Fantasy Baseball News and Notes
— Angels SP/DH Shohei Ohtani showed why he could be the first dual-threat in the majors in decades after launching a three-run HR in his first ever home game at-bat. Do I think Ohtani is a freak of nature? Absolutely! Would I use him as a starter on offense on a Fantasy team? Yes, but only if the league used daily moves so I can take him in and out of my lineup depending on when he is playing. In mixed leagues that use weekly moves, I still think Ohtani is not a reliable starter (yet).
— Please I beg of you– no more questions about Braves SP Julio Teheran. I do not want him on my team. I don’t want him in a dream. I don’t want him even if you give me ice cream.
— I just have this feeling that Braves SS Dansby Swanson is going to have a good post-hype sleeper season. Remember, this was a guy that people projected 15/15 from last season. I think he gets those numbers in 2018.
— Shawn Childs might be the pitching whisperer. He’s been calling for the Matt Harvey breakout for the past two seasons, and Harvey looks like he is back to his old form. Yesterday he threw 86 pitches in five innings to go along with five Ks. Even better was that he only let up one hit. Harvey might be for real again, and he also might be on your league’s waiver wire.
— Keep your eye on Royals SP Jake Junis. He was brilliant in spring training, and so far, it looks like his confidence has carried over to the regular season. He looks like a great cheap add this week in FAAB.
— White Sox 2B Yoan Moncada has struggled thus far at the plate (he’s hitting only .176), and I have inside information that Moncada is putting all kinds of pressure on himself to perform this year. This is clearly more mental than physical, and it would not shock me to see the White Sox move him down in the batting order if he cannot get out of his own head.
DFS Plays (Main Slate only)
Starting Pitching
- Jon Gray — Padres lineup is not strong, and Gray is looking to rebound from his last start.
- Carlos Martinez — CMart was awful on Opening Day and need to cut down the walks. I think he throws a solid game tonight.
Favorite Stacks
- Oakland — Doug Fister did well the first time these teams faced each other, but he is going to implode soon.
- Colorado — Clayton Richard can pitch a solid game, but in general I hate soft-tossing LHP against the Rockies.
- Toronto — Carson Fulmer could get lit up.
Sneaky Stacks
- Texas — I like Sean Manaea a lot, but the BvP numbers are not in his favor.
- San Francisco — A big contrarian play considering how well King Felix looked on Opening Day.
Visionary Plays
- Matt Olson — Olson is due to hit a HR, and it could even be a double-dong night against the awful Doug Fister.
- Nolan Arenado — On nights with crappy pitchers, I love to load up on top hitters. Arenado will cost me a ton, but he will be worth every cent.
