CFL: Week 12 DFS Plays

CFL Week 12

The purpose of this article is to help break down the weekly CFL slate by offering insight into the players to help formulate the best lineup possible. It is imperative that you check on injury statuses before each game since it can change at any notice. I’ll list several players that I like at each position but then have my full player pool listed below.

  • 3 Game Slate this week with the slate starting on Sunday!

Matchups

WPG @ SSK

TOR @ HAM

EDM @ CGY

QB

Trevor Harris (10.5k)- I know the Stamps have had the Eskimos number for quite some time but with Edmonton finally fully healthy with their WR group, Harris is finally able to let it rip all over the field. Over their last 3 games, Calgary has been allowing opposing QBs to throw 38 times while accumulating 313 passings yards and 1.3 passing TDs per game. In his first matchup against Calgary, Harris went for over 300 passing yards and 2 TDs so I think he could be relied on for both GP and Cash game contests this week.

Cody Fajardo (10.4k)- I do like Fajardo this week if trying to be contrarian and have lower ownership at the QB position. He has put up 20+ DK point performances in 2 of his last 4 games and gets an opportunity to face a Winnipeg team that will not have their traditional firepower on the offensive side. Over their last 3 games, Winnipeg has allowed opposing QBs to average over 300 yards but are still stingy in the red zone, allowing opposing QBs to throw less than 1 passing TD per game. I would use Fajardo in GPP contests this week instead of cash games.

Dane Adams (8.8k)- EVans does not have the upside that Masoli has so he is a tough one to figure out. What makes this play attractive is his price, opponent and his receivers. Toronoto is allowing opposing QBs to average 308 passings yards per game while throwing for 2 TDs over their last 3 games which bodes well for Evans. The problem is that Evans has not really shown much of a ceiling (Eclipsed 20 DK points in his last 4 starts). To me, Evans is a safer cash game play and worth a stab in a GPP but I wouldn’t go fully heavy due to the lack of upside he has shown.

RB

John Augustin (3.5k)- WPG RB Andrew Harris is suspended for 2 games for testing positive for an illegal substance….I am still trying to wrap my head around this news. While he is out for 2 games, John Augustin will most likely draw the start which opens up a lot of salary space. Yes, SSK is one of the top defences in the league but WPG likes to run a balanced offence which means Augustin will see plenty of carries which makes him a near lock at his low price.

Cam Marshall (5.6k)- Hamilton really played with us last week by listing Coombs as the starting RB only to give the majority of the carries to Marshall. Marshall has seen back to back double digit carry games which only leads us to believe that he will be the featured back until STE is back in the mix from his injury. I do like the matchup this week since Hamilton should win and be up on Toronto which means Marshall could see more volume in the 2nd half of the game. Over their last 3 games, the Args are surrendering 115 rushing yards per game as well as allowing 2 rushing TDs per game as well. Make sure to lock in Marshall this weekend!

William Powell (9.5k)- I think Powell is more of a tournament play than anything else this weekend. The matchup is certainly not ideal since the Blue Bombers have one of the toughest fronts in all of the CFL. I think it will be a close game, especially with Andrew Harris out so if SSK can get out to an early lead, they will want to feature Powell and establish a good ground game to keep the Winnipeg offence on the sidelines as long as possible.

Brandon Burks (5.4k)- In limited touches, Burks has been performing well from a fantasy standpoint. He has 3 straight games with double digit point totals despite carrying the rock only 16 times in a 3 game span. I am sure game script is partly the reason for the low number of carries but what is encouraging is seeing him record 12 catches in that 3 game span as well. Hamilton has done a great job limiting opponents through the air but still tend to struggle against opposing backs so I think if Burks gets a decent volume of carries and targets, he could go for 15+ points.

WR

Davaris Daniels (7.8k) – Daniels is somehow under 8k and I will continue to lock him into lineups if his price remains in this area. Daniels has seen a ton of volume over his last 3 games (32 targets) while hauling in 21 catches for 416 receiving yards. Daniels missed the matchup against the Stamps earlier this season so having him back in the lineup will only make the matchup better for Trevor Harris and company.

Bralon Addison (9k) – I definitely want to get some Hamilton exposure this week and it might be time to hop off the Banks train and hop on board the Addison train. He has built some rapport with Dane Evans over the last several weeks seeing 30 targets over a 3 game span (7 more than Banks). He is $1,200 cheaper and still offers consistent double digit performance upside in a matchup that favors Hamilton.

Naaman Roosevelt (5.6k)- Mr. Roosevelt is finally starting to find a spot in this Roughriders offence. He has seen 20 targets over his last 3 games while hauling in 13 of those for 139 yards and a TD. I think the Winnipeg defence will have their hands full with containing Powell, Moore, and Evans so Roosevelt could be a sneaky underneath option for this week for Fajardo.

D/ST

Hamilton- A top defence vs. one of the weaker offences in the CFL……need I say more? Last time Hamilton played the Args, they put up 23 on defence. THey are able to create turnovers and get after the QB so they are the safest D/ST to use this week in all contests.

SSK (5.4k)- Normally I don’t like to use opposing defences against Winnipeg but this seems like the spot to consider SSK. Winnipeg will be without Andrew Harris, Matt Nichols and CHris Matthews (Due to being released) so that is a ton of production that will be missed this weekend. Chris Streveler can be a great fantasy QB due to the yardage he can rack up on the ground but he is just average when it comes to throwing the ball so his arm doesn’t scare me like others would. SSK would be my GPP D/ST to use if you aren’t spending up for the Hamilton D.
