than 100 yards in five starts with a floor of seven catches in nine of his 20 games played.

Minnesota played well against tight ends in three matchups (TB – 2/19, PHI – 6/22, and CAR – 1/7), but the Chargers (8/34/2) beat them for two scores by their second tight end (Donald Parham – 2/4/2). Overall, tight ends are gaining 4.8 yards per catch on five targets per game. The Vikings finished 11th in tight end defense (65/796/7 – 12.3 yards per catch).

Patrick Mahomes hasn’t hit his stride, partly due to his best weapon not being in form early in the year due to a knee issue. The Vikings’ defense will be on the field for many plays this week, giving Kelce his first chance in 2023 to deliver more than 100 yards receiving and double-digit catches. With a touchdown added to the equation, he’ll be in range to support his high price point. I sense a big week, but it will take some maneuvering to finish off the rest of the starting lineup, especially if paired with Mahomes…

Week 5 NFL Player Props

Week 4 was an interesting one from a prop betting perspective. After starting the season 10-4, last week was the first time this season that we didn’t hit over 50% of our prop bets. Fortunately, since we tripled up on the Justin Fields over, our 3-4 Week 4 record doesn’t tell the full story; We actually profited cash for a third consecutive week. Just about a quarter of the way through the regular season, we are now 13-8 (+6.9 units).

After a surprising first few weeks to the season where studs weren’t performing and there were some unfamiliar names leading certain position groups, things are finally beginning to shake out as one would expect. Justin Herbert has been the top quarterback, Christian McCaffrey has been the top running back, Justin Jefferson has been the top wideout, and T.J. Hockenson has been the top tight end (Travis Kelce missed the season opener but is averaging more points per game than Hock). The cream always rises to the top.

Fantasy football owners definitely have an edge when it comes to prop betting because we are so in tune with individual player performances. As always, remember to odds shop at your different sportsbooks to find the best values for the prop bets listed below. Now, let’s get down to business and find the best Week 5 NFL Player Props and continue our trend of profitable NFL weekends.

Josh Allen OVER 258.5 Passing Yards (-115)

After a disappointing season-opening performance against the New York Jets in which Allen turned the ball over four times in an upset loss, Buffalo’s signal-caller has turned it around and has been the QB1 over the last three weeks. Over that span, Allen has racked up 812 passing yards (270.7 per game) while going 72-for-94 (76.6% completion percentage) and throwing eight touchdowns and one interception.

He has risen to the top of the MVP race in large part due to his dominant performance in the Bills’ Week 4 thrashing of the Miami Dolphins in which he tallied 320 passing yards and four touchdowns, while also running one into the end zone. Allen has eclipsed this line in two of his previous three outings and faces a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that ranks 22nd in pass defense.

Also, the Bills are averaging 6.1 yards per play this season, which bodes well for Allen in this London-based contest. Allen doesn’t have a particularly good history against the Jaguars. But one of his previous two games came against them back in 2018 when they had an elite defense. Back in 2021, he surpassed this line against Jacksonville. Look for Allen to continue his MVP campaign…

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 5

Last week’s game offered a lot for fantasy football fans. And the Lions/Packers game mostly lived up to the hype. That won’t necessarily be the case in Week 4. The winless Chicago Bears travel to the nation’s capital to face the 2-2 Washington Commanders. FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 5 breaks down this week’s NFC slugfest.

The Bears finally showed some life last week. However, a defensive collapse in the second half led to another loss for Matt Eberflus’s club. Chicago is now one of only two winless clubs in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Ron Rivera’s Washington squad dropped their second consecutive game after opening the season 2-0. However, the Commanders had a good showing, losing 34-31 in Philadelphia.

This is a pivotal game for both teams. Eberflus is feeling the pressure to get a win. Also, the Commanders need to take advantage of an easy schedule to break a two-game losing streak and remain in playoff contention.

Washington opened as 4.5-point favorites before some early action dropped that to -3.5. The over/under rose to 44.5.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Chicago Bears 21 21 13 16 22
Washington Commanders 20 20 17 22 17

The numbers show these teams are quite evenly matched. Their offenses rank back-to-back overall and are separated by just 5o yards. However, Washington has scored 20-plus points in three of four games and twice gone over 30.

Meanwhile, Chicago had three lackluster showings before finally showing some life against a hapless Denver defense on Sunday. For the Bears to have a shot, they’ll need some of Justin Fields’s Week 4 magic to carry over.

And it very well could. Both teams are bottom-10 in terms of allowing fantasy points to quarterbacks. That invites some solid fantasy, daily, and DFS scoring potential.

Chicago Offense

Justin Fields had the best passing day of his career last week. Fields posted a 132.7 QB Rating and threw for a career-high 335 yards and four TDs. Fields’s accuracy has improved in 2023 but his rushing production has plummeted. After averaging 76 rushing yards per game last year, Fields is down to 33.5 in 2023.

This week’s matchup appears fine for the passing game. Washington has surrendered the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing passers. Also, that includes 131 yards on the ground- third-most through four games.

After hearing that Roschon Johnson would get an opportunity to be Chicago’s RB1, Khalil Herbert played a season-high 77.8%…

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 5

Injuries piled up in Week 4. Also, the dreaded bye weeks have arrived to complicate matters. A good rule of thumb is that we know who teams are after four games. That can help us make better Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 5 picks.

It’s not too late to turn around a slow start. However, time is running out. Let’s review FullTime Fantasy‘s top fantasy football waiver wire Week 5 options that can help you win this week and moving forward.

FAAB denotes Free Agent Acquisition Budget

Week 5 Byes: Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jameson Wiliams (WR) Detroit Lions (13% FAAB) – He’s Baa-aaack! The NFL reduced Williams’s suspension from six games to four. That puts the dynamic wideout in line to suit up this week against the Panthers. However, it’s unknown how ‘game-ready’ William is, or how many snaps he could play. However, Williams should emerge as Detroit’s No. 2 wideout, making him worth a solid waiver wire bid now. Teammate Jayden Reed (6%FAAB) has also locked up the slot role, making him worth a decent bid.

Romeo Doubs (WR) Green Bay Packers (10% FAAB) – The return of Christian Watson didn’t affect Doubs’s momentum. In fact, Doubs enters Week 5 as a top-20 fantasy wideout. Yet, he’s still available in a large percentage of fantasy leagues. Like I said in the intro, teams are who they are after four games. If that holds true, Jordan Love is a viable…
