Week 15 DFS: Wide Receiver Report

Deebo Samuel (34.00) led last week in fantasy points after taking home the runner-up prize the previous week (35.80). Drake London (29.20) posted his best game of the season to finish second, followed by D.J. Moore (26.80) and Cooper Kupp (25.50). Only four other wideouts scored 20.00 fantasy points or more. Eight of the top 10 wide receivers for the week ranked outside the top 20 in scoring in PPR formats coming into Week 14. Here are the best five players by scoring average after 14 weeks:

  • Tyreek Hill (24.93)
  • CeeDee Lamb (21.90)
  • Keenan Allen (21.57)
  • A.J. Brown (19.75)
  • Ja’Marr Chase (18.49)

Elite Option

CeeDee Lamb, DAL (DK – $9,200/FD – $9,200)

Over his last five games at home, Lamb had 45 catches for 605 yards and seven touchdowns on 64 targets, highlighted by his play in Week 8 (12/170/2), Week 10 (11/165/2), and Week 13 (12/146/1). He has a touchdown in five straight games (six totals). He is on pace to catch 126 passes for 1,748 yards and 12 touchdowns on 171 targets.

Buffalo sits 13th vs. wideouts (156/1,741/12 on 224 targets), with only two teams (JAC – 20/223/1 and CIN – 16/216) gaining more than 200 yards. CB Taron Johnson (42/364/3 on 53 targets per PFF) handles most of the Bills’ coverage out of the slots, where Lamb lines up on about 60% of his snaps.

The Cowboys’ top wide receiver has been tremendous over his last eight games. Lamb’s matchup isn’t ideal. But he should have an edge over all of the Bills’ cornerbacks. His salary is now top-shelf, requiring almost 37.00 fantasy points to be in the DFS mix in Week 15. Finally, this matchup has a chance of rain with temperatures in the high 40s.

Cooper Kupp, LAR (DK – $7,800/FD – $8,200)

Week 15 DFS: Running Back Report

The running back position remains inconsistent from week to week in all markets. Ezekiel Elliott seized his starting opportunity to lead the NFL in scoring (27.00 fantasy points) in Week 14. Breece Hall (26.60) took home the silver medal, followed by James Cook (25.10) and Saquon Barkley (24.10). All four players ranked outside the top 10 at running back before last week. Here are the top five running backs by scoring average after 14 weeks:

  • Christian McCaffrey (24.11)
  • Raheem Mostert (18.34)
  • Travis Etienne (17.45)
  • Rachaad White (15.80)
  • Alvin Kamara (15.59)

Elite Option

Christian McCaffrey, SF (DK – $9,300/FD – $10,500)

Last week, McCaffrey busted a 72-yard run on the 49ers’ first play. Unfortunately, San Francisco gave him the next play off, leading to Jordan Mason sniping the touchdown on the next play. He finished with a productive day in yards (153) but only one catch and no scores. His streak of scoring at least 20.00 fantasy points ended at six games. The 49ers had him on the field for 89% of their plays. McCaffrey’s best outing came in Week 4 (20/106/3 with seven catches for 71 yards and one touchdown) against the Cardinals. After 13 games, he has 17 touchdowns.

Arizona ranks 31st in running back defense (27.93 FPPG), with two disaster showings (SF – 53.70 and LAR – 52.70 fantasy points). Backs scored 18 touchdowns, with some success catching the ball (61/382/6). Four teams rushed for more than 175 yards. Opponents average 31.4 rushes per game while gaining 4.4 yards per carry.

The scoring in the 49ers is all about the cycle of their four best players. McCaffrey has an elite opportunity in snaps and touches, and this matchup points to multiple touchdowns. He looks poised to score 30+ fantasy points while being challenging to fit into a winning lineup.

