Not So Magnificent Seven
Here are seven players who have been mild disappointments in 2018 who could be potential stars in 2019.
— Cardinals WR Christian Kirk — Perhaps I shouldn’t consider 2018 a disappointing season for Kirk, but I will. 2018 was a disappointing season for the entire Cardinals offense and organization. But Kirk’s year struck me as disappointing as he had two games of more than five catches, no 100-yard receiving games (his best was 94) and he caught only three TDs. In his defense, I will admit that he was playing out of position for most of the season. Kirk is a natural slot receiver, but the Cardinals already have future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald in that position. If the Cardinals decide to let Fitzgerald go in the off-season (as they probably should), Kirk will thrive. Hopefully, QB Josh Rosen will continue to grow in his sophomore season. I look at Kirk as a WR4 in 2019 with a chance at becoming a WR3 if he can finally get into the right spot on the field.
— Bears WR Anthony Miller — Miller got off to a slow start this campaign, only catching eight passes through Week 5. After that though, he began to heat up especially when Allen Robinson was injured. However, soon after Mitch Trubisky injured his shoulder and Miller was barely seeing targets from backup Chase Daniel. I think the word that sums up both Miller (and the Bears) is potential. Miller potentially could be a game-changing slot receiver in the Bears high octane offense. I sense that the Bears (and especially Trubisky) are about a year away from really dominating. In 2019 look for Miller to supplant Taylor Gabriel as the number two receiving option and become a weekly Fantasy contributor.
