Week 5 DFS: Tight End Report

Last week, Cole Kmet (7/85/2) and Mark Andrews (5/80/2) delivered impact games at tight end, moving them to third (49.00) and fifth (48.00) in tight end fantasy scoring in PPR formats. Thirteen players tight ends scored between 10.00 and 15.50 fantasy points. On the year, there have been only two other outcomes (Week 2 ~ T.J. Hockenson – 7/66/2 and Week 3 ~ Sam LaPorta – 8/84/1) higher than 20.00 fantasy points.

Here are the seven tight ends averaging more than 10.00 fantasy points in 2023:

  • T.J. Hockenson (56.30)
  • Sam LaPorta (52.20)
  • Cole Kmet (49.00)
  • Evan Engram (48.20)
  • Mark Andrews (48.00 – one missed game)
  • Hunter Henry (46.60)
  • Travis Kelce (44.50 – one missed game)

Also, here are the top plays this week via the Week 5 DFS: Tight End Report. Also, check out the Week 4 DFS: QB Report and RB Report.

Top Tier Options

Travis Kelce, KC (DK – $7,600/FD – $8,789)

At DraftKings and FanDuel, Kelce continued to have a tier to himself in salary while not producing any games (4/26/1, 7/69/1, and 6/60) to support his cost. The Chiefs had him on the field for a season-high 79% of their snaps in Week 4 (64% and 61% over the previous two games). Kelce continues to gain short yards per catch (9.1 – 12.2 in 2022) while averaging 8.7 targets (8.9 in 2022). When at his best last year, he gained more than 100 yards in five starts with a floor of seven catches in nine of his 20 games played.

Minnesota played well against tight ends in three matchups (TB – 2/19, PHI – 6/22, and CAR – 1/7), but the Chargers (8/34/2) beat them for two scores by their second tight end (Donald Parham – 2/4/2). Overall, tight ends are gaining 4.8 yards per catch on five targets per game. The Vikings finished 11th in tight end defense (65/796/7 – 12.3 yards per catch).

Patrick Mahomes hasn’t hit his stride, partly due to his best weapon not being in form early in the year due to a knee issue. The Vikings’ defense will be on the field for many plays this week, giving Kelce his first chance in 2023 to deliver more than 100 yards receiving and double-digit catches. With a touchdown added to the equation, he’ll be in range to support his high price point. I sense a big week, but it will take some maneuvering to finish off the rest of the starting lineup, especially if paired with Mahomes…

Week 5 DFS: Quarterback Report

Last week, four quarterbacks scored more than 30.00 fantasy points (Josh Allen – 39.70, Justin Fields – 33.25, Anthony Richardson – 32.60, and Lamar Jackson – 31.00). All four QBs have a running component to their skill set. Twelve quarterbacks posted more than 30.00 fantasy points in 2023, with Tua Tagovailoa (33.80 and 31.45) leading the way.

Over four weeks of action, here are the top five scoring quarterbacks this season:

  • Justin Herbert – 107.80
  • Josh Allen – 106.00
  • Kirk Cousins – 99.40
  • Tua Tagovailoa – 98.80
  • Lamar Jackson – 97.70

Let’s break down this week’s field in the FullTime Fantasy Week 5 DFS: Quarterback Report.

Top-Tier Options

Patrick Mahomes, KC (DK – $8,200/FD – $9,000)

Based on his high salary in the DFS market, Mahomes has yet to deliver a winning day over four weeks. He’s averaging two touchdowns, with his best outcome coming in Week 3 (300/3) against the Bears. Only one of his 92 completions gained at least 40 yards (13 in 2022), leading to a career-low 7.0 yards per pass attempt. His top receiver (Travis Kelce) has been limited to 9.1 yards per catch (12.2 in his career). Rashee Rice (13/140/1) is their leading wideout despite being on the field for 36.9% of the Chiefs’ plays.

Minnesota ranks 24th defending quarterbacks (22.36 FPPG), with one disaster showing vs. the Chargers (465/4). Their wide receivers finished with 32 catches for 415 yards and two touchdowns on 39 targets. The Eagles’ wideouts only had eight catches for 160 yards and one touchdown on 11 targets, but they gained 20 yards per catch.

