The rush to add Brandon Nimmo in most Fantasy Baseball leagues hasn’t been there. He was still sitting on the waiver wire in many leagues until this past weekend. The Mets outfielder had playing time concerns early in the season since he wasn’t a starter entering the season, but he has played every day since Yoenis Cespedes went to the disabled list.
Nimmo has put up good numbers, yet he’s owned in 36 percent of CBS Sports leagues and 25 percent in Yahoo! I was able to add him for $123 in a 15-team league on Sunday. Why’s there no love for Nimmo?

I am sure one of the reasons is some are concerned about his playing time long term. When Cespedes returns, he will play every day with Michael Conforto and Jay Bruce. Still, if Nimmo continue to play well and provide the spark from the lead off spot as he has been so far, the Mets can’t bench him.
There was talk of Bruce moving to first base before the Cespedes injury, opening a spot for Nimmo to play. The Mets offense isn’t potent and they lack a lead off hitter and Nimmo is a good one.
Nimmo was the 13th overall pick in 2011 and played in 91 major league games prior to this season. Nimmo is batting .271 with 24 runs, five home runs, nine RBIs, five stolen bases, a .422 on-base percentage and a .955 OPS in 107 at-bats.

Nimmo is a patient hitter, drawing walks 14.8 percent of the time. He has struggled against left-handed pitchers with a .154 average (4-for-26) and a 12:4 K:BB ratio. Nimmo didn’t show much power in the minors, but he’s hitting more fly balls with a 47.4 percent mark and a good hard hit rate of 41.6 percent.
Usually, if a player performs they find their way into playing time. Sometimes, you take a shot on a player even if it’s for the short-term, especially with most Fantasy teams dealing with injuries. The way Nimmo is playing, even the Mets can’t mess this up. On second thought, maybe they can.
Either way, Nimmo could be a 15-15 player and is especially appealing in on-base percentage leagues. His ownership is too low. Get on the Nimmo train.