Lamar Jackson (35.80) led the league in fantasy points in Week 15, lifting him to fourth in quarterback scoring (295.10). Desmond Ridder (29.85) posted his best game of the season, placing him second for the week, followed by Jake Browning (27.45) and Justin Fields (26.95). Eleven other quarterbacks scored more than 20.00 fantasy points. Here are the top five quarterbacks by scoring average after 14 weeks:

Top-Tier Options

Jalen Hurts, PHI (DK – $8,100/FD – $8,800)

The Eagles completed a challenging five-game stretch (DAL, @KC, BUF, SF, and @DAL), where they went 3-2. Over this span, Hurts averaged 210 passing yards with six touchdowns. He helped his floor with success in the run game (48/180/6). His best value in fantasy points came in Week 4 (31.35), Week 8 (31.55), and Week 12 (38.50). When at his best, Hurts attempted more than 35 passes (six times). 

The Seahawks rank 22nd defending quarterbacks (20.75 FPPG), with one team scoring more than 30.00 fantasy points (DAL – 322/3). Five teams (LAR – 334/0, DET – 323/3, CAR – 361/2, WAS – 312/3, and SF – 368/2) passed for more than 300 yards. Their defense has risk at times vs. running quarterbacks (NYG – 10/66, ARI – 7/43/1, and BAL – 14/68). In addition, running backs scored 16 of their 36 offensive touchdowns allowed. Seattle’s defense gave up 13 touchdowns and three field goals over 35 possessions by their opponents.

The Eagles have risk defending the pass, pointing to a competitive game on the scoreboard. Hurts has a winnable matchup, and Philadelphia needs to regain the bounce in their offense after being held to 32 points over the past two weeks.

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 15

Easton Stick vs. Aidan O’Connell. This is, uh…., not what we signed up for. After 14 up-and-down Thursday contests, this week’s offering is the NFL version of going through the motions. It is what it is. Regardless, the FullTime Fantasy Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 15 breaks down this week’s contest from a fantasy and sports betting perspective.

After losing Justin Herbert for the rest of the season, the Chargers are now riding out the clock. A new regime now seems inevitable for Los Angeles. Additionally, Easton Stick will make his first NFL start on streaming TV against an equally moribund Raiders franchise.

As for Vegas, they hit rock bottom last week, losing their third consecutive game by a paltry 3-0 score. Both teams sit at 5-8 in the mediocre AFC West.

However, on the bright side, there’s no way these two teams will score fewer points than last week. Right?

The Chargers opened as 3-point favorites. However, when news of Herbert’s season-ending injury hit, the line shifted oppositely. Las Vegas now stands as a field-goal favorite. Conversely, the total plummeted 8.5 points from its opening of 42.

Both of these teams have faced more than their fair share of adversity.

Brandon Staley faces a lot of scrutiny as the Chargers have been one of the most under-achieving teams in the AFC. The addition of offensive coordinator Keelen Moore from Dallas has not panned out as expected. The Chargers have been an average offense that will surely plummet without Herbert under center.

Meanwhile, the Raiders have a brief resurgence under interim head coach Antonio Pierce. However, after three consecutive defeats with three total touchdowns scored, that success is a distant memory.

Las Vegas has rushed for an NFL-worst 1,048 yards. A struggling offensive line plays a big part in the struggles. But making matters worse, the Raiders will be without star RB Josh Jacobs, who will miss this game with a quad injury.

Las Vegas Offense

Further hampering the offense is QB Aidan O’Connell. The fourth-round rookie has thrown just four touchdowns in seven games…

D.K. Metcalf (6/134/3) had a correction game in Week 13, putting him on the wide receiver podium for the first time all year. Deebo Samuel (35.80) and Nico Collins (34.10) finished second and third for the week. Tyreek Hill (32.70), CeeDee Lamb (32.60), and Ja’Marr Chase (31.90) all posted impact games. Five other wideouts scored between 23.50 and 29.50 fantasy points. Here are the top five wide receivers by scoring average after 13 weeks:

Top Tier Options

Justin Jefferson, MIN (DK – $8,500/FD – $9,000)

After an eight-week vacation with a hamstring issue, Jefferson returns to the starting lineup in Week 14. His season started with four productive games (9/150, 11/159, 7/149/1, and 6/85/2). He averaged 11.75 targets, leading to 28.33 fantasy points per game in DraftKings scoring. Over this stretch, the Vikings attempted 157 passes. 

