2019 Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway Fantasy Picks

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is back at Richmond Raceway this weekend for the second race at the three-quarter-mile short track and the second race of the 2019 playoffs. Now that post-qualifying inspection is complete and the lineup is official, it is time to dive into some season-long Fantasy NASCAR plays.

On the plus side, it was a relatively clean inspection this weekend. Only two cars failed, and of the two, Bubba Wallace is the only driver who could have a shred of fantasy appeal. Of course, a lack of failures also means that most of the big names are starting up front, so the difference between a great week and an average week in the Fantasy Live playoff contest could be thin.… Continue reading ...

2019 Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway Fantasy Picks

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Darlington Raceway this weekend for one of the biggest races at one of the more challenging tracks. Sunday’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 is one of the crown jewel events in the sport, but winning at NASCAR’s original superspeedway means managing tires for 500 miles while running within inches of the outside wall on Darlington’s narrow, abrasive racing surface.

Darlington’s 1.366-mile, egg-shaped layout is unlike any other track on the schedule, and while it remains to be seen how the reduced-horsepower, high-downforce package will impact the racing here, I think we can look at the results from the 1.5-mile ovals as potential indicators. If that’s the case, then passing could be difficult, and we could see a lot of the same drivers hang up front all night.… Continue reading ...

2019 Consumers Energy 400 Fantasy Picks

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is back at Michigan International Speedway this weekend, and while there is never a guarantee that two races at the same track will play out the same way, it is hard to ignore the similarities with how qualifying played out for the June race here and for Consumers Energy 400.

Earlier this year, Team Penske and Stewart-Haas Racing flexed their muscles in qualifying at Michigan while Joe Gibbs Racing sacrificed qualifying speed for better handling in the race. Looking at the starting lineup for Sunday’s race, we see the exact same trend. The one major difference was the performance of the Hendrick Motorsports cars. The HMS gang didn’t have much qualifying speed the first time around, but that was not the case Friday.… Continue reading ...

Fantasy NASCAR Stock Report

The summer stretch of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season continues this weekend with a return trip to Michigan International Speedway. It is hard to believe, but including Sunday’s Consumers Energy 400 at MIS, there are just four races left before the playoffs. A lot has changed over the course of the year in terms of driver performance, so since we are heading back to Michigan, I decided to take a look at which drivers having been trending up and who has gone in the wrong direction since the June race at the two-mile oval.

Consider it a stock report of sorts, and as with any stock, expectations and past performance have a lot to do with how I view a driver’s fantasy value.… Continue reading ...

2019 Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Fantasy Picks

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend, and while the flat corners at “The Magic Mile” can turn races at the track into a battle for track position, Sunday’s Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 could still be kind to Fantasy NASCAR owners.

As is often the case with flatter tracks, there has been a handful of drivers who have stood out from the pack at New Hampshire, delivering one dominant performance at the track after the next. Needless to say, these drivers should make a great foundation for any season-long Fantasy NASCAR lineup this weekend and put you in position for a sizeable point total.… Continue reading ...

Fantasy NASCAR Rankings: Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

After the Busch brothers battled it out last Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series makes a trip New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend. Nicknamed “The Magic Mile,” the mostly flat, one-mile oval will host Sunday’s Foxwoods Resort Casino 301.

The summer stretch of the NASCAR schedule features tracks with a variety of layouts, and while there are other one-mile tracks, New Hampshire’s combination of size and lack of banking poses some unique problems. For one, completing a pass underneath another driver is tough, which makes restarts and pit strategy crucial elements. The track’s layout can also use up brakes in a hurry, so drivers have to be careful about how the manage their equipment over the course of the afternoon.… Continue reading ...
