David Price has a history of pitching poorly against the Yankees. The Red Sox left-hander got the job done Sunday night to help the Red Sox avoid the sweep. One of the best power hitters in baseball has hit the IL. Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo was placed on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain. It’s a significant loss considering Gallo has exceeded expectations with a .276 average after batting in the low .200s the last few seasons with a .421 on-base percentage. Gallo has 41 runs, 17 home runs, 41 RBIs and a 1.074 OPS. Danny Santana will get more playing time for the Rangers, and outfielder Delino DeShields was called up.
It’s not often you walk seven batters and don’t allow a run. Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright did it Sunday and went eight innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. He threw 70 of his 126 pitches for strikes. He has a 4.34 ERA and 1.37 WHIP.
Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer was dominant on Sunday, striking out 15 over eight innings and allowing three hits, one run, and one walk. Scherzer is 3-5 with a 3.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 117:18 K:BB ratio in 85.1 innings.
Brewers pitcher Zach Davies continues to pitch well despite underwhelming peripherals. Davies pitched eight innings and allowed eight hits, two runs, one walk and struck out three. He is 6-0 with a 2.20 ERA.

John Gant got the final two outs for the Cardinals on Sunday in a 2-1 win for his third save of the season. Jordan Hicks started the ninth but allowed a hit, one walk and a run and was pulled. Gant has a 1.15 ERA in 31.1 innings and could see some saves if Hicks continues to struggle.
Cubs shortstop Javier Baez returned to the lineup Sunday after missing Saturday with a heel injury he suffered last week and went 0-for-4. He has eight hits in his previous 43 at-bats with 20 strikeouts.

The Phillies acquired first baseman/outfielder Jay Bruce from the Mariners for infielder Jake Scheiner and cash considerations. The Mariners will receive $18 million to cover the $21.6 million that is owed Bruce until the end of 2020. Bruce is expected to see time in left field against right-handed pitching.
Brewers second baseman Mike Moustakas sat on Sunday after he was hit on the hand Saturday and has a fractured right finger.

Rangers pitcher Adrian Sampson struck out a career-high 11 over seven innings and allowed eight hits, no walks, and one run. He has a 4.14 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.
Mariners pitcher Marco Gonzales was shelled for nine runs and ten hits over 4.2 innings against the Angels and allowed six runs in four innings the start before to raise his ERA from 3.41 to 4.89.
