2019 Fantasy Baseball: Weekend Recap (April 29)

Now that you've seen the new Avengers movie & that crazy GoT episode, it's time this weekend's recap from Senior Fantasy Baseball Expert Adam Ronis

All eyes were on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over the weekend. He made his MLB debut Friday and started all three games over the weekend. The Blue Jays third baseman went 3-for-12 with a double, one walk and three strikeouts as the team swept the A’s.

Guerrero Jr. got an ovation after every at-bat Friday. He hit a double down the right-field line in the ninth inning for his first major league hit. In 288 minor league games, Guerrero Jr. had a line of .331/.413/.531 with 44 home runs and 209 RBIs. He had 150 walks and 139 walks.

Twins outfielder Max Kepler homered for the third consecutive game Sunday. He has a line of .274/.340/.571 with 15 runs, seven home runs, and 16 RBIs.

One of the hot waiver wire pickups over the weekend was Nationals shortstop Carter Kieboom. He didn’t disappoint. He homered on Friday and again on Sunday. He is 3-for-12.

Nationals outfielder Victor Robles went 2-for-6 with a solo home run Sunday for his fourth homer and stole two bases Saturday giving him seven.

Nationals outfielder Juan Soto hit a three-run homer and stole a base Sunday. He has a slash line of .255/.376/.490 with 16 runs, six home runs, 22 RBIs and three stolen bases.

Nationals first baseman Matt Adams hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday. Adams will get increased playing time with Ryan Zimmerman on the IL with plantar fasciitis.

Cody Bellinger won’t cool off. The Dodgers first baseman/outfielder hit his 14th homer Sunday. He had three RBIs and has a slash line of .427/.500/.913 with 14 home runs and 36 RBIs. He’s tied with Christian Yelich for the major league lead in home runs. Yelich left Sunday’s game with lower back tightness and is unlikely to play Monday. He’s expected to avoid the IL.

Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill returned from the IL Sunday, allowing one earned run on five hits over six innings. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. He allowed five runs, although four were unearned.

Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen picked up his 10th save Sunday. He has a 3.07 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB ratio in 14.2 innings.

Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco had a scare earlier in the week, leaving a game early with a knee injury. He didn’t miss a start and dominated for six innings against the Astros Sunday night. He ran into trouble in the seventh inning and took the loss. He went 6.2 innings and allowed six hits, two walks, four runs and struck out eight.

Indians first baseman Carlos Santana hit the 200th home run of his career Sunday night. He has a slash line of .300/.422/.422 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.

Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty threw seven scoreless innings and allowed four hits, one walk and struck out four in a win over the Reds. He has a 4.06 ERA and 36:6 K:BB ratio in 31 innings.

Braves closer A.J. Minter blew a save on Saturday and was removed from a save chance on Sunday. He got one out and allowed two hits. Luke Jackson came in with a one-run lead and got Nolan Arenado to fly out and got a grounder from David Dahl to end the game. He’s worth adding to see if he closes more games.

Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon extended his hitting streak to 11 games Sunday. He had three hits and stole a base and has a slash line of .288/.341/.475 with 14 runs, three home runs, 15 RBIs and two steals.

Rockies first baseman Daniel Murphy returned from the IL last week and homered for the second straight game Sunday.

Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale allowed four runs in seven innings against the Rays in a loss. He allowed four hits, three walks and struck out eight and is 0-5 with a 6.30 ERA.

Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow struck out nine and allowed two runs in 6.2 innings against the Red Sox. He is 5-0 with a 1.78 ERA and a 38:7 K:BB ratio in 36 innings.

A’s pitcher Chris Bassitt was excellent in his second straight start. He went seven innings and allowed three hits, one run, no walks and struck out nine.

Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies hit a pair of solo homers Sunday. He has five home runs and 10 RBIs.

Ryan Pressly picked up his first save of the season Sunday after Roberto Osuna pitched two innings Saturday. Pressly pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and hasn’t allowed a run in 12.1 innings with a 13:0 K:BB ratio.

Diamondbacks third baseman Eduardo Escobar hit a pair of home runs Sunday. He has five home runs and 17 RBIs.

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is hitting for a low average, but the power is there. He homered, drove in three and scored two runs Sunday. He has a slash line of .232/.317/.679 with eight home runs.

Yankees first baseman Luke Voit reached base for the 39th consecutive game Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Pirates outfielder Melky Cabrera went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs Sunday, and he has a slash line of .333/.357/.506.

Tigers pitcher Matt Boyd pitched six innings and allowed five hits, one walk, and struck out nine in a loss. He has a 3.13 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a 48:10 K:BB ratio.

White Sox starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez allowed one unearned run, two hits, walked three and struck out a career-high 14. Lopez had 24 swinging strikes. He is 2-3 with a 6.03 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 39:17 K:BB ratio.

Mets pitcher Steven Matz went seven innings and allowed five hits, two runs, no walks and struck out four. He is 3-1 with a 3.68 ERA.

Mets pitcher Edwin Diaz picked up his eighth save and has 20 strikeouts in 10.2 innings.

After shortstop Jean Segura was activated from the IL Saturday, he was hit in the head with a fastball. He was in the lineup Sunday and went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Phillies pitcher Zach Eflin threw a complete game in a win over the Marlins. He allowed seven hits, one walk, one run and struck out three.

Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon was unavailable Sunday. He was hit by a pitch on the elbow over a week ago and has missed six of the last seven games.

Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.

Angels pitcher Matt Harvey went seven innings and allowed two hits, walked three and struck out five. He has a 6.54 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.

Brewers pitcher Gio Gonzalez made his first start of the season after signing with the team a few days ago, and he went five innings, allowing six hits, one walk, two runs and struck out two.

Twins third baseman Miguel Sano will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday.

Mets second baseman Robinson Cano was hit on the hand Sunday and x-rays were negative. He will get more tests when the swelling goes down.

A’s first baseman Matt Olson could begin a rehab assignment Tuesday.

White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez was placed on the IL with a high ankle sprain.

Red Sox outfielder J.D. Martinez sat Saturday and Sunday with back spasms.

Angels pitching prospect Griffin Canning will make his MLB debut Tuesday.
