Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 17

It is Christmas morning, and the NFL has several gifts this season for football fans. Among them is the final Thursday Night game between the Seahawks and Bears. Fulltime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 17 takes an abbreviated look at the game from a fantasy football and betting perspective.

The Seahawks had an opportunity to take control of the NFC West last week but lost a heartbreaker at home to the Minnesota Vikings. Now, Seattle has a tough task traveling east on short rest to frigid Chicago to take on the Bears. However, Chicago has lost nine straight games, which bodes well for the Seahawks’ odds of catching up with the Rams.

Meanwhile, the Bears are wrapping up a lost season that will result in a new regime next year. However, the players assuredly want to end things positively and get No. 1 pick Caleb Williams his fifth home win.

To do that, Chicago will have to pull the upset. Seattle is favored by 3.5 points and the total is a modest 44 points.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Seattle Seahawks 14 4 30 13 15
Chicago Bears 31 27 25 31 26

Chicago has mustered a miserable offense for most of the season. The Bears have only scored more than two touchdowns once during their nine-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Chicago ranks 23rd against the pass and 26th versus the run. Additionally, only the Jaguars allow more yards per play than the Bears.

The Bears’ struggles have been on both sides of the ball, and their -59 points differential is the second-worst in the NFC.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks face a must-win situation. They are currently out of the NFC playoff picture and cannot afford to lose another game, particularly to a bottom-dwelling opponent like the Bears.

The Seahawks are the second-most pass-heavy offense in football. And that strength matches up well against a Chicago defense that has started to slip. Chicago has allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks over the last five weeks. Additionally, the Bears’ inability to consistently sustain drives on offense should give Geno Smith and company ample opportunities to score points.

Seattle Offense

Geno Smith is second in the NFC with 3,955 passing yards. However, touchdowns have been harder to come by. Smith has only…

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 16

Last week’s NFC West showdown was a rain-soaked dud with zero touchdowns. On the surface, this week’s AFC West game looks like another low-scoring snoozer. However, with major playoff implications at stake, FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 16 finds some fantasy appeal for both squads.

One year ago, the Chargers were 5-9 and had just lost their starting quarterback to a season-ending finger injury and fired Brandon Staley. A year later, Jim Harbaugh has turned the franchise’s fortunes around. LA is in an excellent position to secure an AFC Wild Card spot.

Coincidentally, the Denver Broncos are directly competing with the Chargers for that postseason berth. Sean Payton has also done a masterful job quickly turning the Broncos back into contenders.

While neither team sets the world on fire offensively, this game projects to be a hard-fought, competitive contest. Back in October, the Chargers won 23-16 in Denver and the Broncos look to even the score in LA.

The home team is favored by three and the total sits at 42 points.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Denver Broncos 22 23 20 24 11
Los Angeles Chargers 26 25 23 19 20

Only the Chargers have allowed fewer points than Denver. Additionally, both teams rank outside of the top 20 in overall offense. Points will be at a premium on Thursday.

Jim Harbaugh has resurrected the Los Angeles defense. However, the offense is still a work in progress. The Chargers have topped 30 points once and been held under 20 six times. That includes their last three games. Two of those resulted in losses, culminated by last week’s 40-17 dismantling by the Buccaneers.

Injuries have played a big part in the Chargers’ offensive struggles. And facing a Denver defense that ranks fifth against the run while allowing the second-fewest yards per play won’t be easy.

Denver’s offense has been marginally better. The backfield has been a mess for fantasy managers but QB Bo Nix has exceeded expectations after a slow start. Denver has won four straight to improve to 9-5. The Broncos are a game up on the Chargers for second place in the tough AFC West.

When the Chargers defeated the Broncos in Week 6, Los Angeles dominated the time of possession 37:23 to 22:37. But without J.K. Dobbins and a banged-up Justin Herbert, the rematch favors the visitors.

Denver Offense

Bo Nix finished as QB9 in Week 6 versus this defense, mainly because he ran for 61 yards. In his last seven games, Nix is…

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 15

Last week’s NFC North showdown lived up to the hype, although the game wasn’t as high-scoring as we expected. FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 15 breaks down an NFC West rivalry with even more at stake.

Staying alive in a tightly-packed division is at stake as the 6-7 San Francisco 49ers host the surging 7-6 Los Angeles Rams. The second-place Rams have won three of four since getting healthier. They also beat the Niners back in Week 3, 27-24.

Meanwhile, San Francisco has no margin for error. Kyle Shanahan’s squad is in must-win territory and views all their remaining games as playoff contests. For the reigning NFC champs to keep their postseason hopes alive, they must even the score with a Rams team that just put up 44 points on the Bills.

This game is about as close as one would expect. San Fran is favored by 2.5 points and the total of 49.5 invites plenty of fantasy action.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Los Angeles Rams 15 9 25 15 16
San Francisco 49ers 4 7 7 2 11

Sean McVay has done a masterful job rallying his troops. The Rams have been devastated by injuries on both sides of the ball. After starting the season 1-4, the Rams have won 6-of-8 to climb into second place in the wide-open NFC West.

After hovering near the bottom of the league, LA is now an average offense that has looked formidable over the last six weeks. Getting key players back has been paramount.

Speaking of injuries, San Francisco has had their share. The 49ers have been missing Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey for the majority of the year. And McCaffrey isn’t the only running back to go down. In fact, the team may be down to their fourth starting running back to open Week 15.

However, the team continues to overcome adversity on offense. The Niners are one of the most balanced attacks in the league that continues to create chunk plays and produce points.

The atmosphere for this contest will mimic a playoff game. And that includes the pressure and ramifications for the loser. This should be another intriguing watch.

Los Angeles Offense

After struggling through the first half of 2024, Matthew Stafford has…

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 14

The fantasy postseason push opens with a premiere game between NFC North contenders. Coincidentally, both teams played last Thursday and come off a full allotment of rest. This should be an exciting game, loaded with fantasy-relevant players. FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 14 covers all fantasy-relevant for the game.

The Green Bay Packers have won three straight and sit at 9-3. Matt LaFleur’s squad is 4-1 on the road but has struggled against NFC North foes, posting a 1-2 record in divisional play. One of those defeats came one month ago against these same Lions. Evening the score is crucial for the Packers to remain in the hunt for the top overall seed.

Meanwhile, the Lions keep rolling. Detroit has won 10 consecutive games and leads the NFL in scoring. The Lions have been particularly potent at home, where Dan Campbell’s team is averaging over 35 points per game.

Vegas is predicting a good one. Detroit is favored by just 3.5 points and the total of 51.5 is the highest figure of the Week 14 slate.

Matchup

TEAM OFFENSE PASS RUSH YDS/PLAY POINTS
Green Bay Packers 3 10 5 2 8
Detroit Lions 2 5 4 3 1

These two NFC North rivals are closely matched. They have evenly split their last 10 meetings. Both teams are top-3 in overall offense, top-5 in rushing, and are among the three most potent big-play units.

They are also fairly even on the defensive side of the ball. The Lions allow the second-fewest points per game while Green Bay is 10th. Both squads are top eight against the run, which is a fascinating dynamic with both teams running the ball exceptionally well on offense.

In fact, in their last 10 matchups, these two teams are separated by just .1 yards per rush.

Green Bay and Detroit have a combined record of 30-6. Half of those losses came to NFC North foes.

Green Bay won 29-22 at Ford Field last season and the Lions are looking for payback in a statement game.

Should be a good one.

Green Bay Offense

The Packers lost at home to Detroit last month 24-14. However, the Packers largely beat themselves with a pick-6, six drops, and…