Las Vegas ranks 14th in wide receiver defense (141/1,724/10 on 215 targets), with one disaster game (MIA – 19/263/1). Their pass defense showed regression over the last three games (NYJ – 263/0, MIA – 325/2, and KC – 298/2). Three wideouts (Amon-Ra St. Brown – 6/108, Tyreek Hill – 10/146/1, and Rashee Rice – 8/107/1) gained more than 100 yards receiving. Their best cornerback (Nate Hobbs) works primarily out of the slot, suggesting a favorable matchup for Jefferson.

The key to the Vikings’ top wideout is his chemistry with Joshua Dobbs and Minnesota upping their passing attempts. Jefferson has beast upside, and a running quarterback could help his ability to break free for a long scoring play.

Joe Mixon (29.70) finished as the top-scoring running back in Week 13, lifting him to sixth in fantasy points (178.10) for the season. Alvin Kamara (28.90) won the runner-up prize, followed by De’Von Achane (25.30) and Derek Henry (25.00). Five other running backs scored between 20.00 and 22.50 fantasy points. Elite Tier Option

Christian McCaffrey, SF (DK – $9,200/FD – $10,500)

McCaffrey is the most consistent running back in the NFL. He holds close to a seven-point weekly average edge in PPR formats. His floor has been 20.00 fantasy points in 10 of his 12 starts while riding a six-game streak. His best two showings came in Week 4 (48.70) and Week 12 (30.90) vs. division opponents (ARI and SEA). The 49ers give him 21.75 touches a game. And McCaffrey has a score in every contest except Week 10. Two weeks ago, he gained 139 yards with two touchdowns and five catches against the Seahawks.

Seattle slipped to 28th in running back defense after three disaster games (42.00, 45.50, and 35.80 fantasy points) over the past five weeks. Running backs have 15 touchdowns vs. the Seahawks. They struggled in one game defending running backs in the passing game (WAS – 12/164/2). Baltimore (41/298/3) ran over them on the ground in Week 9.

I have McCaffrey projected as a difference-maker in Week 14, giving him a chance at four times his salary at DraftKings. The 49ers are red hot offensively, starting with elite quarterback play. The challenge is finding a winning roster behind him in the DFS market.

Geno Smith (34.20) and Jake Browning (30.90) were the two surprises in quarterback scoring in Week 13, leading to them finishing first and fourth in scoring. Brock Purdy (32.60 – 2nd) had his second elite game over the past three weeks despite not attempting more than 27 passes in each matchup. Dak Prescott (31.25 – 3rd) posted his fifth impact showing over the last six weeks. Eight other quarterbacks scored between 20.00 and 28.00 fantasy points. Here are the top five quarterbacks by scoring average after 13 weeks:

Top Tier Options

Josh Allen, BUF (DK – $8,300/FD – $9,000)

Over his last seven starts, Allen gained fewer than 7.0 yards per pass attempt in five matchups (5.6, 6.5, 6.8, 6.8, and 6.6). He threw an interception in eight consecutive games. Allen tried to carry the Bills on his back in his start vs. the Eagles (420 combined yards with four touchdowns), but it wasn’t enough to win the game. All three (39.70, 32.35, and 33.30) of his other games with more than 30.00 fantasy points came at home. He has nine rushing scores over his last 10 starts.

Kansas City slipped to ninth in quarterback defense (17.55 FPPG), with only Jordan Love (26.35) scoring more than 25.00 fantasy points. They allow 6.9 yards per pass attempt, with quarterbacks tossing 18 touchdowns. The Chiefs have yet to give up more than three touchdowns in any matchup in 2023.

Allen is the highest-scoring quarterback (27.91) with a reasonable chance at scoring 3 times his salary at DraftKings in most weeks. His ceiling requires the Chiefs to play at a higher level offensively as well. I view him as more of a gamble than a target in Week 14.

