2019 NFL Season Fantasy Stream of Consciousness (“A—C”)

Part 1 | Part 2

Arizona Cardinals

QB Kyler Murray played well at times but couldn’t get the ball in the end zone nearly enough. Still love the upside, but he needs to improve dramatically to be a consistent QB1. RB Kenyan Drake looked like the real deal and should be the team’s RB1 next year. David Johnson is on his way out. Chase Edmonds should have a role next season and could go under the radar. WR Christian Kirk stepped up his play but was still inconsistent. Rookie WR Andy Isabella was a major disappointment.

Atlanta Falcons

QB Matt Ryan is perennially underrated. RB Devonta Freeman should never be drafted before Round 5 (or even later). WR Julio Jones needs to find the end zone way more to be a Fantasy stud. WR Calvin Ridley’s health will be a major source of concern in the off-season. WR Russell Gage flashed nicely and should be a solid Round 11-12 pick. TE Austin Hooper is a top five TE.

Baltimore Ravens

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson

QB Lamar Jackson is arguably a top three overall pick next season. RB Mark Ingram played well in 2019, but Gus Edwards and Justice Hill merit more playing time and there could be a committee here. Marquise Brown and Mile Boykin were disappointing, but they will be undervalued in 2020, especially Brown. TE Mark Andrews is a top five TE and Hayden Hurst is probably worth drafting in Rounds 18-20 just in case of an Andrews injury. One note of concern—will want to see if OC Greg Roman returns to the team. If he take a head coaching job, who will be replacing him and how will that person gel with Lamar Jackson?

Buffalo Bills

QB Josh Allen stepped up considerably in his second season and is showing real potential. OC Brian Daboll needs to stick around to see Allen continue his ascension. RB Devin Singletary has the makings a of a future star RB1, but he needs to be more involved at the goal line. WRs John Brown stepped up and was a solid WR1. WR Cole Beasley was the perfect outlet for Allen and was very underrated. People tend to overlook him in drafts which is a mistake. TE Dawson Knox flashed some potential and deserves a closer look next season.

Carolina Panthers

QB is still in flux as Cam Newton might be back—or he might not. Kyle Allen showed that he is a solid backup QB but not a starter. RB Christian McCaffrey is the number #1 overall Fantasy pick next season without question. WR D.J. Moore has become an early third round pick. WR Curtis Samuel lacked consistency, but that could have been QB related. TE Greg Olsen will most likely retire and Ian Thomas will be the new starter. He is on the sleeper radar. Head Coaching change here will be crucial, as there are a lot of solid players here that need the right coaching to excel.

Chicago Bears

QB Mitch Trubisky flashed on occasion, but he is so unreliable that he can’t be recommended as a QB1. RB David Montgomery had a decent year, but not nearly as good as Fantasy owners hoped. He was going in the third round of drafts and performed more like a sixth or seventh round pick. RB Tarik Cohen had the most under the radar 79 catches in history. He should have been used more. WRs Allen Robinson was a legitimate WR1 and WR Anthony Miller seems to have emerged as a WR3. TE Trey Burton was injured all season and might be overlooked in 2020.

Cincinnati Bengals

QB Andy Dalton will be starting elsewhere in 2020. Joe Burrow is the likely first overall pick and should slide in immediately as the Day 1 starter. RB Joe Mixon started out slowly but then became one of the top producers in the league. The team needs to commit to the run more from the start of the season. With Burrow around, Mixon is clearly a second-round pick. WR A.J. Green will be back and might slide out of the first three rounds. He could have some upside value in Rounds 5-6. WR Tyler Boyd is a solid WR2 but could be over drafted next season. WR John Ross showed potential when healthy. TE Tyler Eifert played better than expected and shockingly stayed healthy all season, but I still won’t draft him.

Cleveland Browns

Head Coach Freddie Kitchens was the wrong man for the job from the get-go. There were too many strong personalities here that he could not control. This team needs a strong leader—maybe Urban Meyer or Mike McCarthy—to have any chance of success. QB Baker Mayfield was a Fantasy nightmare. He was the fifth or sixth QB off the board in most leagues and performed like he was the 25th pick. He should be undervalued at next year’s draft. RB Nick Chubb is a special talent who did not lose value even with Kareem Hunt around. Chubb is a late first round pick next season in most leagues. Hunt showed that he can still play at a high level. He probably moves on from Cleveland, and he is someone to watch next year. WR Odell Beckham Jr. needs to get his mind right. I will only draft him next year if I am happy with the new Head Coach and staff that comes in. They need to commit to Beckham, or he will implode again. WR Jarvis Landry has a hip injury that needs to be monitored closely in the off-season. He benefits hugely from Beckham’s presence. TE David Njoku has an incomplete grade on the season and will go in Rounds 10-11 in 2020 like always.
