2026 NFL Week 1 Recap: Fantasy Stars, Letdowns, Injuries and What Comes Next

Every game, every major fantasy performance and every injury that matters—plus the Week 2 matchup awaiting all 32 teams.

Live update: This recap covers all 15 completed Week 1 games. Denver at Kansas City closes the week Monday night and is previewed at the bottom.

Week 1 did not ease fantasy managers into the 2026 season. Chicago hung 59 points on Carolina, Josh Allen authored another late escape, Jahmyr Gibbs and Chris Olave traded monster performances into overtime, and multiple fantasy starters left their openers injured. One week never tells us everything—but usage, opportunity and health can tell us what deserves immediate attention.

Seattle Seahawks 13, New England Patriots 10

SEAHAWKS SURVIVE THE SUPER BOWL REMATCH

Seattle erased a 10-0 deficit after losing Sam Darnold early, with Drew Lock stepping in to complete 16 of 22 passes for 185 yards. His 45-yard fourth-down touchdown strike to Jaxon Smith-Njigba tied the game, and Seattle’s defense intercepted Drake Maye three times in the fourth quarter to finish the comeback.

Big performancesSmith-Njigba immediately confirmed his alpha role with 122 receiving yards and the game’s pivotal touchdown. Rhamondre Stevenson supplied 95 scrimmage yards on 22 touches with TreVeyon Henderson inactive.
Fantasy letdownsMaye’s 178 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions turned a manageable fantasy day into a damaging one. New England’s passing game also lost A.J. Brown before it could establish any rhythm.

Injury watch: Darnold suffered a hip/glute injury and is expected to miss Week 2. Brown sustained a high-ankle sprain and has since been placed on injured reserve. Seattle safety Nick Emmanwori also aggravated an ankle injury.

Up next: Seattle visits Arizona; New England hosts Pittsburgh.

San Francisco 49ers 27, Los Angeles Rams 7

PURDY AND THE 49ERS CONTROL MELBOURNE

San Francisco dominated the historic Australia opener in every phase. Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes—finding Demarcus Robinson, Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel—and the 49ers’ defense repeatedly shut the door on Matthew Stafford and the Rams.

Big performancesPurdy delivered the clean multi-score opener fantasy managers wanted. Evans caught six of seven targets and scored in his 49ers debut, while Christian McCaffrey looked explosive even without finding the end zone.
Fantasy letdownsThe entire Rams passing game belongs here. Stafford produced no passing scores, Puka Nacua was muted, and Kyren Williams’ five-yard touchdown was the only fantasy moment that kept the offense from being a total loss.

Injury watch: Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after the game; no return timetable has been announced. San Francisco also monitored De’Zhaun Stribling and Jake Tonges.

Up next: San Francisco hosts Miami; the Rams host the Giants on Monday night.

Chicago Bears 59, Carolina Panthers 37

THE HIGHEST-SCORING WEEK 1 GAME IN NFL HISTORY

Caleb Williams accounted for four touchdowns as Chicago turned a 31-31 tie into a runaway. He completed 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and added 65 rushing yards. D’Andre Swift ran for 124 yards and three touchdowns, while Kyle Monangai needed only 10 carries to reach 100 yards.

Big performancesWilliams and Swift were weekly matchup-winners. Bryce Young’s 361 yards and three touchdowns rewarded managers on the other side, Jalen Coker exploded for 8-138-2, and Chuba Hubbard scored both rushing and receiving touchdowns.
Fantasy letdownsThere were few true fantasy failures in a 96-point game. The warning belongs to any secondary Bears back or receiver whose opportunity was buried beneath Swift, Monangai and Williams’ rushing production.

Injury watch: No major fantasy injury defined the game. Continue monitoring official practice reports after such a high-volume, high-play-count opener.

Up next: Chicago hosts Minnesota; Carolina visits Atlanta.

