RB Jay Ajayi – After a breakthrough season in 2016 with the Dolphins, Ajayi fell out of favor with Miami’s coaching staff after a slow start to the year (532 combined yards with no TDs and seven catches). His game was much improved with the Eagles (5.8 yards per rush and 9.1 yards per catch). With Miami, Jay averaged 21.7 touches per game compared to 11.4 with Philadelphia. Over his last three games with the Eagles, Ajayi gained 242 combined yards with five catches and one TD on 46 touches plus 254 combined yards in three games in the playoffs with 16 touches per game. In 2018, the RBs on Philly combined for 2,287 yards with 13 TDs and 53 catches. In 2018, Jay will be the early down back with minimal chances in the passing game. A fair starting point would be 250 touches for 1,200 yards with a chance at double-digit TDs. Ajayi will have the most value in games when Philly plays from the lead. Mid-tier RB2 in PPR leagues.
RB Doug Martin – After a great rookie season (1,916 combined yards with 12 TDs and 49 catches), Martin has been a Fantasy bust in four of his last five seasons. Over his last 16 games in 2016 and 2017, Doug gained only 2.9 yards per rush with only six TDs and fading value in the passing game (23/218). After missing the first three games in 2017, Tampa gave Martin 119 touches over the next seven games leading to only 403 yards with two TDs and seven catches. Doug is full of disappointment while only being an insurance card on early downs. Marshawn Lynch rarely gets hurt, and Oakland has better pass-catching talent on the roster. Only a waiver wire options for me unless the Raiders have some injuries at RB over the summer.
RB Jeremy McNichols – Over the last two years at Boise State, McNichols combined for 3,960 yards with 53 TDs and 88 catches. He suffered a torn labrum in February of 2017 that required surgery. Jeremy will offer third down ability when healthy. If healthy, McNichols was expected to be drafted in the first two rounds of the 2017 NFL Draft. Last year Tampa waived him before the start of the season leading to the 49ers adding him to the practice squad. His game projects to be higher than both Breida and Williams, which makes him a dark horse for early-down carries in San Fran. Player to watch this summer.
