Opening Day News & Notes
— Did you have White Sox 3B Matt Davidson in your DFS lineups? I know I did. Davidson isn’t that good a player, but he hits LHP well. If you play in a league that uses daily moves, feel free to start him whenever a lefty is on the mound.
— I cannot believe that the Red Sox bullpen blew that game for Chris Sale. Not only did RP Joe Kelly let up three walks in 1/3 of an inning, but RP Carson Smith also walked a run in before letting up a triple to Rays OF Denard Span. If the Red Sox bullpen cannot get the important late-inning outs, this season will be a long one for sure.
— I have ZERO idea why Red Sox Manager Alex Cora insists on batting 1B Hanley Ramirez third in the lineup. His swing is so long and slow that it is pathetic. Xander Bogaerts was mashing the ball during spring training and went 3-4 on Opening Day. There is no doubt that Bogaerts should be moved up in the order ASAP.
— Are there any doubts still about Yankees SP Luis Severino? There are none for me. He let up one hit in 5 2/3 IP yesterday and looked dominant on the mound. Speaking of dominant — the Yankees batting order might be better than advertised. Giancarlo Stanton is on pace to hit 324 HR!
— I was troubled by seeing Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez walk six Mets yesterday. If he wants to be an elite pitcher, he’s going to have to cut those walks down considerably.
— Keep your eye on Cubs OF Kyle Schwarber this season. Everyone at fulltimefantasy.com believes that Schwarber is going to have a breakout year. If you can get him in a trade, do it now before it’s too late.
— If you drafted Rangers SP Cole Hamels you need to abandon ship soon. Hamels is extremely hittable, and although he still gets strikeouts, I am afraid his WHIP will be close to 1.35 this season.
— If the A’s keep SS Marcus Semien in the second spot in the batting order, I think he’s going to have a big year. Semien is a good fastball hitter who has some pop (think 20+ HR) and some speed. It’s a perfect place for him to showcase his skill set.
— I know the Philadelphia Phillies are a much better team overall, but I think the Achilles heel for them is their bullpen. I don’t really trust Hector Neris as a closer, and their setup men are iffy at best. Their best two guys (Pat Neshek and Tommy Hunter) are hurt, so the late-inning nightmare that occurred in Atlanta yesterday might not be over for quite a while.

- David Price — He’s coming back to Tampa and has much to prove after last season.
- Masahiro Tanaka — He’s a solid pitcher and gets the benefit of one of the best bullpens in baseball.
- Kyle Hendricks — Only because the Marlins have a JV lineup
- Blake Snell (contrarian) — Use him on DK. Gets tons of K’s and the Red Sox might be reeling from yesterday’s disaster.