Cincinnati Bengals 33, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27

CINCINNATI’S DEFENSE CASHES IN

The Bengals converted three first-half Tampa Bay fumbles into touchdowns and forced four turnovers overall. Joe Burrow was steady rather than spectacular, completing 25 of 35 passes for 254 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Big performancesEvan McPherson drilled all four field-goal attempts, including kicks from 55 and 58 yards. Cincinnati’s defense became an unlikely Week 1 difference-maker.
Fantasy letdownsBaker Mayfield completed 23 of 28 passes but lost three fumbles and failed to throw a touchdown. Cincinnati’s premium pass-catchers also finished without the eruption managers expected in a 33-point day.

Injury watch: No headline fantasy injury emerged. The more urgent Tampa Bay issue is ball security and how it affects offensive efficiency in Week 2.

Up next: Cincinnati visits Houston; Tampa Bay hosts Cleveland.

Detroit Lions 31, New Orleans Saints 30 (OT)

GIBBS WINS THE SHOOTOUT—BARELY

Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns, then Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown for their second touchdown connection on Detroit’s first overtime possession. New Orleans answered with a Tyler Shough touchdown pass but failed on its two-point attempt.

Big performancesGibbs was elite, St. Brown scored twice, and Chris Olave commanded the afternoon with 10 catches for 182 yards. Shough overcame three turnovers to throw for 410 yards and three scores.
Fantasy letdownsShough’s turnovers mattered in formats that punish interceptions and fumbles. Detroit’s secondary targets were squeezed by the concentrated Goff-to-St. Brown scoring production.

Injury watch: No major skill-position injury overshadowed the offensive fireworks. Usage is the story: Olave looked fully healthy and owned a true WR1 workload.

Up next: Detroit visits Buffalo on Thursday night; New Orleans visits Baltimore.

Buffalo Bills 36, Houston Texans 31

ALLEN DOES IT AGAIN

Josh Allen accounted for four touchdowns and led a 96-yard winning drive, finishing it with a 34-yard strike to Joshua Palmer with 1:36 remaining. Allen threw for 334 yards and two scores while adding two more touchdowns on the ground.

Big performancesDalton Kincaid erupted for five catches and 130 yards. DJ Moore posted 5-100-1 in his Buffalo debut. David Montgomery scored three times—two rushing and one receiving—in his first game for Houston.
Fantasy letdownsThe touchdown concentration around Montgomery left Houston’s other marquee skill players with less than fantasy managers anticipated in a 31-point performance.

Injury watch: Buffalo entered the game without a fully healthy Ty Johnson, increasing the importance of monitoring the backfield’s receiving-down roles during Week 2 practice.

Up next: Buffalo hosts Detroit on Thursday night; Houston hosts Cincinnati.

Baltimore Ravens 41, Indianapolis Colts 23

HENRY MAKES HISTORY; FLOWERS LEAVES HURT

Derrick Henry rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns, moving past Marcus Allen into third place on the NFL’s career rushing-touchdown list. Lamar Jackson added 324 passing yards, one passing score and one rushing touchdown.

Big performancesZay Flowers produced a career-high 150 yards on five receptions before leaving. Jonathan Taylor kept Indianapolis fantasy lineups afloat with 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Fantasy letdownsDaniel Jones managed only 166 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. Baltimore’s dominant Henry-centered attack left little scoring oxygen for its secondary weapons.

Injury watch: Flowers reinjured his hamstring and could miss time. Ravens rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane fractured his wrist. Both developments could redistribute targets immediately.

Up next: Baltimore hosts New Orleans; Indianapolis visits Kansas City on Sunday night.

Jacksonville Jaguars 34, Cleveland Browns 10

LAWRENCE PICKS CLEVELAND APART

Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdown passes and completed 18 of 23 attempts for 245 yards. Jacksonville led 31-0 before backing off, distributing at least one reception to 10 different players.

Big performancesLawrence was one of Week 1’s cleanest quarterback winners. Parker Washington led the Jaguars with five catches for 83 yards and scored the first touchdown of the afternoon.
Fantasy letdownsDeshaun Watson’s late 46-yard touchdown to rookie Denzel Boston dressed up an otherwise poor day. He threw an interception, lost a fumble and absorbed five sacks while Cleveland fell behind 34-3.

