The Yankees have been hammered by injuries and still have found a way to have a winning record. Several players have stepped up, including Domingo German. The Yankees right-hander has filled a big void left by Luis Severino.
German pitched 6.2 innings and allowed four hits, three walks, one run and stuck out seven in a 4-1 win over the Twins Sunday. German is 6-1 with a 2.35 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and a 39:12 K:BB ratio in 38.1 innings. German has a 25.8 percent strikeout rate with a 13.5 percent swinging strike rate.
The Yankees are 19-14. German will be counted on more with the Yankees placing pitcher James Paxton on the IL with left knee inflammation. Jonathan Loaisiga will take his spot in the rotation. Paxton is expected to miss about three weeks. Outfielder Aaron Hicks will begin a rehab assignment this week and could be activated as soon as the weekend. Severino won’t be back until after the All-Star break. Outfielder Clint Frazier will be activated from the IL today.
Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich missed most of the week with back soreness. He was used as a pinch-hitter Saturday and lined out to center. Yelich was back in the starting lineup Sunday and hit a two-run homer. He has 15 home runs and 36 RBIs.
Brewers closer Josh Hader struck out the side for his ninth save Sunday. He has a 39:5 K:BB ratio in 17.2 innings.
After a slow start to the season, Cubs pitcher Jose Quintana has turned things around. He allowed two runs on eight hits, with two walks and struck out two in six innings to beat the Cardinals Sunday night. He is 4-1 with a 3.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.
While most people are complaining about their catchers, those with Willson Contreras are thrilled. The Cubs catcher hit his ninth homer Sunday and has a line of .311/.432/.678 with 21 RBIs.
The Braves turned to Luke Jackson to close out the game Sunday against the Marlins and threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and allowed one hit. He has a 2.25 ERA and a 19:6 K:BB ratio in 16 innings. He could see more save opportunities.
Astros third baseman Alex Bregman hit a grand slam Sunday and has five homers in his last four games.
Royals third baseman Hunter Dozier has been one of the best waiver wire adds. He hit his eighth homer Sunday and has a line of .343/.446/.667.
Mariners first baseman Edwin Encarnacion hit his 10th homer Sunday, and teammate Jay Bruce hit No. 11.

Derek Dietrich homered Sunday for the fourth time in the last three games for the Reds. He has nine homers and a 1.047 OPS in 33 games.
The Pirates placed pitcher Jameson Taillon on the IL with a right elbow injury. An MRI showed his surgically-repaired UCL is still intact and Taillon will get a second opinion this week from Dr. David Altchek. Taillon won’t throw for four weeks. In seven starts, Taillon had a 4.10 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 30:8 K:BB ratio in 37.1 innings.
The Nationals placed outfielder Juan Soto on the IL with a sore back. He will rest and receive treatment for a few days before swinging a bat. Michael Taylor was in line to get more playing time, but he left Saturday’s game with a left wrist injury and was going for an MRI. Nationals first baseman Matt Adams left Saturday’s game with a jammed shoulder and was placed on the IL. Howie Kendrick should see more time at first base.
A’s closer Blake Treinen was unavailable over the weekend due to right elbow discomfort. Treinen felt better on Sunday. Team doctors will examine him on Monday. Treinen was dominant last season, and while a repeat wasn’t expected, Treinen has a 3.00 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and an 18:11 K:BB ratio in 15 innings. Lou Trivino would close if Treinen were out, although he was used in the seventh and eighth innings Sunday.
Rockies pitcher German Marquez allowed five runs in six innings at home but struck out nine in a no-decision. He has a 52:12 K:BB ratio in 52 innings with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP.
Fantasy owners of Starling Marte got a pleasant surprise when he was activated from the IL on Tuesday. He had a good week and capped it with a walk-off three-run homer in the 13th inning Sunday. He has four home runs, 15 RBIs and five stolen bases in 21 games.
Dodgers first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger missed two games over the weekend with a sore right shoulder. He played catch and hit in the batting cage before Sunday’s game and was able to pinch hit.
Giants closer Will Smith allowed a run Sunday but converted his ninth save.
Reds starter Luis Castillo had one bad inning, allowing four runs in the sixth, but struck out nine and allowed four hits with two walks in seven innings. He has a 1.97 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 59:19 K:BB ratio in 50.1 innings.
Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy hit a pair of homers Sunday.
Reds prospect Nick Senzel made his debut Friday and single and homered on Saturday.

Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon took batting practice Sunday and could be activated from the IL when first eligible on Tuesday.
A’s DH Khris Davis had to play the outfielder over the weekend with the team in a National League Park, and Davis crashed into the wall and left the game Sunday with a sore hip. He expects to play on Tuesday.
White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu continued his great start to the season. He hit his eighth homer Sunday and has a line of .291/.364/.551 with 33 RBIs.
Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain was hit by a pitch Sunday and has a left hand contusion. He won’t play Monday. He is expected to return Tuesday.
The longest game in Miller Park history was played Saturday night with the Brewers defeating the Mets, 4-3, in 18 innings. The Mets took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 18th on a single by Jeff McNeil before Ryan Braun ended the game with a two-run single.
Jose Leclerc, who was removed from the closer role for the Rangers, pitched a scoreless inning Saturday in the seventh inning. Shawn Kelley pitched the ninth to get the save.
Mets pitcher Steven Matz is dealing with a left forearm issue and will travel to New York Monday to get it checked out by doctors.
Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson made his first minor league rehab start Sunday at Triple-A. He allowed two hits, three runs, and four walks over 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. He was mostly in the 90-92 miles per hour range.
The Diamondbacks will call up Taylor Clarke to start Tuesday against the Rays. He has thrown three scoreless innings with two strikeouts in the majors this season.
A’s manager Bob Melvin indicated first baseman Matt Olson could return next week. He started a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday. He is coming off surgery to remove a broken hamate bone, so the power could take some time to return. He homered on Saturday.
Rays outfielder Austin Meadows could begin a rehab assignment this week.
The Reds sent outfielder Scott Schebler to Triple-A. They called up infielder/outfielder Josh VanMeter, who had a line of .336/.431/.736 with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs and five stolen bases at Triple-A. He’s 24 and wasn’t regarded as one of the teams top prospects.
Angels pitcher Cody Allen is expected to be activated from the IL Tuesday and will likely work in low leverage situations.
The Reds released outfielder Matt Kemp.
