Circa Survivor Report: Week 9

SAY IT ‘AINT-SO’ NEW ORLEANS!

As favorites dominated Week 9 in the NFL, the biggest road chalk of the slate proved to be the death blow for a large contingent in Circa’s Survivor contest. Our Circa Survivor Report: Week 9 recaps the carnage!

Firstly, favorites went 14-1 straight-up (SU) & 10-5 against the spread (ATS) in Week 9. Upon a deeper dive over the last month, favorites have been extremely profitable to invest in, posting marks of 47-12 (SU) (79.7%) and 37-22 (ATS) (62.7%).

In Week 9, nearly a quarter of the remaining 191 contestants backed the full-touchdown road favorite Saints to get past the dreadful Panthers. The second most-selected choice eliminated 40 contestants when Carolina earned a 23-22 upset victory.

After taking a 22-17 early in the fourth quarter, 20.9% of the pool was left in shock when Carolina’s Chuba Hubbard capped off a 64-yard drive by scoring his second touchdown of the game with only 2:24 remaining in the game. Following their seventh straight loss, New Orleans fired head coach Dennis Allen. Little consolation to the 40 entrants who watched their dream for the life-changing prize come to a crashing end.

Cincinnati, which was the most-most selected team, delivered a comfortable 24-point win as 8-point home favorites over Las Vegas.

Joe Burrow, who tied a career-high with five touchdown passes, piloted a dynamic air attack while Chase Brown rushed for a career-best 120 yards and a touchdown in the 42-17 rout of the Raiders. The Bengals earned their first home win (1-4), and improved to 4-5 on the season. The also kept their slim playoff hopes alive.

The Circa Survivor contest is a grueling contest which forces entrants to pick one winner every week, with no spread with one pivotal caveat. Entrants CAN NOT use the same team more than once during the course of the season.

In the quest for the biggest Survivor prize in history ($14,266,000), contestants in Week 10 will likely be heavily backing: Kansas City (-9.5) vs Denver, LA Chargers (-8) vs Tennessee, San Francisco (-6.5) at Tampa Bay, Philadelphia (-6.5) at Dallas and Chicago (-6.5) vs New England.

From a betting perspective, favorites hold a sizable 96-42 SU (69.6%) and 74-60-2 ATS (55.2%) edge. Home teams hold a slim 70-64 SU (52.2%) advantage (four international games) while road teams hold the coveted 74-60-4 ATS (55.2%) edge.

After nine weeks, 151 of the starting 14,266 entries remain alive and continue to dream!
