Welcome to the 2023  NFL season! To kick off another glorious campaign, the NFL schedule makers did us a solid by matching up two of the league’s top offensive clubs. The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs will host the upstart Detroit Lions. Our Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 1 breaks down all you’ll need to know for your fantasy football lineups.

With Travis Kelce ailing, there is some uncertainty about this game. That has caused some books to remove this contest altogether. However, Kansas City is still a 6.5 -point favorite. The total dipped a point to 52.5.

Subsequently, we will update our preview when there is clarity. Until then, here is FullTime Fantasy‘s Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 1 with fantasy tips, DFS picks, and our best bet.

Detroit Lions 4 8 11 4 3
Kansas City Chiefs 1 1 20 1 1

Starting in Week 2, teams playing on Thursday are disadvantaged by playing on short rest. However, that doesn’t apply in Week One. Both high-powered offenses are well-rested. This game still boasts the highest over/under total for the slate.

The fantasy football ramifications for this one can’t be understated. Both the Chiefs and Lions fielded top-5 offenses last season. Also, fantasy football rosters are peppered with skill position players from both squads.

Andy Reid is noted for success with extra time to prepare. Reid’s teams are 27-4 after a bye. The Chiefs have won eight consecutive season openers under Reid and are 9-1 overall in Week 1. In those eight victories, Kansas City has averaged a whopping 36.4 points per game.

That is going to be a real problem for Dan Campbell’s Lions. Detroit hasn’t won in Week 1 since 2017. However, that hasn’t been all bad from a fantasy perspective. Detroit might be 0-2 under Campbell in Week One, but the Lions have averaged 34 points per game.

With that history and the abundance of skill position talent on both sides, the 2023 season should get off to a bang. Subsequently, this is a game with major fantasy ramifications.

How will Thursday’s Lions vs. Chiefs game go?

Jody Smith’s 2023 Fantasy Football Sleepers

Call them sleepers, flag plants, ‘my guys’, hidden gems, or values. Targeting players who are primed to exceed their current ADP is a tried and true strategy for fantasy success. After writing up our FullTime Fantasy Sleeper of the Year, these are my personal 2023 Fantasy Football Sleepers.

Some of the players may not be considered traditional sleepers. They might be considered closer to draft-day values. However, these are players that I have been consistently targeting in drafts. Also, I believe they will exceed their current value.

For more sleepers to target, check out our deep-sleeper wide receivers, tight ends, and fades. All of this exclusive content is part of the 2023 FullTime Fantasy Draft Kit.

Now, let’s break down the 2023 fantasy football sleepers and values that I am targeting this season.

Quarterbacks

Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers) – Herbert isn’t a sleeper by any means. However, I’m including him because I feel Herbert belongs in the conversation of top-tier signal callers. The arrival of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore should do wonders for LA’s offense. Volume is already there, but I’m forecast some positive touchdown regression. Herbert is firmly my QB4, well above his FantasyPros ECR.

Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos) – Wilson was my pick for Comeback Player of the Year in my Preseaon Pro. Wilson was victimized by terrible coaching last year. The arrival of Sean Payton alleviates that concern. Off the heels of a hot December and fortified by a top-10 schedule, Wilson looks like a top-10 fantasy QB that you can often snag in the last few rounds of fantasy drafts.

Desmond Ridder (Atlanta Falcons) – Is Ridder a breakout candidate with QB1 upside? No. However…

2023 Fantasy Football Bounce-Back Players

Each fantasy season, a group of players underperformed the previous year or saw their output fall short of expectations due to injuries. A veteran player with a proven resume often has a bounce-back season the following year while having a discounted price.

Identifying these rebound players can offer fantasy football fans a huge advantage on draft day. However, the key question is: which are the best options to regain their form in 2023?

Here are the top 2023 Fantasy Football Bounce-Back Players to keep in mind on draft day.

Deshaun Watson (Cleveland Browns)

With no fantasy value in 2021 and 2022 due to his off-the-field issues, the fantasy market has forgotten how good Watson was when on top of his game. Over his final seven games in 2020, he averaged 356 combined yards with 17 touchdowns. Also, he posted a nifty 9.4 yards per pass attempt.

Watson’s top five receivers that season were Brandin Cooks (81/1,150/6), Will Fuller (53/879/8), Randall Cobb (38/441/3), Jordan Akins (37/403/1), and David Johnson (33/314/2). He turned 28 in mid-September, putting him in the prime of his career.

Last year, Cleveland’s top three receivers (Amari Cooper – 78/1,160/9, Donovan Peoples-Jones – 61/839/3, and David Njoku – 58/628/4) had productive years even with Jacoby Brissett starting 11 games. Also, the Browns added Elijah Moore and Cedric Tillman in the offseason. Plus, they also have reliable depth at tight end (Harrison Bryant and Jordan Akins) and an upside David Bell on the roster. Watson is an excellent second-tier quarterback in…

What makes their opinion so worthy? Simple. They win. Year in and year out they’re winners. While some may ask, “Why would they help me?”, there is no question that when their pride and integrity are on the line, they step up and make bold calls to help others. When we have questions on Sunday, this is who we call. We’re essentially bringing our high-stakes connections to FullTime Fantasy.

When your league is on the line, who do you trust? A magazine that contains out-of-date news? No. Those days are over. Not all experts are considered equal.

WHO IS PLAYER X?  That’s a mystery. However, we assure you that this player is a noteworthy veteran of the high-stakes community. Player X has accumulated a staggering bankroll and won multiple high-stakes titles. They’re legends among multiple high-stakes formats and in Las Vegas.

Player X also has racked up impressive wins at the Fantasy Football World Championship. While this person won’t reveal their identity, they agreed to share some of the insight and players they’ve been targeting so far in the 2023 fantasy football season.

?— BREAKOUT —

George Pickens (WR) Pittsburgh Steelers – George Pickens has a chance to be a SUPERSTAR in this league if he is given the volume to succeed.  He makes catches and plays that other players physically cannot make and he does it routinely.

Pickens has a Randy Moss-esque star power about him and the tools to play like him, it just comes down to Kenny Pickett feeding him the ball. A quick search on social media will show some of the eye-opening plays that the sophomore wideout has already made in training camp.

Also, Having Diontae Johnson on the other side with TE Pat Freiermuth in the middle means defenses cannot have a singular focus to stop Pickens and anytime he has 1-1 coverage, the ball MUST go his way.  And if it does, you are seeing a potential top-10 fantasy wide receiver. ..

WHO WILL BE PLAYER X’S SLEEPER, BUST, COMEBACK, AND LATE-ROUND STATSH FOR THE UPCOMING FANTASY FOOTBALL SEASON?
