Dr. Roto: Week 13 Waiver Wire Video

Dr. Roto breaks down the top players to target on the waiver wire in this video as we approach Week 13 of the NFL season!

Week 13 Waiver Wire

Before I give out my favorite waiver wire adds for this week, I want to talk to you about your rosters. In most high stakes leagues, Week 13 is the last week that players can be picked up before waivers are locked. Because of this, it is critical to ensure that you have backups at every position (yes that means a kicker!). I would try to carry three QBs, two Kickers, two tight ends, and one defense going into the final weeks. I speak from experience as not following this simple rule could come back to haunt you as it did me last season. I finished second overall in the Online Championship last season mainly because I did not have a backup for my QBs Carson Wentz (out for the season) and DeShone Kizer (lost the job). Did it cost me $50,000? I am not sure, but I know I won’t make the same mistake this season.

Quarterbacks

Jeff Driskel — Driskel is taking over for the injured Andy Dalton and has flashed some mobility and arm strength in recent mop-up duty. The Broncos defense was exceptionally generous to Big Ben last week. I am not sure Driskel is even close to competing with Ben, but I do think that he will take shots downfield and might be worth a flyer.

Cody Kessler — Thankfully, Blake Bortles has been benched, and Kessler has the opportunity to be the new starter for the Jags. The Jaguars are always going to be a run-based team, so don’t expect too much from Kessler, but he is not nearly as mistake prone as Bortles, so he could be a solid contributor in deep two QB leagues.

Lamar Jackson — Flacco is still at least a week away from returning and if the Ravens keep winning it will be even harder for him to reclaim his job. Jackson has an immense downside, but his upside is too hard to ignore. Stash him so your opponent can’t get him.

Jameis Winston — Jameis looked solid at home against SF in Week 12, and this week he draws the Carolina defense with its depleted secondary. He should have another big week with at least 300 yards passing and two TDs.
