As I was out doing some errands today I had this nagging feeling that I had to get my article in before the Saturday evening 7PM Slate. Obviously, I then realized oh wait, I don’t have to do that and then I started to get sad about no Sunday Dongers Club either, because I would really enjoy some Sunday MLB action right now.
I guess one could stay up all night and watch KBO for Sunday Baseball, because we have 5 games as usual for the KBO and a decent recent string of DFS action related to it for us to feel confident going into this Sunday slate. One word of caution is to be aware of anyone “Resting” on the Sunday slate — so maybe try to stay up as late as you can for tonight’s games — all of which begin at 1:00 AM EST.
WEATHER
All games are clear of rain and four of the games will feature temps in the upper 70’s (only the Dinos-Wyverns game is not). I expect we see a high scoring slate of action.
PITCHING
Drew Rucinski – NC Dinos ($9200 vs SK)
If he were 10,000 on this slate then it would be more appropriate. Everything is positive in his favor today and thus we’ll see him carry a ton of ownership even as the highest priced arm on the slate. The opponent is bad (SK Wyverns are 1-9, compared to the Dinos being 9-1), he is a huge -215 road favorite pitching in a below avg hitters park.
Then we breakdown the metrics for him versus the actual lineup he will face and there isn’t much to be scared of outside of Jeong Choi and Jamie Romak. The only logic in not going with Rucinski today with his high K% against that bad lineup would be if you roll out Choi and Romak as contrarian 3-4 hitters against him — both of whom have some power but also carry high K%.
Odrisamer Despaigne – KT Wiz ($8500 vs SAM)
Despaigne has been exactly as I figured he would be thus far. With 14 strikeouts through 11 innings he’s looking good but he’s also had to throw 200 pitches across those two starts to get there. That’s what he’ll likely continue to be but Samsung isn’t very deep and so I like Despaigne to rack up the strikeouts at the bottom of this order & at home he’s my favorite SP today (even more than Rucinski).
Sunday Longshot:
Seung Heon Lee ($4000) … Not just because he is min priced — that is justified as this will be his first action of 2020, and he didn’t do much of anything in 2019. A young pitcher who appears to have some good velocity though against a team with zero dangerous batters (Hanwha Eagles) in their lineup right now is tempting. If he only pitches 3 innings don’t be shocked, but the min priced arm has some tempting value today to keep an eye on.
I wouldn’t play 100% of him or on your main lineup. But for a 3 lineup player, he’s in the mix.
TOP STACKS
LOTTE Giants
Min Woo Kim carries a heavy WHIP …
No, not that kind of WHIP….
NO. STOP! NOT THAT KIND OF …
SON OF A … I REFUSE TO BREAK OUT THE WHIT MERRIFIELD SUNDAY NARRATIVE ON A KOREAN BASEBALL PLAYER
ah, son of a bitch….
Let’s WHIP up the Giants 1-5 stack today fellas…
- Byung Hun Min (OF)
- Joon Woo Jeon (OF)
- Ah Seop SONday’s…. (OF)
- Dae-Ho Lee (1B)
- Chi Hong An (2B)
DOOSAN BEARS
They finally cooled off last night and today they get Aaron Brooks during a 1PM home game. I have plenty experience with Aaron Brooks random home 1PM Sunday games. Don’t go there… Right back on the Bears in what should be a great spot for Jim Miller and Marty Booker…. oh wait, wrong Bears…
- Jose Miguel Fernandez (2B)
- Jae Il Oh (1B)
- Jae Hwan Kim (OF)
I feel those three are the CORE of your lineup with the Bears, so plug them into those positions then mix and match elsewhere and consider Se Hyuk Park (C) who should be in today hopefully.
KIWOOM HEROES
I was gonna go back to the LG Twins well and if you want a 5 man stack then sure go with the Twins, but this is your chalk/single entry combination to not ignore today
ByungHo Park (1B) and Ha Seong Kim (SS) both have great power and should feast in the same game against the Twins in a great hitters park. Plus there’s that weird ByungHo Park – Twins on a Sunday narrative….
POSITIONAL RANKINGS
CATCHER
- Se Hyuk Park – DOO
- Kang Nam Yoo – LG
FIRST BASE – Deep!
- Dae Ho Lee – LOT
- ByungHo Park – KIW
- Joo Hwan Choi – DOO
- Roberto Ramos – LG
SECOND BASE
- Chi Hong An – LOT … This is where I put my model to the test. Chi Hong An is about $3k cheaper than Dixon Machado today, likely bats in front of him and I have him ranked higher. Hello Whit Hong An
Now, mind you…. This is how dangerous my mind is. I didn’t pull the day of week splits — I SWEAR — before going to dig into Chi Hong An (or Ahn) more, and well. What do you know. This fucker was a .268 hitter for the entire 2019 season last year — but on Sundays? — ah, on Sunday’s the guy was .417 hitter over 17 games with only ONE, yes ONE strikeout in 60 at bats. Guy see’s the ball well in the afternoons and with that awesome backdrop of Dixon Machado behind him he’ll WHIP it up good.
THIRD BASE
This position sucks, which makes Jeong Choi very tempting
- Jeong Choi – SK … vs chalk Rucinski
- Jae Gyun Hwang – KTW
- Kyoung Min Hur – DOO
SHORTSTOP
- Ha Seong Kim – KIW … He and ByungHo Park from Kiwoom Eagles make a nice 1-2 punch from a popular team today.
- Dixon Machado – LOT
OUTFIELD
- Jun Woo Jeaon – LOT
- Jae Hwan Kim – DOO
- Jung Hoo Lee – KIW
- Preston Tucker – KIA … GOAT status with another 40 burger last night, he is questionable though as he left early with an injury. Likely spot to fade because of that
- Dong Min Han – SK
VALUE
- Ah Seop SONday – LOT
- Wong Joon Choi – KIA
DONGERS CLUB
Chairman: Ha Seong Kim (SS) – Kiwoom
