Before you lock: These are Mat Harrison’s Thursday, October 15 early-week picks. Confirm Fanball eligibility, salaries, prize rules, the final injury report and inactives. The Packers–Cowboys Sunday night game is outside a standard Sunday main slate; Jordan Love is a play only in a contest that includes it. Henderson’s ankle, receiver availability and the passing-game injury situations below can change the value calls.

Quarterbacks

Matthew Stafford ($6,400) vs. ARI

Stafford has had 4 straight 300-yard games and 9 TDs in the last 4 weeks. He's thrown 50 or more passes in 3 straight weeks. He probably won't need to throw 50 passes against Arizona, but he'll still make you money. The Cardinals are facing the 3rd-fewest pass attempts this year, at just under 28 per game, but they're allowing the 9th-most passing yards and the 3rd-most passing scores.

Tyler Shough ($6,200) @ NYG

Prior to his 96-yard, two-INT outing against an elite Vikings D, Shough had a Top 8 QB finish in three of his first four games. He also had at least 34 pass attempts and 250 yards in every game before last. Through five weeks, Cam Ward is the only quarterback who failed to score multiple TDs on the Giants D. Further helping the game environment is the Saints' atrocious defense, which is the worst run D in the league, and New Orleans plays at the fastest pace in the league, meaning more opportunities for stats.

Jordan Love ($6,000) vs. DAL — Sunday night only, if your contest includes it

Packers/Cowboys is a Sunday night hammer if your particular Fanball contest includes it; standard Sunday main slates typically exclude the night game. It has one of the week's higher totals. Green Bay has next to zero run game and now gets a Cowboys defense that just held a players-only meeting (Week 6, oof). In two career games against Dallas, Love averaged over 300 yards and threw for 3 TDs in each meeting. The Packers don't have the corners to slow Lamb and Pickens down, so I expect a lot of fireworks from both sides. Green Bay's OL has rebounded from the worst nonsense I've ever seen to just solidly below average. Further helping there is the lack of Dallas pass rush, as they have the 2nd-fewest sacks in the league.

Jameis Winston ($5,600) vs. NO

I used Famous Jameis in this spot exactly last week, and it worked! He went 326 and 3 against Washington and added 27 ground yards, too. This week he gets a Saints defense that, let me say this as lovingly as a Vikings fan can, made the Vikings and Kyler Murray look pretty good last week. Now, the Saints have been in a ton of high-scoring games this year: they allowed 31 to the Lions, 35 to the Raiders and 45 to the Falcons. Not all of that has been the pass, but Kirko Chainz mustered 248 and 3 a few weeks back.

Running Backs

Bijan Robinson ($9,000) vs. CHI

The matchup for Bijan looks difficult on paper, as Chicago is a Top 10 defense against RBs this year, but a closer look reveals that has much more to do with the schedule than an actual good Bears D. They've faced one top-half-of-the-league running game, in Minnesota, and that game was played in maybe the nastiest weather of the year so far. Bijan is a horse with at least 20 touches in every game and is averaging over 6 yards per touch. Michael Penix did practice Wednesday, which is a good sign for his Sunday availability. If Tua starts, I think I'll go elsewhere at RB.

Kyren Williams ($7,300) vs. ARI

I mentioned that the Cards were seeing not a lot of pass attempts. Well, they're meeting the most rushing attempts, 26 per game, which means they're bottom 10 in rush yards and combo yards allowed to the position. Weirdly, they don't give up anything through the air to opposing backs, so Kyren might not keep up that 5.4 receptions per game average he's been sporting. Still, he's averaging a TD per game. I don't even think Blake Corum is a bad play in this one if you need to get cheap somewhere.

Cam Skattebo ($6,200) vs. NO

Skattebo has been way more miss than hit this year. He has only scored once, in the opener, and he hasn't topped the 60-rushing-yard mark in any of the last 4 weeks. Still, the volume is good: 16, 23, 19 and 15 touches during that four-game stretch. And while some of those matchups were decidedly not tough, this is not the toughest matchup in the league. The Saints defense is the worst run D in the league, and it's not particularly close. They're bottom 3 in basically every rushing category, including 5.1 yards per carry allowed, and they've allowed the most combo yards at 161 per game and the most touchdowns to opposing backs at 10 so far, which is 2 per game. They're slightly better against pass-catching backs, which could help neutralize some of Devin Singletary's touches, too. If not now for Skattebo, when?

Rhamondre Stevenson ($6,200) vs. NYJ

TreVeyon Henderson left Week 5 with a high-ankle sprain and was limited in Wednesday's practice. His status remains a key pre-lock check. If he sits, Rhamondre should lead the backfield, with Corey Kiner the primary alternative for touches. It's a good matchup, as the Jets have allowed the 7th-most rushing yards and are bottom half of the league in both catches and yards given up to backs. This is despite already having faced some truly anemic rushing attacks like Tennessee and Green Bay.

Wide Receivers

Puka Nacua ($8,400) vs. ARI

Puka is averaging an otherworldly 15 targets, 10 receptions, and 112 yards per game. The matchup this week says he'll face off against Max Melton, whose nickname is Chernobyl, because he's Max Melton down. I'm mostly kidding. He's been Arizona's best cover corner so far, but he's no match for Puka. He did give up a JSN touchdown in his coverage in Week 2, though, and the Cardinals as a whole have allowed the most WR touchdowns in the league this year.

