Plays of the Day
Value: Kelly Oubre Jr. stayed hot with 16 points over 31 minutes in a plus matchup against Minnesota last night and is definitely worth a look with John Wall (knee) still out ahead of a matchup in Philly.
Fade: DeMarcus Cousins ate up Karl-Anthony Towns the last time those former Wildcats faced off, but KAT could get a modicum of revenge tonight and at least hold Boogie under value, which has been a consistent result for the mercurial big man lately.
Point Guards
Russell Westbrook – (11,200 DK/11,000 FD)
James Harden draws a juicy matchup against a Pacers team that is playing at the ninth-fastest pace and giving up the fourth-most PPG (23.29) to opposing PGs, which is essentially Harden’s role despite the addition of Chris Paul. While he’s a better option at just $400 more on DK, Westbrook is the superior play given their difference in price on FanDuel. He’s rolling over his last four games and faces a Magic defense that’s been absolutely awful lately.
Tyus Jones – (4,500 DK/5,30 FD)
As long as Jeff Teague (Achilles) remains out, Jones will serve as a fantastic value play and a cornerstone of lineups on both main DFS sites. The former Duke standout added 12 points and 7 assists in last night’s loss to Washington, but notably played 40 minutes and is clearly Minnesota’s only true option at PG until Teague gets right.
Potential Value
Rajon Rondo – (4,900 DK/4,800 FD)
Rondo should remain a solid source of FPs in the right matchups and he could be facing Minnesota’s backup PG tonight in Jones.
Longshot
Lonzo Ball – (6,800 DK/6,700 FD)
The sheer pace of play between the Lakers and Warriors tonight gives Ball a chance to pile up peripheral stats and maybe post a triple double.
Shooting Guards
Tyreke Evans – (6,600 DK/7,500 FD)
Mike Conley (Achilles) remains out and his backup Mario Chalmers (ankle) is questionable, which could lead to a start for Kentucky product Andrew Harrison. Yet it could also lead to Tyreke Evans serving as the primary facilitator for Memphis in a matchup against a Spurs team that’s been giving up above average production (41.65 FPPG) to opposing SFs with Kawhi Leonard inactive all year. Evans has been quiet over his last couple of games, but his playing time remains consistent and interim HC J.B. Bickerstaff should look to unleash the Reke in an effort to come out with a tough road win.
Tim Hardaway Jr. – (6,500 DK/6,100 FD)
Hardaway Jr. could get hot again tonight against a Heat team that is on the second half of a B2B set. Hardaway is scoring 0.52 points per minute with a 24.7 percent usage rate this year and should play well off of Kristaps Porzingis and Enes Kanter now that both big men are healthy.. Miami ranks 25th in opponents 3PT shooting (.378%) and Hardaway Jr. is getting it done both inside and out while averaging 18.6 PPG and 33.1 DK PPG at home this season.
Potential Value
Jeremy Lamb – (5,500 DK/6,300 FD)
Lamb remains a solid mid-tier option despite the return of Nic Batum.
Longshot
Bradley Beal – (8,100 DK/8,300 FD)
Beal will be a contrarian play tonight after busting in a plus matchup last night, but he could bounce back against the high-scoring Sixers with John Wall out.
Small Forwards
Paul George – (8,600 DK/8,600 FD)
Orlando’s defense has been a disaster over the past few weeks and if you can’t afford Russell Westbrook, Paul George as an intriguing option as a way to gain some exposure to the Thunder offense tonight. The Magic allow the most FPPG (45.50) and third-most PPG (24.42) to opposing SGs this season and while PG technically plays SF, he handles just about all the spot-up shooting on the wing when playing next to defensive specialist Andre Roberson. He’s been productive with defensive stats despite going through a brief shooting slump of late and could serve as a great per-dollar GPP play if he finds his stroke in this juicy road matchup.
Kelly Oubre Jr. – (4,200 DK/4,300 FD)
He continued his hot streak with 16 points over 31 minutes in a plus matchup against Minnesota last night and Oubre is definitely worth a look in what could be a much higher-scoring game in Philly this Wednesday. When John Wall (knee) is off the floor Oubre Jr. sees a 5.1 percent rise in usage rate and he may even play some with Bradley Beal off the floor as well on the second half of a B2B set.
Potential Value
Stanley Johnson – (3,900 DK/4,000 FD)
Johnson is a low-upside value to consider in a plus matchup against the Suns.
Longshot
Otto Porter – (6,700 DK/7,300 FD)
Porter carried the Wizards last night with John Wall out and could continue to thrive if defenses pay too much attention to Bradley Beal.
Power Forwards
Kristaps Porzingis – (8,200 DK/8,900 FD)
He met value on Monday in a tough matchup against the Blazers and Porzingis’ price tag continues to drop, so clearly he’s worth a look in a better matchup tonight. The Heat is tough on opposing centers, but Enes Kanter (back) should return to split time with Kyle O’Quinn and they’ll be the ones contending with Hassan Whiteside. Miami’s also on the second half of a B2B set and Whiteside’s been icing his knee recently so he might not be ready to play a full slate of minutes, while The Zinger thrives at MSG with averages of 28.5 PPG and 45.3 DK PPG over 13 home games this year.
Harrison Barnes – (6,100 DK/6,500 FD)
Out of necessity, Harrison Barnes has been the main man for the last-place Mavericks this year and that’s made him a very good cash play. He draws a beautiful matchup tonight against a Nets team that plays at the third-fastest pace and coughs up the second-most PPG (113.7) in the NBA, while Brooklyn also allows the second-most FPPG (44.92) to opposing SFs this season.
Potential Value
Julius Randle – (5,100 DK/4,600 FD)
Randle should see extended run tonight against the small-ball Warriors.
Longshot
Robert Covington – (6,200 DK/6,200 FD)
Covington could snap out of his cold spell in a plus matchup against the Wizards.
Centers
Andre Drummond – (9,200 DK/9,400 FD)
Drummond obviously deserves consideration tonight after destroying the under sized Celtics in a high-scoring bout on Monday. The big man is making a huge leap this year, averaging 14.4 PPG and he leads the league at 15.6 RPG after grabbing 20 boards in Boston. Up next is a Suns team with a revolving rotation of centers, none of whom can match up with Drummond’s combination of size and speed and it certainly helps to note that the Suns play at the second-fastest pace and cough up the most RPG (47.4) in the NBA this year.
Dwight Howard – (7,100 DK/7,200 FD)
Howard had a poor game against a disciplined Spurs team that simply won’t give up easy baskets to a player that makes his living in the paint. Yet Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas is hobbled and that’s left Toronto vulnerable down low, while Howard was rolling with averages of 21.8 PPG and 14.7 RPG over his previous four appearances prior to his rough outing at San Antonio, which came three days ago, providing ample rest for the aging big man.
Potential Value
Alex Len – (4,500 DK/4,700 FD)
Len continues to provide modest production and he’ll be needed in a matchup with Drummond.
Longshot
Marc Gasol – (8,300 DK/9,000 FD)
Gasol will need to show up with a big game after effectively contributing to the firing of former HC David Fizdale.