Injury watch: Browns running back Dylan Sampson exited with an injury. His practice participation will matter for Cleveland’s Week 2 backfield distribution.

Up next: Jacksonville visits Denver; Cleveland visits Tampa Bay.

Pittsburgh Steelers 20, Atlanta Falcons 13

WATT FLIPS THE GAME

Aaron Rodgers opened his final season with 221 passing yards and a touchdown, but T.J. Watt authored the defining performance: two sacks, three tackles for loss and a fourth-quarter pick-six.

Big performancesBijan Robinson remained matchup-proof despite Atlanta’s loss, rushing for 83 yards and catching eight passes for 90 yards and a touchdown—173 yards from scrimmage.
Fantasy letdownsCooper Rush completed only 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards, one score and two interceptions. Atlanta’s passing ceiling will remain capped if that efficiency continues.

Injury watch: Falcons guard Chris Lindstrom entered concussion protocol, and defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand left with a knee injury. Any offensive-line absence matters for Robinson’s Week 2 setup.

Up next: Pittsburgh visits New England; Atlanta hosts Carolina.

New York Jets 23, Tennessee Titans 10

HALL AND THE JETS CONTROL THE CLOCK

New York possessed the ball for nearly 39 minutes and outgained Tennessee 367-195. Geno Smith completed 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards, while Breece Hall carried 22 times for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Big performancesHall’s volume and 100-yard opener quieted workload concerns. Rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq also scored, giving fantasy managers an immediate role to investigate.
Fantasy letdownsCam Ward managed 140 passing yards with a late touchdown while facing constant pressure. Tennessee’s offense created too little volume for its pass-catchers.

Injury watch: Jets rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. injured his ankle. Tennessee lost tight end Ethan Davis to a season-ending ACL tear, a development that will reshape the position’s routes and targets.

Up next: New York hosts Green Bay; Tennessee hosts Philadelphia.

Arizona Cardinals 26, Los Angeles Chargers 14

BRISSETT AND McBRIDE SPOIL THE CHARGERS’ OPENER

Jacoby Brissett threw for 277 yards and a touchdown, while Chad Ryland made four field goals as Arizona steadily pulled away. Rookie Jeremiyah Love scored in his NFL debut.

Big performancesTrey McBride opened with nine receptions, 95 yards and a touchdown—exactly the bankable volume expected from an elite fantasy tight end. Love’s debut score gives managers a reason to track his share of the backfield.
Fantasy letdownsJustin Herbert was held to 209 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Chargers never found consistent answers in their first game under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

Injury watch: Ladd McConkey left in the third quarter with a chest injury after posting 5-82-1. KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Elijah Molden suffered hamstring injuries.

Up next: Arizona hosts Seattle; the Chargers host Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Raiders 27, Miami Dolphins 13

JEANTY POWERS THE RAIDERS

Kirk Cousins threw three touchdowns in his Las Vegas debut, two of them to Ashton Jeanty. The second-year back carried 23 times for 102 yards and added six catches for a team-high 45 yards.

Big performancesJeanty’s 29 touches, 147 scrimmage yards and two receiving scores were among the most encouraging workloads of Week 1. Cousins’ yardage was modest, but three scores got the job done.
Fantasy letdownsMiami converted only two of 10 third downs. Malik Willis threw for 220 yards with an interception and ran for the Dolphins’ only touchdown, leaving the established Miami playmakers well below expectations.

Injury watch: No major in-game fantasy injury drove this result. Miami’s offensive health and quarterback plan remain essential Week 2 checkpoints.

Up next: Las Vegas visits the Chargers; Miami visits San Francisco.

Minnesota Vikings 39, Green Bay Packers 22

WENTZ FINISHES MINNESOTA’S 29-POINT SURGE

Minnesota scored the final 29 points after Kyler Murray’s Vikings debut ended with a concussion. Carson Wentz entered and threw three touchdown passes, while Justin Jefferson caught eight balls for 92 yards and two scores.

