Prescription Notes for Week 11
The Patriots won a close game on the road in Philadelphia, but they didn’t look great doing it. Tom Brady threw for only 216 and Julian Edelman was the only Patriot who threw a TD pass. Moreover, Sony Michel led the running backs with 33 rushing yards and Edelman led the receiving corps with 53 receiving yards. I know the Eagles defense is good, but if the Patriots can’t throw a TD pass and or run effectively, they have me concerned as to whether they can make another run at the Super Bowl.
The Vikings had an impressive comeback (they were down 20-0 at halftime), but you can’t tell me that the last play of the game wasn’t defensive pass interference. The Vikings defender grabbed Fant’s jersey and the ref didn’t call it. That said, the game should not have gone down to the wire like that. The Broncos started out with aggressive play calling and then got conservative while the Vikings aired it out in the second half. Broncos WRs Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick torched the Vikings secondary all game long and they should not have stopped challenging their secondary even with the lead.

Two things were shocking in the Falcons-Panthers game. The first was how well the Falcons defense played for the second week in a row. They sacked Kyle Allen five times and forced him to throw four INTs. The second was how poorly RB Brian Hill played. Hill, who was taking over for the injured Devonta Freeman, only had 30 yards rushing and one reception fort 8 yards. Kudos to Steve Renner from FulltimeDFS.com who told everyone in his Ambush article to fade Hill this week.
You would have thought that when Colts RB Marlon Mack left the game with an injured hand that the Colts running game would have been in trouble, but Jonathan Williams came off the bench and ran for 116 yards on 13 carries. Williams was only playing because Jordan Wilkins was injured. This is the same Jonathan Williams who excelled at Arkansas only to be cut from like three different teams in the NFL. Now with Mack out for Week 12 (and possibly more), Williams might just be a name that Fantasy owners are pursuing on waivers this week.
Bills RB Devin Singletary is going to be a great Fantasy player but for now three things are stopping him from reaching his potential:
- Frank Gore comes into the game when the Bills reach the red zone.
- Josh Allen has seven rushing TDs on the year and the Bills call his number on the goal line.
- The Bills rarely throw the ball to him when they are winning. Once the Bills start trusting him with all facets of the game, he will breakthrough and be a huge star.
When I broke down the Texans-Ravens game on FNTSY radio I mentioned that the Texans were going to be in trouble because the Ravens secondary would shut down the Texans wide receivers. This is exactly what happened. The Ravens pass rush gave Deshaun Watson little time to throw and the Texans receivers had no time to get open. DeAndre Hopkins was the only Texans receiver to have more than 30 yards receiving (he had 80). On the other side of the ball, the Texans defense had no answer for Lamar Jackson and Mark Ingram. The game ended 41-7 but the score didn’t even seem that close.
Dak Prescott may not be perfect, but he certainly is someone who the Cowboys need to sign and build their team around. Once again, Prescott played great football, throwing for 444 yards and three TDs. The amazing thing about that stat line was that only 38 or those yards went to Amari Cooper. When Prescott is connecting with Michael Gallup and Randall Cobb successfully, it makes the Cowboys a very difficult team to beat.
The Bucs have some major thinking to do this off-season about personnel. TE O.J. Howard was benched in the first half after dropping a pass he should have caught. QB Jameis Winston threw four INTS and could not handle the Saints pass rush and looked horrible. My best guess is that the team sticks with Winston but sends Howard packing. Fantasy owners might wish to do the same as it looks like Cameron Brate is going to supplant Howard as the starting TE.
I know that Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins threw his first two TD passes of his career against the Jets, but the truth is that he looked awful. Haskins was missing receivers on simple pass patterns and looks like he is completely overmatched at the NFL level. Conversely, Jets QB Sam Darnold threw the ball effectively (293 yards and 4 TDs) and looked every part of a potential star. The Redskins won’t throw in the towel on Haskins any time soon, but they really should. Sometimes it’s better to move on quickly, then let things linger.
I had a feeling that the Bengals-Raiders games was going to be a big under points-wise. It’s not usual for Las Vegas to miss by this much, but the truth is that both teams struggle to move the ball and prefer to run more than pass. The two bright spots in the game were Bengals RB Joe Mixon, who ran for 86 yards and a TD and Raiders RB Josh Jacobs who ran for 112 yards. Mixon just needs a better offensive line to be a major producer. Jacobs is a first-round talent in 2020 Fantasy drafts.
When the 49ers look back on this season, they will see that Week 11 was a crucial one for their franchise. First, they beat the Cardinals without running the ball effectively (only 34 yards rushing). Secondly, Jimmy Garoppolo led the team to a big comeback win in the fourth quarter, and lastly, I think we are seeing the beginning of a very special player in Deebo Samuel. When Sanders, Samuel, and Kittle are all healthy and in the lineup, the 49ers are going to be tough team to beat.
The Rams-Bears game on Sunday night was rather boring until the last five minutes of the game. At that time, the Rams executed their best drive of the night, capped by a Malcolm Brown rushing TD. However, the bigger story was when the Bears came out to take the field down 17-7, their QB was Chase Daniel and not Mitch Trubisky. There are some reports saying that Trubisky had a hip injury and needed to come out, but the truth is that he had been horrible all game long and their just might be a QB controversy brewing in the Windy City.