The game total for this matchup is 52, the highest on the main slate on Sunday. Mahomes comes off a down game (203 passing yards with one score and two interceptions) while averaging 35.8 passes (38.1 in 2022 and 38.7 in 2021). His matchup bodes well for an uptick game, especially if Minnesota scores more than 25 points.

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 5

Last week’s game offered a lot for fantasy football fans. And the Lions/Packers game mostly lived up to the hype. That won’t necessarily be the case in Week 4. The winless Chicago Bears travel to the nation’s capital to face the 2-2 Washington Commanders. FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 5 breaks down this week’s NFC slugfest.

The Bears finally showed some life last week. However, a defensive collapse in the second half led to another loss for Matt Eberflus’s club. Chicago is now one of only two winless clubs in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Ron Rivera’s Washington squad dropped their second consecutive game after opening the season 2-0. However, the Commanders had a good showing, losing 34-31 in Philadelphia.

This is a pivotal game for both teams. Eberflus is feeling the pressure to get a win. Also, the Commanders need to take advantage of an easy schedule to break a two-game losing streak and remain in playoff contention.

Washington opened as 4.5-point favorites before some early action dropped that to -3.5. The over/under rose to 44.5.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Chicago Bears 21 21 13 16 22
Washington Commanders 20 20 17 22 17

The numbers show these teams are quite evenly matched. Their offenses rank back-to-back overall and are separated by just 5o yards. However, Washington has scored 20-plus points in three of four games and twice gone over 30.

Meanwhile, Chicago had three lackluster showings before finally showing some life against a hapless Denver defense on Sunday. For the Bears to have a shot, they’ll need some of Justin Fields’s Week 4 magic to carry over.

And it very well could. Both teams are bottom-10 in terms of allowing fantasy points to quarterbacks. That invites some solid fantasy, daily, and DFS scoring potential.

Chicago Offense

Justin Fields had the best passing day of his career last week. Fields posted a 132.7 QB Rating and threw for a career-high 335 yards and four TDs. Fields’s accuracy has improved in 2023 but his rushing production has plummeted. After averaging 76 rushing yards per game last year, Fields is down to 33.5 in 2023.

This week’s matchup appears fine for the passing game. Washington has surrendered the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing passers. Also, that includes 131 yards on the ground- third-most through four games.

After hearing that Roschon Johnson would get an opportunity to be Chicago’s RB1, Khalil Herbert played a season-high 77.8%…

Week 4 DFS: Wide Receiver Report

Keenan Allen (45.95) and Davante Adams (42.20) posted the two impact fantasy point games at wide receiver in Week 3. Adam Thielen (31.50) built on his success in Week 2 (20.40), while Tyreek Hill (9/157/1) and Justin Jefferson (7/149/1) closed out the five scoring in PPR leagues. Seven other wideouts scored more than 20.00 fantasy points. Here’s a look at the top five wide receivers after the three games:

  • Keenan Allen (91.25)
  • Tyreek Hill (90.20)
  • Justin Jefferson (77.80)
  • Davante Adams (75.20)
  • Mike Evans (64.70)

There have been eight wide receiver games with at least 30.00 fantasy points.

Top Tier Options

Justin Jefferson, MIN (DK – $9,600/FD – $9,400)

The most consistent elite wide receiver after three weeks has been Jefferson (9/150, 11/159, and 7/149/1), highlighted by his 38 targets (12, 13, and 13). The Vikings have had him on the field for 97.5% of their 204 plays. He’s gained over 100 yards in 13 of his last 21 starts while having a floor of seven catches in 14 of those games.

The Panthers have the fourth-best defense against wide receivers (31/396/1 on 49 targets). DK Metcalf (6/112) is the only wideout to gain over 100 yards. In Week 1, Carolina faced a Falcons offense that attempted only 18 passes. That led to only three catches for 31 yards by their wide receivers. Last year, the Panthers finished 28th defending wide receivers.

