Melvin Gordon to return “at some point”

The latest news update in the Melvin Gordon story points to his eventual return around mid-season. What is a fantasy owner to do?

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon

Melvin Gordon will end holdout “at some point”

NEWS: A report out of ESPN says, “This is not a Le’Veon Bell situation … He still wants to be a Charger. But he’s got to protect himself.”

ANALYSIS: The idea here is that Melvin Gordon wants to accrue a season towards his contract, which would make him a free agent in 2020. The rule is six weeks so that means he can return after Week 10 and still count this season. The problem now is that the Chargers are doing just fine without him it seems. OK, it’s been only one game but we already knew Austin Ekeler could perform both as a runner and pass-catcher given his body of work last season.

I would test the waters with your league’s Gordon owner and just take the temperature of how willing he is to part with him. Never know how much a fantasy owner is paying attention! It’s a risky move to use a roster slot on an inactive player, but Gordon is a RB1 caliber player. He could be a league-winning acquisition to your fantasy roster.
