PITCHERS
Chris Sale
It looks like Sale is back to form with his velocity back up and 3 double digit strike out games in his last 4 games. Also his battered ball stats are down over his last few stars. This game will be in Fenway tonight with colder temps and wind blowing in at 6MPH. The Red Sox face the Rockies who have not hit as well vs LHP on the road this year (.233 average and 30% K rate). Looking at 7 innings 2 ERs and 12 ks.
Caleb Smith
Smith has pitched very well this year going 6 or more innings in all but one game the first of the year. He has only allowed 3 runs once this year with the rest at 2 or under. Excellent K rate at close to 30% vs both sides and the Rays have struck out at a 25% clip vs LHP this year. Good ballpark for pitchers and looking at 6 innings 1 ER (HR to Meadows) and 8Ks. Charlie Mortin is on the other side and in play as well as the Marlins have been one of the worst team vs RHP this year with a .239 average and 25% K rate. Both pitchers in play tonight.
VALUE ARM/DARK HORSE
Trent Thorton
Thorton has been up and down this year and most of the damage has been done at home vs LHHs. His home ERA is 6.75 & average of .301 vs a 3.12 ERA & .172 average on the road. Tonight he faces the Giants in Oracle Park which is known to benefit pitchers. The Giants have been awful this year with a.193 with a 27% K rate at home vs RHP add that to Thorton’s 28% K rate vs both sides and his home/road splits. This makes a very good matchup for Thorton tonight and looking at 6 innings 2 ERs and 8 Ks.
TEAM/S
Houston Astros
The Astros have been on fire as of late scoring 34 runs over the last 3 games. They are also one of the best teams this year vs LHP (.282 avereage, .357 wOBA, and under a 2o% K rate). They face Ryan Carpenter tonight who was hit up for 8 hits, 6 runs and 2 HRs in his first start this year. In his limited career Carpenter has allowed 7 HRs to RHHs over 20.1 innings while only posting a 12% K rate. Springer has been the hottest hitter over the past 7 games posting a .519 average with 4 HRs.
Astros vs Carpenter (LHP).
Springer, Bregman, Correa– in play and should be popular. Bregman best splits.
Diaz-hot bat, White, Catcher(Chirinos or Stassi) & Marisnek(.400 average 2HRs last 7 game).– Sneaky and all hit very well vs LHP.
KC Royals
Royals have one of the best matchups on the board tonight as they face off against Shelby Miller who has been getting smashed by batters from both sides of the plate.
Jorge Soler #1 bat for KC followed by Hunter Dozier, Ryan O’Hearn. Merrifield and Mondesi in play as well.
Chris Owings– value bat. Sneaky.
Late Night Hammer
As/Mariners game
Both teams have power upside and T-Mobile field has shown to give up the long ball this year. Mike Leake and Brett Anderson are both mediocre pitchers at best.
Chapman, Davis, Olson, Piscotty and Profar all have ISOs over .200.
Davis may be back after hitting 2 HRs last night, Chapman has BvP vs Leake plus he matches up well. Olson has hit HRs in back to back games and still under priced. Piscotty is the sneaky play and he goes yard tonight.
Seattle bats vs LHP- Santana, Healy are my favorite 2 with EE, Haniger & Beckham coming in next.
BATS
JD Martinez
Martinez has been smoking the ball vs LHP this year and is finally starting to heat up. Free Thad allows 16 runs with 6 HRs over the last 3 games. Freeland likes to throw the slider and Martinez is know to crush that pitch along with Michael Chavis & Mookie Betts who are both in play as well. Oh yeah and it’s JD bobble head night, so ups his chances for a double dongs.
Jorge Soler
Soler has shown power upside vs RHP with a 40% HC rate ate .252 ISO. Add in the fact that Shelby Miller has been getting smoked by RHHs allowing a .441 wOBA, 50% HC and 2.2 HRs/9. This is an excellent spot for Soler and the Royals bats tonight as the go against one of the worst pitchers with some nice weather. See Royals in Teams for stacking.
Matt Chapman
This is an excellent matchup for the As power bats as Leake likes to throw the cutter and sinker and Chapman, Davis & Olson crush these 2 pitches win over a .200 ISO. Chapman has excellent BvP vs Leake to back this up with a .375 average 2HRs and 3 doubles over 16 at bats. Can stack Chapman with Davis & Olson. Profar profiles well vs Leake.
Favorite Catchers– Chirinos/Stassi, Phegley, Value options- Swihart, Castro
VALUE BATS
Matt Olson- under priced and hot bat.
Jake Marisnick– hitting well over last 7 games and way under priced on FD.
Matt Carpenter- goes yard tonight. Stack with Goldschmidt- back to back jacks
Tyler White/Al Diaz
Profar
JD Davis