Jefferson is the most explosive ticket on the board each week. Especially if he adds impact touchdowns to his electric production. In addition, the Vikings have averaged 46 passes in 2023. It’s all about finding enough value to fit Jefferson in your DFS lineup.

Tyreek Hill, MIA (DK – $9,200/FD – $9,600)

Over his three starts in 2023, Hill has two difference-maker showings (11/215/2 and 9/157/1) while scoring in each matchup. Last year, he struggled to get open in both games (2/33 and 7/69) against the Bills, one without Tua Tagovailoa behind center. In the postseason in 2021, Hill excelled in the postseason (11/150/1) with Kansas City at home vs. Buffalo.

The Bills rank third in wide receiver defense (24/303/2 on 36 targets), allowing 6.6 yards per pass attempt with 12 sacks (nine in Week 3). Buffalo gave up only three touchdowns over the first three games (@NYJ, LA, and @WAS). In 2022, the Bills were about league average against wideouts (32.38 FPPG).

This matchup for Miami isn’t ideal for Hill based on the…

Week 4 DFS: Tight End Report

Heading into Week 4, there have been 25 touchdowns scored by tight ends. Donald Parham leads the way with three scores despite only having six catches for 32 on seven targets on the season. He’s been on the field for about 50% of the Chargers’ snaps. T.J. Hockenson leads tight ends in targets (28), followed by Sam LaPorta (22).

In Week 3, only LaPorta (22.40) scored more than 20.00 fantasy points in PPR formats, thanks to a 45-yard touchdown. Nine tight ends finished between 10.90 and 19.90 fantasy points. Only two tight ends scored more than 20.00 fantasy points in a week.

Here are the top five tight ends after three weeks:

  • T.J. Hockenson (51.90)
  • Sam LaPorta (42.60)
  • Hunter Henry (37.50)
  • Evan Engram (35.30)
  • Travis Kelce (32.50)

These are the only tight ends averaging more than 10.00 fantasy points per week.

Here are the top plays this week via the Week 4 DFS: Tight End Report. Also, check out the Week 4 DFS: QB Report and RB Report.

Top Tier Options

Travis Kelce, KC (DK – $7,400/FD – $7,800)

After three games, Kelce averaged 16.25 FPPG in PPR formats in PPR formats over his two starts. Last year, his season average was 18.88 fantasy points. That puts him about 14% behind his pace in 2022. The Chiefs had Kelce on the field for 61% of their plays last week due to a blowout game, down from 64% in Week 2. On the positive side, his light workload did make him look swifter versus the Bears. Kelce has done more of his work close to the line of scrimmage (8.6 yards per catch – 12.2 in 2022 and 12.7 in his career before this season). Patrick Mahomes looked his way 8.5 times a game in his two starts.

The Jets fell to 30th in tight end defense (16.97 FPPG) after getting beat by New England’s tight ends in Week 3 (5/108/1). Most of the damage came on a broken play touchdown (58 yards) to the Patriots’ third tight end (Pharaoh Brown – 2/71/1). Tight ends have 16 catches for 169 yards and three touchdowns on 21 targets against New York.

Kelce remains an edge at tight end due to his upside potential. But it does come with a price in the DFS market due to his high salary. He must score 30.00 fantasy points at DraftKings to be viable. That’s an outcome Kelce reached twice in 2022 (33.50 and 35.50). I don’t see the Jets pushing the envelope on the scoreboard, costing Kelce the follow-through needed to be an edge in the daily games in Week 4.

George Kittle, SF (DK – $5,100/FD – $6,300)

Top Tier Options

Christian McCaffrey, SF (DK – $9,200/FD – $9,700

Over the first three games, McCaffrey scored between 22.50 and 25.90 fantasy points in each matchup with PPR scoring. He extended his touchdown streak to 12 games but scored twice in only one contest. In addition, McCaffrey gained more than 100 yards in each of his starts (152, 116, and 119) while averaging 3.7 catches. Last season, he had 108 combined yards with one touchdown and nine catches vs. the Cardinals while playing with Carolina. With San Fran against Arizona in other matchups, McCaffrey gained 185 yards with one score and 10 catches.

