Fantasy Football Injury Rundown

Javonte Williams

In a season that feels marred by injuries, Week 4 might have been the worst slate yet. We’re only one-quarter of the way through 2022 but it feels like every team has been majorly impacted. The Fantasy Football Injury Rundown keeps you up-to-date on all the fantasy-relevant injuries.

It is also important to know how to overcome roster adversity. Attacking the Week 5 waiver wire is a good place to start the recovery process.

Here is the fantasy football injury rundown ahead of Week 5.

Barring something unforseen, expect to see D’Andre Swift & Alvin Kamara suit up this weekend.

Javonte Williams (RB) Denver Broncos – The most devastating injury from Week 4 was Williams tearing his ACL. The sophomore running back’s 2022 season is over but there is some concern for his future. In addition to the ACL, Williams also tore his LCL and posterior lateral corner. These are three significant knee injuries that all occurred at once and will complicate his recovery. Our thoughts are with Williams and the long road ahead.

Dak Prescott (QB) Dallas Cowboys – There was some speculation that Prescott could return in Week 5. But owner Jerry Jones indicated Prescott is still having issues gripping the ball. The Cowboys are also 3-0 with Cooper Rush under center, so they can afford to let Prescott rest another week. Expect Rush to nab the start against the Rams.

Tua Tagovailoa (QB) Miami Dolphins – By now you’ve undoubtedly read about the Tua fiasco. It looked like Tagovailoa was concussed in Week 3 but was back out there on short rest. Then, a scarier head injury occurred on Thursday resulting in the quarterback being sent to the hospital. There are varying accounts of how Tua was allowed to re-enter Week 3 and suit up again four days later. Tua has already been ruled out for Week 5 and could be out longer. Teddy Bridgewater will be under center for the time being.

Jonathan Taylor (RB) Indianapolis Colts – The original diagnosis for Taylor was the dreaded high-ankle sprain. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. Taylor’s Week 5 availability is uncertain but he hasn’t participated in any practices. With the Colts due up for a Thursday game, things aren’t looking good. Even if he’s active, Taylor would likely be extremely limited against a Broncos defense that allows the ninth-fewest fantasy points to running backs.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR) Detroit Lions – St. Brown missed practice all week and was held out of Week 4. St. Brown is tentatively expected to return to practice ahead of this week’s trip to New England. We’ll have updated in the FullTime Fantasy Discord. Ditto for D.J. Chark who was also a surprise scratch last Sunday.

Cordarrelle Patterson (RB) Atlanta Falcons – Patterson tried to play through a knee injury, even scoring on nine carries but never returned. He was placed on IR Monday. That means he’ll be out a minimum of four games. Atlanta will surge ahead with Tyler Allgier and Caleb Huntley, who split snaps and touches evenly on Sunday.

Russell Wilson (QB) Denver Broncos – Wilson was limited in practice with shoulder fatigue. The Broncos are on a short week hosting the Colts on Thursday. It is almost certainly just the club being cautious in a limited week.

Daniel Jones (QB) New York Giants – Jones sprained his ankle in New York’s 20-12 victory over Chicago. Jones actually had to come back into the game after Tyrod Taylor exited with a concussion. It is not known if Jones will be available in Week 5 but the club brought in Jake Fromm and A.J. McCarron for workouts. We’ll update Jones’s status later when word breaks.

Treylon Burks (WR) Tennessee Titans – A turf toe injury could sideline rookie WR Treylon Burks for 2-4 weeks. For now, surgery isn’t needed but expect to be without Burks for multiple starts.

Jahan Dotson (WR) Washington Commanders – Ron Rivera said Jahan Dotson could miss 1-2 weeks with a hamstring injury. The injury itself didn’t seem too serious but hamstring ailments are notorious for reoccurring when not given proper time to fully heal. For now, plan on not having Dotson for Week 5, at least.

Brian Robinson (RB) Washington Commanders – Robison is expected to make his NFL debut in Week 5. The rookie missed the first month of the season after being shot in the leg. His arrival would be just in time too. Antonio Gibson‘s snap share has been trending down. Robinson attracted a lot of hype this summer so we should see if he can live up to that quickly.

Brian Hoyer (QB) New England Patriots – Already missing Mac Jones, the Patriots quickly had to get Bailey Zappe into NFL action after Hoyer was concussed early. All signs point toward Zappe making his first NFL start Sunday against the Lions.

Justice Hill (RB) Baltimore Ravens – Hill hurt his hamstring and is expected to miss a game or two. Baltimore also activated Gus Edwards from the PUP list. That makes Edwards eligible to participate in practice this week. Expect the Ravens to have Mike Davis and Kenyan Drake active this week.

Cameron Brate (TE) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Brate got hit by his teammate but returned to the field before being pulled and ruled out with a concussion. He will have to clear the league’s concussion protocol before he can return to action.

Jamison Crowder (WR) New York Jets – A broken ankle with sideline Crowder for an extended period of time. The injury could be season-ending, so there is little reason to hold onto Crowder except in the deepest of dynasty leagues.

Jerome Ford (KR) Cleveland Browns – Ford was placed on season-ending IR with an ankle injury.

Matt Prater (PK) Arizona Cardinals – Prater was questionable all week but managed to play before a hip injury caused him to exit in the third quarter. The signing of Matt Amendola all but assures that Prater will be inactive in Week 5.
