Week 14 Waiver Wire Pickups

Quarterbacks

Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars

Out goes Foles and in comes Minshew. There’s hope here since Minshew is certainly way more mobile than Foles, but have the Jaguars given up? More importantly, are you willing to roll the dice during your Fantasy playoffs to find out?

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans

Just. Play. Tannehill. He’s got a great matchup against the Raiders who have fallen off a cliff in the last two games. Tannehill’s ceiling is lower than most starters, but his floor is higher. You could easily ride him this week.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Miami Dolphins

Say what you will about Fitpatrick, but every time he plays there’s a little Fitzmagic in him. I expect the Jets to play appreciably better in Week 14, but Jets S Jamal Adams is not 100% and the Jets defense goes as he goes. You can use Fitz if you are desperate, but I think 250 passing yards and 2 TDs seems about right.

Devlin Hodges, Pittsburgh Steelers

It’s all about matchups and the Steelers have a great one against the Cardinals. Could you ever imagine that a 3rd string QB with the nickname of “Duck” would be Fantasy relevant in Week 14? Hodges is way more than relevant; he’s a great Fantasy play.

Running Backs

Darwin Thompson, Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs RB Darwin ThompsonWhat are the Chiefs waiting for? This kid looks terrific and should be their starter right now. I am not sure that will happen this week against New England, but I fully expect Thompson to play and think he could have a somewhat major role in the game especially if the Chiefs are playing from behind. I would spend my FAAB on him for sure.

Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers

Mostert is in play ONLY if the 49ers keep Matt Breida out next week. I would bid a few bucks on him for sure but would not use him until the active/inactive lists come out. The 49ers have a brutal matchup against the Saints this week, so be careful going all in on Mostert.

Alexander Mattison, Minnesota Vikings

Dalvin Cook has already said that he will play in Week 14, but he could have a snap count die to his injured shoulder. I am not telling you to play Mattison as much as I am telling you to have him at the ready in case he needs to be active.

Patrick Laird, Miami Dolphins

Kalen Ballage left the game last week with a leg injury and he is questionable for Week 14. Laird is not the greatest runner out of the backfield, but he certainly has good hands and could be an asset in PPR formats. I think it’s reasonable to expect a week of 4-5 catches for 40-50 yards from him against the Jets.

Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

If you are playing in a standard league, you might want to pick up Barber. He scored two short yardage TDs last week and seems to be Bruce Arians’ favorite RB in the red zone. The Bucs are playing at home this week against a reeling Colts team, so another Barber TD is a possibility.

Wide Receivers

Anthony Miller, Chicago Bears

If Miller is available in your league, now is the time to pounce. He has finally developed a rapport with Trubisky and with no healthy tight end on the Bears rosters, it seems like they are going to Miller in the slot much more than ever before.

James Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers

You have to love the matchup this week as the Steelers travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals who happen to play no defense. The pace of play will be up, and the scoring will be higher. Washington has looked great recently and I can easily see him scoring a long-distance TD.

Allen Lazard, Green Bay Packers

I think that Lazard is becoming Aaron Rodgers’ WR2 and for that reason alone I am interested. I am also interested because the Packers are playing the Redskins at home in what should be another blowout.

Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons

This move is predicated on Julio Jones missing time over the next three weeks. If Julio plays, Gage needs to be benched. If Julio sits, Gage needs to be started. If you own Julio (or Ridley), stash Gage now or regret it later.

A.J. Brown, Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans WR A.J. BrownCorey Davis is obviously not a WR1, so possibly A.J. Brown will step up and become Tannehill’s favorite target. It’s hard to buy into the Titans offense, which prefers to have fewer than 30 pass attempts per game, but Brown looks the part and is able to run great routes and get good separation. He has the look of a future star.

Tight Ends

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

If Everett remains out, Higbee is someone I would keep my eye on. The Rams like throwing to the tight end and Higbee had a mini-breakout game in Week 13.

Kaden Smith, New York Giants

Smith’s viability depends entirely on the availability of Evan Engram and Rhett Elllison. If both TEs are out this week, Smith is certainly someone worth owning, but you might need to wait to Friday to make this decision.

O.J. Howard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I am SO annoyed with the Bucs TE situation right now. One week Howard is benched and the next he gets five receptions. I am not sure if you can trust him, but if someone in your league (most likely me) dropped him, I would stash him and see if he can help over the next three weeks.