The Cardinals sit 25th defending running backs (75/325/1 with 15 catches for 82 yards and three touchdowns on 17 targets). The Cowboys ran the ball well against them in Week 3 (33/185 – 5.6 yards per rush). Their pass rush (11 sacks) has been better than expected out of the gate, and Arizona played from the lead in all three of their games through the third quarter.

McCaffrey is an absolute beast on a path to being the best running back in the game in 2023. The 49ers will ride him hard when needed (100% of their snaps in Week 2) while resting him when playing from a big lead. His floor has been three times his salary, putting him a second touchdown away from 30.00 fantasy points. The second half could be in the hands of Elijah Mitchell on many plays, so McCaffrey will need to get his scoring and yards early in the game. He is rated as the top running back…

Week 4 DFS: Quarterback Report

Last week, four quarterbacks (Justin Herbert – 33.35, Tua Tagovailoa – 31.45, Lamar Jackson – 31.20, and Kirk Cousins – 30.35) scored at least 30.00 fantasy points in four-point passing touchdown leagues. The best-value quarterback in the DFS market was Andy Dalton (27.15). Fifteen QBs scored more than 20.00 fantasy points, three less than in Week 2 (only 10 in Week 1). Here’s a look at the top five quarterbacks after three games:

  • Kirk Cousins (86.45)
  • Justin Herbert (81.75)
  • Tua Tagovailoa (81.00)
  • Patrick Mahomes (76.45)
  • Jordan Love (75.15)

Joe Burrow (34.65 fantasy points – 30th) remains the weak link of the top-tier quarterbacks drafted in 2023. C.J. Stroud (63.80) sits 12th, one notch above Mac Jones (60.70). Four quarterbacks scored at least 20.00 fantasy points each week – Cousins, Herbert, Mahomes, and Love. Daniel Jones has two bust weeks (7.50 and 6.35) vs. the Cowboys and 49ers while booming in Week 2 (34.95) vs. the Cardinals.

Let’s break down this week’s field in the FullTime Fantasy Week 4 DFS: Quarterback Report.

Top-Tier Options

Josh Allen, BUF (DK – $8,200/FD – $9,000)

Three weeks into the 2023 DFS season, Allen is still looking for his first impact game. He’s been the best fantasy quarterback over the past three years, scoring at least 30.00 fantasy points seven times in 2022 (twice vs. the Dolphins – 31.70 and 39.90). The Bills’ offense has a much better structure in the run game over the last two weeks due to the play of James Cook (32/221 with six catches for 50 yards). Surprisingly, Allen is gaining only 6.6 yards per pass attempt, 7.6 in 2022, which was also an issue in 2021 (6.8).

Miami’s defense had massive issues with the Chargers’ run game in Week 1 (40/233/3). Over the next two weeks, they cleaned up this problem (25/88 and 20/69). But New England and Denver haven’t run the ball well in 2023. In addition, Allen’s right arm forces the Dolphins to defend the whole field. The Broncos did have three completions of 25 yards or more in Week 3. Miami has eight sacks with increased pressure on the quarterback this season.

The over/under for this game is 53.5. Also, the echo in my head from a friend of mine is that this game total usually falls on the underside…or was it the over? Either way, Allen has the “due feeling,” and his recent resume vs. the Dolphins suggests four times his salary (or more than 32.00 fantasy points) is well within reach. In addition, the Miami should push the issue on the scoreboard.

Justin Herbert, LAC (DK – $7,800/FD – $8,600)

After a slow passing start in Week 1 (229/1) against Miami, Herbert took advantage of his last two favorable matchups…

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 4

There were some huge performances last week and Week 4 is getting off to a promising start as the Detroit Lions travel to Wisconsin to take on the Green Bay Packers. FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 4 breaks down this week’s NFC North battle.

The Lions had a quiet showing on Sunday but were able to move to 2-1 by topping Atlanta. Detroit is optimistic that both LT Taylor Decker and RB David Montgomery will return for this game. Both would be welcomed additions in fantasy football circles.

