A three-star recruit from James Madison High School in Dallas, Gray originally committed to Missouri but was ruled academically ineligible and spent two years at Blinn College in Brenham, TX. After spurning TCU, Gray signed with SMU in 2020 and caught 33-of-49 targets for 448 yards, 4 TDs, and contributed another 206 yards as a returner. Earned All-AAC First-team honors in 2021 after a 49/803/9 showing for the Mustangs and declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft.