Big performancesJefferson remains inevitable. Christian Watson was Green Bay’s bright spot with six catches for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and Jordan Love piled up 387 passing yards despite the lopsided finish.
Fantasy letdownsGreen Bay’s offense produced yards after the game tilted, but the Packers failed to protect a 22-10 advantage. Managers should not mistake Love’s 42 attempts for a weekly baseline.

Injury watch: Murray is in the concussion protocol, making Wentz a possible Week 2 starter. His status will be one of the week’s biggest quarterback stories.

Up next: Minnesota visits Chicago; Green Bay visits the Jets.

Philadelphia Eagles 24, Washington Commanders 22

HURTS HOLDS OFF A LATE WASHINGTON PUSH

Jalen Hurts threw three touchdown passes and added 46 rushing yards as Philadelphia won its sixth straight season opener. Washington scored twice in the fourth quarter but failed on a potential tying two-point conversion.

Big performancesDallas Goedert caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Dontayvion Wicks turned two receptions into 73 yards and a score in his Eagles debut. Saquon Barkley added 83 yards on 15 carries.
Fantasy letdownsJayden Daniels finished with only 164 passing yards and needed two late touchdowns to rescue his fantasy line. Philadelphia’s star wide receivers were overshadowed by Goedert and Wicks.

Injury watch: Washington tight end Chig Okonkwo left injured, along with Frankie Luvu and Tyler Owens. Okonkwo’s status could create an immediate waiver-wire opportunity.

Up next: Philadelphia visits Tennessee; Washington visits Dallas.

New York Giants 28, Dallas Cowboys 20

DART DELIVERS IN HARBAUGH’S DEBUT

Jaxson Dart threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns as the Giants opened the John Harbaugh era with a divisional win. New York’s defense intercepted Dak Prescott at a critical moment to protect the lead.

Big performancesIsaiah Likely caught eight passes for 78 yards and two scores, instantly rewarding aggressive fantasy drafters. Cam Skattebo ran for 81 yards and a touchdown. Malik Nabers returned from ACL and meniscus surgery with six catches for 69 yards.
Fantasy letdownsPrescott threw for only 175 yards. CeeDee Lamb scored, but the limited yardage kept his ceiling down; Dallas’ passing offense never created sustained explosive production.

Injury watch: Cowboys safety Malik Hooker suffered a forearm fracture and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown also left injured. Najee Harris was inactive for New York, leaving Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary to handle the backfield.

Up next: The Giants visit the Rams on Monday night; Dallas hosts Washington.

Monday Night Football: Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs

WEEK 1 FINALE • MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 • 8:15 PM ET

Denver and Kansas City close the opening week at Arrowhead Stadium. Fantasy matchups will hinge on Patrick Mahomes’ first regular-season game back, Denver’s revamped offense and how each backfield divides its most valuable touches.

What to watchTrack Mahomes’ mobility and downfield aggression, Denver’s protection plan, red-zone backfield usage on both teams and which secondary pass-catcher earns a full-time route share.

Up next: Denver hosts Jacksonville; Kansas City hosts Indianapolis on Sunday night.

Five Fantasy Takeaways From Week 1

  1. Do not dismiss historic usage. Jeanty’s 29 touches, Hall’s 22 carries and Olave’s 10 receptions are more predictive than a fluky touchdown.
  2. Chicago’s offense deserves an immediate upgrade. Williams’ rushing floor and Ben Johnson’s ability to create explosive runs were on full display.
  3. The injury wire is already moving. A.J. Brown is on IR, Darnold is expected to miss Week 2, Murray is in concussion protocol and Flowers’ hamstring requires close attention.
  4. Several tight ends announced themselves. Kincaid, McBride, Likely and Goedert all created genuine weekly leverage.
  5. React, but do not overreact. One opener can reveal a role. It cannot establish a full-season efficiency baseline by itself.
