The Dongers Club – Thu 5/16 Afternoon

... brought to you by sdchickens

Double dip Thursday MLB DFS with two slates today.  Early slate is four games and is jam packed with some good ones that appear to have no weather issues.

The evening slate is five games and FantasyBum will have a “MAIN” article for the night slate.  I will do an article covering my plays for the night capper but to be totally honest with you I cannot stand 10 of the pitchers on the night slate, so I am very likely to take a wild stand on one guy and play the game theory route on the main slate if thats what my analysis fully warrants.  FB will have the full detailed breakdown and congrats to the person who quickly did the math and realized that I hate all 10 pitchers tonight.  But this article is for the day slate, so lets focus on that, shall we?

Spencer Turnbull … There is a weird scheduling situation today as the Oakland Athletics had Wednesday off and now play a road day game in Detroit.  Detroit has a long standing tradition of having Thursday afternoon home games and they do it even to start series off like they will do today.  Spencer has pitched well this year showing a +FB, +SL and a really +CHG giving him three pitches he can rely upon which is always a strong measurement for a starter to be considered someone to trust.  It’s a team in Oakland who comes in with Matt Olson healthy and Khris Davis finally appearing to wake up but of our choices early I trust Spencer the most to get 5+ innings, limited damage and over a K/IP.  He also carries the lower ownership since most folks will want to roll Bassit against the Tigers, which on DraftKings is a viable option.

SP2:  Chris Bassit

Why am I not on Anibal Sanchez?   Too much risk for Anibal in my mind.  Low K rates and likely either is pulled early or loses lead due to a terrible bullpen.

The wind and temps in Kansas City should really help an already prime hitting spot for both of those teams and that’s where we start today.

TEXAS RANGERS vs KANSAS CITY ROYALS

Lance Lynn is a heavy splits pitcher who should be attacked with left handed bats.  The Royals core lefties will include Gordon, Mondesi (S), O’Hearn and rookie Nicky Lopez who remains extremely good value.  I personally don’t mind using Hunter Dozier in this spot either.

For Texas, they draw Homer Bailey who started off really well this year but has since come crashing back down to earth.  I can’t see Homer pitching extremely well here again today and would go right back to Choo, Mazara and depending on who bats where Calhoun/Odor at second will be the good value plays.  All that said, Joey Gallo is a must for me.

SNEAKY

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES …

Bryce Harper is hitting rock bottom and will start to get going this weekend.  It starts today with an afternoon game where he has been flipped into the two hole with Jean Segura behind him.  I like Franco to go yard today as well with upside at a position that looks sexy w/ Dozier and Rendon but we need value somewhere and Franco fits the bill.

Franco, Harper, Segura

CATCHER

  1. Kurt Suzuki
  2. JT Realmuto

FIRST BASE

  1. Matt Olson:  Unique play on a 4 game slate would be Matt Olson, who is criminally underpriced at $3800 in the same lineup as Turnbull.
  2. Ryan O’Hearn

SECOND BASE

  1. Nicky Lopez
  2. Robinson Cano
  3. Rougned Odor/Willie Calhoun:   Same price range, so take the one higher in the order

THIRD BASE

  1. Hunter Dozier
  2. Anthony Rendon:  Kills Mets pitching
  3. Maikel Franco

SHORTSTOP

  1. Raul Mondesi
  2. Ronny Rodriguez

OUTFIELD – Tier 1

  1. Harper, Bryce
  2. Ryan Braun
  3. Joey Gallo:  As you should know Gallo’s power with 80+ degree temps and double digit winds is good enough for a 2 HR game.
  4. Alex Gordon:  Heart of the order
  5. Shin-Soo Choo

OUTFIELD – Value

  1. Nomar Mazara
  2. Willie Calhoun:  Better to be used in the OF on DK
  3. Michael A. Taylor
  4. Brandon Nimmo:  Suzuki sucks at throwing guys out

Getting a pitcher from the DET-OAK game feels like the way to go today and should be popular choices.  I personally lean to lock in on hitters from two games, pitchers from another and fade the 4th.

When in doubt at a position, take the top player ranked above.

  1. Joey Gallo – OF – Texas Rangers – Chairman of the Dongers Club
  2. Ryan Braun – OF – Brewers
  3. Ryan O’Hearn – 1B – Royals
  4. Michael A. Taylor – OF – Nationals
  5. Robinson Cano – 2B – Mets

BETS

  • Phillies ML
  • Brewers/Phillies OVER
  • Royals/Rangers OVER
  • Athletics/Tigers UNDER
