CFL DFS: Week 16

Week 15 Review: For once, the usually reliable SSK defense let me down last week and the worst part was that it happened in the best matchup they had almost all season long! Collaros did a great job distributing the ball and getting 2 passing touchdowns while Naaman Roosevelt continues to be his top target in the offense. Fading Andrew Harris worked but it was only due to him getting injured and having to exit the game early. Time to look ahead towards this upcoming week!

Week 16

QB

Bo Levi Mitchell is my favorite quarterback on this slate and for obvious reasons. His team is just coming off a bye week, so they are rested and ready to go and draw a very favorable matchup against Toronto. Looking at their previous matchup this season, BLM went 20-22 for 297 yards and 1 touchdown which accrued 27 DK points. With all the injuries that are occurring to his receiving corps, Mitchell is taking it upon himself to move this offense through the air. Over his last 4 games, he has attempted 140 passing attempts which is the most for him this season. The Argonauts are still struggling defending the pass, averaging 308 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns allowed in each of their last 3 games. BLM is my favorite quarterback this week!

Jonathon Jennings really came on strong last week in place of Travis Lulay and he draws the same matchup this week against Hamilton. Jennings struggled earlier this season but excelled last week, going 32-47 for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns….Those are Mike Reilly stats! Hamilton has been off against the pass, allowing 40 passing attempts, 316 passing yards and over 2 passing touchdowns per game. If you are looking for some salary relief, he could be your guy this week. He is right behind BLM on my QB depth chart for this week.

Mike Reilly is always worth a consideration for your lineups even at the high price point of $11,800. He is risky just because if he doesn’t produce, it is tough to win gpps. Looking at his last 4 games, he has eclipsed 30 DK points in 2 of those games and has also produced 2 games under 25 DK points. In this same matchup against Winnipeg, he threw for 408 passing yards while hitting 40 DK points. Now granted, that was the first game of the season, but I don’t see Mike Reilly having a bad game in this matchup, especially with game being played at home in Edmonton.

RB

William Stanback is looking to be the guy now moving forward in Montreal. Sutton was just traded to BC so this move leaves the door wide open for Stanback to become an even more important piece in this Alouettes offense. He is only $5,700 which is a great value for this week. He does face a pesky SSK defense, but they have been struggling against the run recently. When looking at their last 3 game average against the run, Saskatchewan is allowing 109 rushing yards and 1.3 touchdowns per game which is not very good. For his price and the amount of run he should be getting, I think he is a solid play overall this weekend.

With Alex Green going on the IR, John White looks to emerge as the main running back for Hamilton. He saw 19 carries against BC while rushing for 62 yards, so he was heavily involved in their offensive game plan. White is $5,400 so he also allows for some tremendous salary relief if you are looking to pay down at the running back position.

Don Jackson is listed as questionable, but he is my favorite running back this week. He has been dealing with an ankle injury, but it looks like he was able to practice Monday which is a good sign! Toronto has been awful against the run, allowing 139 yards per game in their most recent 3 game stretch and the game script should be in Calgary’s favor. If they get up to a big lead, they should look to Jackson to close out the game!

WR

I will be looking to stack my quarterbacks with some of their wide receivers this week. With Mitchell, the best wide receiver to use is Reggie Begelton. Begelton over the last 3 games, has seen 26 targets and has 362 yards receiving. The Stampeders have really been bitten by the injury bug but Begelton is emerging as a top target for BLM. Other receivers that could be looked at is Marken Michel (Has had 3 double digit DK performances in 3 games) and Juwan Brescacin who is just $4,300.

Jennings threw the ball all over Hamilton last week, so we definitely should look at some of his receivers this week. Burnham has been excelling ever since he took over the lead receiving role when Manny Arceneaux went down for the season. He is on the pricier side at $8,900 but he is worth at looking to put in your lineups. He has seen 36 targets over the last 4 games, so the Lions are making him a focal point on offense. Ricky Collins Jr. surprisingly has seen more targets over that same 4 game period (39 targets) but has not produced as consistently as Burnham. On a cheaper end, a good gpp play could be the newly acquired Devier Posey. He saw 7 targets in just his 2nd game of the year so it seems like they will try to get him the ball moving forward!

Duke Williams is always in consideration every slate, especially pairing with Reilly. This is a tougher matchup with Winnipeg being a tougher overall defense, but we have seen this Eskimos offense succeed regardless of the matchup. The best value on the board is Bryant Mitchell and I will continue to use him every week! He has really taken over Derel Walker’s role in this offense and he is still priced very cheap at $5,400 this week!

There are a few other wide receivers from a few other teams that do deserve some consideration this week. Naaman Roosevelt is out for Saskatchewan so that gives a big boost to both Jordan Williams-Lambert and Kyran Moore. Brandon Banks and Luke Tasker will be the main targets for Hamilton and always deserve a look but the Lions passing defense has been tough all year long, so they are more of a tournament type of play.

Def.-

I think both Saskatchewan and Calgary are in great spots this week. It is tough to read Montreal since they have gotten better as the season has progressed, but they still are on the lower end of the spectrum of the league when it comes to offensive output. Calgary is in the same spot going up a Toronto team that has really struggled to move the ball consistently throughout the season. I would pay up for defense this week and move on!
