Fantasy Baseball: Good News For Clayton Kershaw

Dr. Roto reviews the latest Fantasy Baseball developments from the weekend, including very good news for Clayton Kershaw owners who may have been worried about his recent injury.

Fantasy Baseball News and Notes

— Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw received some great news late Sunday night: his recent MRI showed that he has bicep tendinitis and not anything more severe. Expect the Dodgers to put him on the DL for the short term, but there’s an excellent chance that Kershaw will be back into the rotation as soon as his DL stint is over.

— Keep your eye on Mariners 1B Ryon Healy. Healy was injured in spring training and missed the first few games of the season with a bad ankle, but since his return, he has 5 HRs and 11 RBIs hitting in the bottom part of the Mariners lineup. If Healy can stay healthy, 30 HRs seems like a reasonable expectation.

— I’m not sure if Yankees SP Domingo German is the real deal or not, but after watching him pitch six shutout innings on Sunday (with 9 Ks), I am more than willing to pay up in FAAB to see if he can stick in the Yankees rotation.

— Indians SP Mike Clevinger is flying under the radar this season; he might be the best SP4 in the AL as of today.

— I like what I’ve seen from Atlanta Braves SP Mike Soroka, but I am not sure that he is ready to change any Fantasy fortunes just yet. On Sunday Soroka threw 84 pitches with only 49 strikes. He also had 3 walks and 3 Ks. If he doesn’t improve those numbers quickly, he might find himself heading back to Triple-A soon.

— Washington Nationals 1B/OF Matt Adams is hitting so well right now that the teams will have to figure out a way to keep his bat in the lineup even when everyone is fully healthy.

— Outside of A.J. Pollock, has there been a hotter hitter in baseball than Twins OF Eddie Rosario this past week? Anyone who thought that last year’s success was a mirage is clearly mistaken.

— Someone made me a decent offer for Padres OF Franchy Cordero in my home league this weekend, but there is no way I am trading him. Cordero has been red hot since he’s been called up and it appears that he has won a permanent spot not only in the OF but in the middle of the Padres’ batting order.

— Be patient with Astros 3B Alex Bregman if you own him. If you don’t own him, this might be the perfect time to trade for him. I fully expect him to have a hot streak coming shortly.

— One of my friends asked if he should drop Marlins OF Lewis Brinson. Sadly, I told him yes. When the year started, I had high expectations for Brinson to go 15/15 this season and be a catalyst in the Marlins lineup. However, right now he looks like a free swinger who can barely make contact. Brinson was such a highly regarded prospect over the last few seasons that it seemed strange to see him on three different teams in such a short time. Maybe all the scouts who thought that he couldn’t hit at the major league level were right. If he weren’t on the Marlins, he’d be in the minor leagues for sure by now.

About Shawn Childs 970 Articles
Shawn Childs has been a high stakes Fantasy baseball and football player since 2004 where he had success in his first season (three titles and $25,000 in winnings). In early years of the high stakes market in Fantasy baseball, he was ahead of the curve in player evaluation, draft value, and free agent bidding setting up four top-five finishes in the National Fantasy Baseball Championship. On the football side, he’s competed and won in all different formats – auctions, draft championship, main events, and high-dollar leagues. He won 2nd place overall in the 2014 Most Accurate Salary Cap Expert contest at FantasyPros. As a dual-sport player, it was natural to transition to the daily games where he is a “swing for the fences type of guy.” Childs has appeared in one FanDuel NFL Live Final and one DraftKings NFL Live Final, a season-ending tournament which led to a couple of chances to win over $1,000,000.