Patrick Mahomes, KC (DK – $7,900/FD – $8,400)

Over the last five games, Patrick Mahomes averaged 222 passing yards with only seven touchdowns and some help in the run game (24/117). The Chiefs’ lack of star power at wide receiver remains an issue. His only game (453/4) supporting his current salary came in Week 7 at home against the Chargers. Mahomes has 14 touchdowns in six games in Kansas City compared to eight on the road over the same number of snaps. In 2022, he gained 359 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Bills.

Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 14

Remember when Thursday was ‘Must See TV’? That no longer applies. After being blessed with a terrific game last week that featured no punts, football fans will be hard-pressed to be excited about the Thursday Night Football Preview: Week 14.

After watching a game with no punts, Week 14 features two of the five lowest-scoring teams in football. New England is coming off a 6-0 shutout. The Patriots have scored one touchdown total in their last three games. Additionally, being shutout by the Chargers’ 28th-ranked defense does not bode well for a trip to Pittsburgh to face a Steelers defense that has surrendered the sixth-fewest points.

Meanwhile, only four other teams have mustered fewer points on offense than Pittsburgh. Additionally, the Steelers are now trotting out their No. 2 quarterback on short rest.

The Steelers opened as slight favorites and a futile total of 35 points plummeted down to a meager 30.

Hardly a must-see event- this AFC duel is strictly for diehards and fantasy fanatics.

These two teams put the offense in ‘offensive’.

New England has struggled in all facets of assembling a credible offense. They have scored the fewest points in football. Also, New England has a pathetic 10-to-14 TD-to-INT ratio. Finally, they rank 31st in average starting position, percentage of drives resulting in points, and dead-last in field goal percentage.

Things have been marginally better in Pittsburgh, especially since dismissing Matt Canada. The Steelers are a respectable 14th with 1,384 rushing yards and lead the NFL with only 10 turnovers. Mike Tomlin has done another fantastic job guiding a very marginal offensive unit to a 7-5 record.

Finally, acclimate yourself with Pressley Harvin III and Bryce Baringer, the team’s punters.

Last week, no wide receiver scored more than 25.50 fantasy points in PPR formats. Tyreek Hill (9/104/1) won the Gold Medal, followed by Mike Evans (6/70/2) and Rashee Rice (8/107/1). Eleven other wideouts scored between 20.00 and 24.00 fantasy points. Over the previous three weeks, Keenan Allen (30.57) was the top player. Here are the top five wide receivers by scoring average after 12 weeks of action:

Top Tier Options

Tyreek Hill, MIA (DK – $9,600/FD – $10,000)

The Dolphins gave Hill double-digit targets in each of the last six matchups, leading to him having a floor of eight catches in five consecutive starts. He’s gained over 100 yards in seven of his 11 games while adding a score in nine different weeks (10 total TDs). Hill’s best showing in fantasy points came in Week 1 (44.50), and he has three other outcomes with at least 30.00 fantasy points at home. 

Washington has the second-worst wide receiver defense (155/2,355/18 on 238 targets), with wideouts gaining 15.2 yards per catch. Six teams (DEN – 13/274/3, PHI – 17/264/2, CHI – 8/230/3, PHI – 17/242/4, SEA – 21/256/1, and DAL – 13/245/3) gained over 200 yards from their wide receivers. Their quarterbacks passed for more than 300 yards in each of these failures. D.J. Moore (8/230/2) and A.J. Brown (8/130/2 and 9/175/2) had the most success. CB Benjamin St. Juste (56/741/4 on 56 targets per PFF) has been a weak link in coverage, along with CB Emmanuel Forbes (27/490/3 on 42 targets).

The Dolphins do an excellent job getting Hill easy catches close to the line of scrimmage, with some coming out of the backfield. He has the speed and quickness to beat any defender one-on-one, pointing to an impact game vs. the Commanders. He comes into this week with a slight ankle issue that limited his playing time in practice. Over his final six starts, Hill needs 676 receiving yards to reach 2,000 yards. 

A.J. Brown, PHI (DK – $8,800/FD – $8,400)
