Fantasy Football Injury Report

Elijah Mitchell

Fantasy Football Injury Report Week 14

The fantasy football playoff season is now within reach. Nothing can ruin a contending roster quite like an untimely injury. Here are some of the key injuries for fantasy enthusiasts to be aware of heading into Week 14 of the 2021 NFL season.

Elijah Mitchell (RB) San Francico 49ers – After another stellar 25-touch outing in Week 13, rookie sensation Elijah Mitchell entered the league’s concussion protocol on Monday. This means Mitchell is unlikely to practice much if at all ahead of Week 14 and there may be no definite clarity on his status until gametime. We’ll monitor this closely all week, but with Jeff Wilson (knee) also ailing, the 49ers could could be down to JaMycal Hasty to face the Bengals.

Keenan Allen (WR) Los Angeles Chargers – On Monday, Allen was placed on the reserve/COVID list and will need to submit two negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be cleared to face the Giants.

Adam Thielen (WR) Minnesota Vikings – Thielen suffered a high-ankle sprain and could be out of the lineup for multiple weeks. With the Vikings playing on Thursday this week, there is no chance Thielen will suit up. Fantasy managers should look for other option for at lest the next two weeks and hope Thielen can be back to full health in time for the fantasy finals. Minnesots RB Dalvin Cook is also expected to miss this week with his banged up shoulder.

D’Andre Swift (RB) Detroit Lions – Dan Campbell’s last comments implied that Swift might only miss one game, which means the star running back could be back in time for this week’s trip to Denver. Swift will need to get in a couple of practice sessions before he’s cleared, so we’ll keep an eye on Detroit’s backfield all week.

Deebo Samuel (WR) San Francisco 49ers – A groin injury kept Samuel out of San Francisco’s loss in Seattle last week. Early reports are the team is hopeful that Samuel will return this week but the original diagnosis was a 2-3 week recovery time. We consider Samuel doubtful to suit up but his ability to participate, or not participate in practice this week will be telling. We’ll keep an eye on Samuel’s status all week and update our projections and the Discord channel as news breaks.

Julio Jones (WR) Tennessee Titans – The Titans designated Jones to return from IR, opening up a three-week window for the veteran wideout to be activated on game day. Jones practiced on Monday after missing four weeks with a hamstring injury. If Jones is cleared to play in Week 14, he’d be on the WR3 radar in a tasty matchup against Jacksonville.

Damien Harris (RB) New England Patriots – Harris was off to a brilliant start on Monday, running for 111 yards and a touchdown before exiting the game in the second quarter with a hamstring injury and not returning. Hamstring injuries are notorious for reoccurring when not given proper time off to fully heal, so New England’s Week 14 bye comes at the perfect time for Harris.

Joe Burrow (QB) Cincinnati Bengals – Burrow dislocated his pinkie on his right hand but was able to finish the game in some pain. As of now, Burrow is expected to be able to play through the injury but it could take some zip off the ball or reoccur. As long as he starts, we’re not downgrading Burrow as of yet.

Jalen Hurts (QB) Philadelphia Eagles – While the absence of Hurts in Week 13 did leave for another memorable episode of Minshew Mania, starring Garnder “Maverick” Minshew, Hurts is expected to be back under center when the Eagles return to action in Week 15.

Darren Waller (TE) Las Vegas Raiders – Waller was upgraded to day-to-day with a knee injury that caused him to sit last week. Still, the Raiders have a capable backup and would be wise to let their star tight end get close to 100% rather than putting him back out there with the risk of reinjury. We’ll monitor Waller’s practice habits all week but would lead towards expecting him to sit this week.

Logan Thomas (TE) Washington Football Team – Thomas finally returned to the lineup just to hurt his knee in Week 13. Although the initial diagnosis of a torn ACL/MCL was incorrect, the Football Team is still seeking further tests to confirm the severity of Thomas’s injury. At this point, it’s almost certainly a fantasy season-ending injury.

Daniel Jones (QB) New York Giants – Both Jones and Mike Glennon are not expected to play this week, which puts Jake Fromm in-line to make his first NFL start in Los Angeles. Fade the Giants this week.

Justin Fields (QB) Chicago Bears – Fields has already missed two starts with a rib injury and could be closer to suiting up. However, it’s a pain management issue for the rookie signal-caller and the Bears aren’t expected to rush Fields back when Andy Dalton is available. Consider Fields 50/50 at best for Week 14.

Corey Davis (WR) New York Jets – Davis aggravated a groin injury that has been troublesome for over a month and will have season-ending surgery.

David Njoku (TE) Cleveland Browns – On Tuesday the Browns placed Njoku on the reserve/COVID list. This puts Njoku’s Week 14 availability in doubt. If vaccinated, Njoku would have to have two negative tests 24-hours apart before Sunday. If he’s held out, expect more targets for Austin Hooper in an excellent spot against a Baltimore defense allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends.