Meanwhile, the Packers are also looking at substantial reinforcements. WR Christian Watson and RB Aaron Jones are expected to play. Detroit enters this game as 1.5-point favorites and the over/under has risen to 46.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Detroit Lions 8 7 11 5 12
Green Bay Packers 22 18 23 15 8

Similar to last season, Detroit boasts a potent and balanced offense. The Lions are capable of moving the ball on the ground or through the air quite well. They also protect the quarterback well and avoid turnovers.

However, Detroit tends to be much more potent at home. Also, the Packers have dominated this series at Lambeau, winning 21 of the last 25.

Green Bay’s offense stands out in one key area. Scoring touchdowns. The Packers rank fifth in the NFL in third down conversion rate. Also, they’re top-10 in offense and defense red-zone efficiency.

The Packers opened as slight favorites. However, the line has shifted to Detroit now being favored.

Detroit Offense

Jared Goff posted a 109.3 QB Rating and tossed 23 of his 29 touchdowns at home last season. Goff played well on the road in Week 1 and…

Week 3 DFS: Running Back Report

A late surge in the fourth quarter by Brian Robinson (two touchdowns) pushed him to the top of running back scoring in Week 2, edging out Kyren Williams (28.00), Saquan Barkley (27.20, and D’Andre Swift (27.10). Six other running backs scored more than 20.00 fantasy points. Here are the top five back in scoring in PPR leagues after two games:

  • Christian McCaffrey (48.40)
  • Kyren Williams (22.70)
  • Brian Robinson (42.50)
  • Tony Pollard (42.10)
  • Bijan Robinson (20.75)

There have already been three significant injuries to running backs (Austin Ekeler, Nick Chubb, and Saquon Barkley), sending fantasy managers to an ultra-thin waiver wire to solve their injury woes.

Also, check out FullTime Fantasy‘s Week 3 DFS QB Report, WR Report, and TE Report.

Top Tier Options

Tony Pollard, DAL (DK – $8,000/FD – $9,400)

Over the first two weeks of the season, the Cowboys have played from the lead for about 150 minutes while never trailing in a game. They’ve struggled to run the ball in other matches (4.1 and 3.0 yards per rush) despite averaging 37 carries. Pollard has been on the field for 64% of their snaps in both contests, leading to 191 combined yards with two touchdowns and nine catches (42.10 fantasy points in PPR formats). He is well behind last year’s pace in yards per rush (3.6 – 5.2 in 2022) and yards per catch (5.4 – 9.5 in 2022). Pollard scored eight of his 12 touchdowns at home last season.

The Cardinals defended running back well over the first two games (44/149/1 – 3.4 yards per carry). They’ve allowed two receiving scores to backs, with minimal damage in catches (8) and receiving yards (46). Arizona finished 27th in running back defense (27.39 FPPG) in 2022.

Pollard had seven rushes inside the five-yard line and 12 inside the 10 yards. I didn’t like to see Rico Dowdle on the field near the goal line last week on one series. But Dowdle failed to reach paydirt in his two chances. Pollard’s 32 touches in Week 2 were career-high. His salary in the DFS market requires an impact game. That is something he achieved only once in 2022 (149 combined yards with three touchdowns and one catch). I see a correct game coming in big plays, giving him a chance to be the top running back of the week.

Bijan Robinson, ATL (DK – $8,000/FD – $9,000)

The fantasy market got a taste of the potential in Week 2 vs. the Packers. Atlanta gave him 24 touches compared to 16 by Tyler Allgeier, leading to a wide edge in combined yards (172 to 48). His snap count rose from 63% to 72%. Robinson had 39 touches on the year while averaging 6.2 yards per rush. Two of his plays gained at least 20 yards.

His first road start comes in Detroit, matching him against the electric Jahmyr Gibbs. The Lions played well vs. the run over the first two games (23/90 and 25/82/2 – 3.6 yards per rush), with 37.8% of their yards allowed coming from…
