Fantasy Football: Week 8 Waiver Wire – Tre’Quan Ready to Break Out!

Senior Fantasy Football Expert Adam Ronis pinpoints a few players to target on the waiver wire heading into Week 8 of the NFL season!

QB C.J. Beathard, San Francisco 49ers

Beathard is coming off a bad game against a Rams defense that finally played well behind a dominant performance from Aaron Donald, who had four sacks. Beathard has done a good job for Fantasy since taking over as the starter. Beathard is prone to turnovers, but he has seven touchdown passes in four games and has rushed for a touchdown. For those streaming or looking for a bye-week replacement, Beathard could be considered with the Cardinals, Raiders and Giants upcoming.

RB Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers

Matt Breida has exhibited a lot of toughness this season. A few times, it looked like he suffered a season-ending injury to bounce back and play. Breida aggravated an ankle injury on his first touch of the game Sunday and only played five snaps. Mostert had seven carries for 59 yards and caught four passes for 19 yards. The week before Mostert had 12 carries for 87 yards. After playing one snap in Week 6, Alfred Morris had nine carries for 25 yards. Mostert is the better player and even if Breida is fine for next week, Mostert has earned more touches.

RB Jalen Richard, Oakland Raiders

Marshawn Lynch is going to miss about a month with a groin injury. Doug Martin will be the primary back and he can be added also, but in PPR formats Richard is the preferred add. Richard will see a lot of snaps on passing downs and when the team plays from behind and that should be often. Richard has caught 31 of 37 targets for 253 yards. He has reached 11 points in PPR formats in four of six games and with Lynch out, Richard should see a few more carries.

RB Chris Ivory, Buffalo Bills

LeSean McCoy left Week 7 with a  head injury. His status for Week 8 is unclear. The Bills offense is not desirable, but if McCoy is out, Ivory will get a big workload. In Week 7 against the Colts, Ivory had 16 carries for 81 yards and caught three of his six targets for 25 yards. The Bills host the Patriots on Monday night.

WR Tre’Quan Smith, New Orleans Saints

Smith was mentioned as a stash and cash before the season and in the FAAB column a few times. Here’s the final reminder for those in leagues where he’s still available. Ted Ginn was placed on injured reserve last week, opening up playing time for Smith, who played 73 percent of the snaps in Week 7. Smith had three catches for 44 yards, but it was a difficult matchup against a good Ravens defense. Smith played 52 snaps and Cameron Meredith played 18 snaps with no targets.

WR Danny Amendola, Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins wide receivers have been frustrating because they spread the ball around and play at one of the slowest paces, limiting the volume of plays. Albert Wilson has a hip injury and will miss time and Kenny Stills has a groin injury and the Dolphins play Thursday against the Texans. Amendola has 18 targets the last two games as Brock Osweiler has looked for him. Amendola had six catches for 84 yards with a touchdown on seven targets in Week 7.

TE Chris Herndon, New York Jets

Herndon hasn’t been involved in the offense much. He scored a touchdown in Week 6 and saw a season-high seven targets in Week 7 against the Vikings. Herndon caught four passes for 42 yards with a touchdown. Herndon could see an increase in targets with Terrelle Pryor being released and Quincy Enunwa out with a high-ankle sprain.
