2019 Fantasy Baseball: Weekend Recap (May 20)

It's time for the latest edition of our Fantasy Baseball weekend recap from Senior Fantasy Baseball Expert Adam Ronis to look back before we look forward.

Shane Bieber tends to throw a lot of strikes, and he pounded the strike zone Sunday. The Indians pitcher struck out a career-high 15 and threw 75-of-107 pitches for strikes in a win over the Orioles. He went the distance and allowed five hits, no runs, and no walks.

Shane BieberBieber allowed four home runs in his previous outing against the White Sox. He has a 3.22 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 69:13 K:BB ratio in 58.2 innings.

Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara took advantage of the Mets offensive ineptitude by throwing a two-hit shutout with one walk and eight strikeouts, needing just 89 pitches. The Mets had three hits in the final two games of the series. Alcantara has a 4.25 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 36:24 K:BB ratio.

Josh Bell went 3-for-4 with two home runs Saturday and had another hit and RBI Sunday. He is batting .333 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig is day-to-day with a right shoulder sprain. He jumped into the crowd to make a catch and hurt his shoulder.

Coming off a 17-strike performance, Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale had a tough test against the Astros. He allowed three runs on four hits, walked five and struck out ten in a no-decision. He has a 4.31 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and an 83:16 K:BB ratio in 56.1 innings.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is heating up and hit his seventh homer in the last 16 games Sunday night. He has 11 home runs.

If you were wondering who the closer is for the Cubs, it’s clear manager Joe Maddon believes Steve Cishek is the guy. He came into the game Sunday night in the seventh inning with a man on base and got Anthony Rendon to ground out. Cishek pitched the final two innings to get his fourth save. He threw 27 pitches. Rendon hit a three-run homer earlier in the game is batting .331 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs.

Cubs shortstop Javier Baez left Sunday night’s game with a heel contusion and is day-to-day.

Giants closer Will Smith struck out the side for his 12th save.

Pirates closer Felipe Vasquez struck out three in his 13th save.

Astros outfielder George Springer left Sunday’s game with back stiffness and is day-to-day.

Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper is finally heating up. He went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs Sunday and is 7-for-20 with three doubles and two home runs over the last five games.

Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu continues to be one of the best starters in baseball with seven scoreless innings and allowed five hits and struck out five. He has thrown 31 consecutive scoreless innings and has a 1.52 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and a 59:4 K:BB ratio.

Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger went 1-for-3 with a walk and two-run homer Sunday. He has 17 home runs.

Blue Jays closer Ken Giles recorded four outs to get his tenth save Sunday. He has a 1.40 ERA and a 31:5 K:BB ratio in 19.1 innings.

Blue Jays third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered for the fourth time in six games and has a line of .235/.325/.441.

Pat Neshek picked up a save Sunday for the Phillies after Hector Neris got saves Friday and Saturday, including throwing two innings Saturday.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman homered for the fourth consecutive game Sunday. He has a line of .318/.408/.581 with 11 home runs.

Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich hit his 19th homer Sunday. He leads the majors in home runs.

Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor missed the start of the season with calf and ankle injuries, but it hasn’t slowed his ability to run. He stole his fifth base in 26 games and went 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles.

Brewers second baseman Keston Hiura went 2-for-4 with his first major league home run Sunday and has a .250/.333/.375 in 27 plate appearances.

Ryan McMahon appeared to be in danger of losing playing time with Brendan Rodgers getting called up from the minors Friday. The Rockies second baseman went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs Sunday. He is hitting .260 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 104 at-bats.

Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz had one of his better starts with six innings and allowed three hits, two runs, no walks and struck out three in a no-decision against the Brewers. He has allowed ten home runs in 27.2 innings.

Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger could begin a rehab assignment after two or three bullpen sessions. He is ahead of schedule as he works his way back from an upper back strain.

Astros second baseman Jose Altuve will likely need a rehab assignment this week before being activated.

Yankees pitcher James Paxton threw a 20-pitch bullpen session with a brace Sunday and still feels some inflammation in his left knee. Paxton believes after a bullpen session Tuesday he will be able to return this week.

The Phillies activated Scott Kingery from the IL Sunday, and he started in centerfield.

Twins third baseman Miguel Sano hit his first homer of the season Saturday.

Aaron NolaPhillies pitcher Aaron Nola struck out a career-high 12 Saturday and allowed one run in six innings.

Rays third baseman Yandy Diaz is day-to-day with a left hand contusion after being hit by a pitch.

The game between the A’s and Tigers was suspended with the A’s leading 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh. The game will be picked up Sept. 6 in Oakland.

Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius is scheduled to play in extended spring training games Monday.

Brewers second baseman Travis Shaw is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday.

Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is targeting a return from the IL on May 24.

Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson threw six scoreless innings in his third minor league rehab start at Triple-A. He is expected to need one more rehab start before joining the Brewers.

The White Sox sent OF Nicky Delmonico to Triple-A.