Malik Nabers ($6,900) vs. NO

While we can't expect Nabers to get TWENTY targets again, he is in a great spot against a Saints pass defense that's been shredded by No. 1 WRs: 10-67-2 for Amon-Ra, 7-88-1 for Rashod Bateman with Zay out, London 5-96, and Justin Jefferson 6-79-1. Brock Bowers, essentially Vegas' No. 1 WR, went 10-116-1. Over the past two weeks, only Puka and Tet McMillan have higher target shares than Nabers' 34%. Lastly, here's a great stat courtesy of Yahoo's Joel Smyth: Nabers has a 39% first-read target share the last two weeks, and Jameis Winston throws to the first read 75% of the time, the third-highest rate in the NFL.

Xavier Worthy ($4,200) vs. LAC

This is mostly an attrition play. With Tyquan Thornton out and Rashee Rice not expected to play, Worthy leads a WR corps consisting of 5th-round rookie Cyrus Allen and 2025 4th-rounder Jalen Royals. The latter two have combined for 5 career catches. Worthy's role has been solid, with at least 6 targets in all but one game this season. I expect a heavy target share for him. My only hesitation here is that the Chargers' O is so broken that KC can just sit on the ball and grind the game out.

Kendrick Bourne ($4,000) @ LAR

So, Marvin Harrison is gone, as he was last week. Who benefited? It was Kendrick Bourne, who led all WRs in targets with 8. He caught 5 of them for 70 yards. And while Marv wasn't doing a ton, you couldn't not cover him at all, and it's plausible that defenses will shift their coverage to cover Michael Wilson the most. You're going to pick your garbage-time spots for Bourne, and this seems to be one of them. BTW, almost exactly a year ago, as a member of the 49ers, Kendrick Bourne had 10 catches for 142 yards against the Rams. And LA has allowed a secondary WR touchdown in 4 of 5 games this season.

Tight Ends

Isaiah Likely ($5,300) vs. NO

Likely comes off a huge 11-94-2 effort in Week 5 against Washington. He's averaging just shy of double-digit targets per game, with 48 targets through five weeks. New Orleans has permitted the 3rd-most catches and the 7th-most yards to enemy TEs. Very few tight ends have the kind of ceiling that Likely has. If Likely was a WR, he might be closer to $6,500 or so, considering that elite volume. Between Likely and Nabers, the pair combined for a whopping 61% target share in Week 5. Kinda quietly, Likely is the No. 2 overall TE this year, just behind Trey McBride.

Dallas Goedert ($4,500) vs. CAR

Goedert returned to service in last week's London game. He only managed a measly 38 yards, but he did catch 6 balls and had 9 targets. And with the mounting injuries all over the Philadelphia offense, including every running back they have and Devonta Smith, who they're hoping can play this week, Jalen Hurts just needs someone he can count on to pepper with targets, and last week it was Goedert leading the way. Goedert has been a touchdown magnet at points in his career, and the Panthers are allowing a touchdown per game to the tight end position. Before their bye, Harold Fannin went for 7-51 and two touchdowns, and Sam LaPorta gouged them for 8-84 and a score.

Tyler Higbee ($3,700) vs. ARI

Higbee has had at least 5 receptions and 60 yards in three straight weeks. Even with Colby Parkinson returning last week, it didn't cut into Higbee's targets or snap share, as the Rams play about ⅔ of their snaps with two tight ends on the field. Plus, Davis Allen looks like he might not play this week, and Terrance Ferguson is still out. You pick your spots with Higbee, and this is one of them. The Cards have allowed a TE touchdown in 3 straight weeks, and a TE has topped 65 yards in 3 straight weeks as well.

Charlie Kolar ($3,000) @ KC

Another attrition play and savings play so we can mash in Puka and Bijan. Kolar is min-price and actually led the team in receiving yards last week. He also has a better role than fellow TE Oronde Gadsden, having out-snapped Gadsden 51-39 and run the most routes of any TE. Kansas City is bottom 7 in catches, yards, and touchdowns allowed to the position despite already having had their bye week. We just need so little from him for this to pay off. Also of note here, Ladd, Quentin Johnston, and Tre Harris are all limited or not practicing, further narrowing the targets.

Sleepers

Tony Pollard, RB ($5,000) @ IND

He did miss Wednesday's practice, but they're calling it a rest day. There's a possibility that Pollard could be traded, though, and might be a surprise inactive on Sunday if that's the case. But I'm assuming he's active and playing against Indy on Sunday. Tyjae Spears is still battling through an ankle injury and now a new knee injury. He'll still probably go in this one, but Pollard is getting all the work: 21, 18 and 14 touches for Pollard in the last 3 weeks, compared to 3, 3 and 11 for Spears. The Colts are allowing 4.7 yards per carry, 6th-worst in the league, and 153 combo yards per game, the 2nd-worst mark in the league. 100 combo yards should be on the table for Pollard at $5K.

Germie Bernard, WR ($3,400) @ TB

The second-round rookie led the Steelers with 9 targets last week, turning that workload into 6-80. Maybe the biggest reason for optimism was Aaron Rodgers' effusive praise for Bernard after the game. Rodgers had Bernard take a test on coverages, down and distances, and hand signals before the game, and apparently he aced it. Normally, stuff like that is pretty worthless, but we have 20 years of evidence with Rodgers that he will not give you the ball if he doesn't like or trust you. Bernard ran the same number of routes as DK Metcalf last week, which is important with Michael Pittman on IR.
