CFL DFS: Week 13 Preview

Week 12 Review:

Week 12 was a very good week overall for CFL. The Ottawa chalk did not hit so if you did not play Harris, your lines had a chance. Hamilton went off and we see a repeat of 3 games this week, so this should be a little easier to distinguish the plays for this upcoming week. We saw some big-name players go down with injury so week 13 should be filled with some strong value options.

Week 13

QB

Masoli is the top QB on the slate in terms of price and he is my top QB play for this week! Masoli just torched this Toronto defense, throwing for 385 yards and 3 touchdowns. Toronto has been one of the worst passing defenses all season long so the trend to pick on their passing defense continues. He lost one of his top receivers last week in Jalen Saunders, but I think pairing him with Banks or Tasker can be a very good strategy for this weekend’s slate!

I think Bo Levi Mitchell is one of the better options at the QB position this week. He had a very average game last week throwing for 255 yards and 1 touchdown, but more will be asked of him this week since they will be on the road in Edmonton. BLM does offer some salary relief if you are not wanting to pay up for Masoli and he can get to 20+ DK points. Edmonton’s pass defense has been stingy in the red zone allowing only 1 touchdown per game over the last 3 games, but they have also been giving up yardage, allowing 302 yards per game in that same stretch. I think he could be a good pivot if not wanting to spend up. The only downside to using BLM is that he could be without running back Don Jackson and star wide receiver Kamar Jorden who both suffered injuries last game.

RB

Alex Green has been the most consistent fantasy player over the past several weeks. He has 7 rushing touchdowns in just 4 games so obviously Hamilton is committed to Green as their lead back in addition committing to the run game. Green is still under priced min my opinion since he is still under 8k, so this is an easy plug and play. He should see a high volume this week since they should be able to get up early on Toronto and then run the ball in the second half of the game.

Don Jackson/ Terry Williams/ Romar Morris- Don Jackson was spotted in a walking boot after tweaking his ankle last weekend. If he is out, we could see some extreme value open up with either Terry Williams or Romar Morris taking over the starting running back spot for this game this weekend. Williams is only $4,100 and allows you to really have options when it comes to the rest of your lineup construction. Morris is not listed in the DK player pool so pay attention to the Calgary depth chart when it comes out on Friday!

If you are looking for a play that will be lower owned, you could take a stab at Jeremiah Johnson. Johnson when healthy has been a very tough match for most defenses. He has a powerful running style and is a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield. Ottawa has been allowing opposing running backs to get some yardage on them, averaging 117 yards per game over their last 3 games so Johnson could be a good option to get around the herd this weekend.

WR (Should be a fun week to use them!)

Normally I do not take opposing wide receivers against the Calgary defense but for this week, I will make an exception! Derel Walker suffered an injury and it sounds like he will not be good to go for this upcoming weekend. Duke Williams will have to step up and be the top guy which means play him! (The way Renner feels about Junis and the way Rose feels about Mikolas in MLB is the way I feel about Duke Williams right about now). With Walker going down, this also creates some opportunities for Stafford but even more importantly, Bryant Mitchell! If Mitchell gets the start, I will be using him as my value play for the weekend.

The Hamilton wide receiving options have become simple over the past couple of weeks. Play Banks and play Tasker! Masoli is relying on these two targets the most so no need to overthink it. They are both coming off big weeks and get the same matchup so make sure to get one of these guys in your lineup! If you are in a large gpp field and want to be different, take a stab on Mike Jones.

Calgary can offer some other unique options for this weekend as well. Jorden went down with an injury and he will most likely be out so Davaris Daniels will be the big-name target for the Stamps. His price has jumped up, so we will need a 20+ point outing from him to keep up with some of the bigger named receivers if you decide to go this route. Reggie Begelton could be inserted back into the starting lineup, so he could be another value option down at $3,700.

Other receivers that can be used as one-offs could be Kevin Elliott from BC and Jordan Williams-Lambert from SSK. Elliott is priced in the low 5k range and has been one of the top targets for this Lions offense over the past few weeks. Williams-Lambert’s price has increased since he has posted 3 straight double-digit performances, so he can be relied on as a solid option for this Roughriders offense. If wanting exposure to Ottawa, Ellingson is finally seeing a strong number of targets but with all 3 receiving options healthy, it is tough to pinpoint who will get fed in that Redblacks offense. With all of this being said, there is no need to really reach at this position since we can probably grab some good value and mix it with some top with some stud options from the first couple of receiving corps that I listed.

Def.-

It’s hard to pass up on the SSK defense again but at only $4,600, they will be my go-to defense yet again. I will say that they are a little tougher play this week since they will be going on the road to Winnipeg so it’s not as safe of a play like it was last week.
