Highlighted Games

Loyola Chicago +2.5 vs Miami (3:10 pm EST/ 12:10 pm PST)

The Ramblers of Loyola enter the tournament as the 11-seed in the South Region after qualifying for the first time since 1985. They come in with a 10-game winning streak after capturing the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship. Meanwhile, the Miami Hurricanes come into the game fresh off a thrashing at the hands of North Carolina in the ACC Tournament. Expect this to be a low scoring defensive battle as the boys out here in the desert have this game with the lowest game total (133.5) of any game on the board on Thursday’s NCAA slate. The sharps are backing the Ramblers as one of their strongest plays of the opening day of the Tournament. Don’t be surprised if the Ramblers move on here and win straight up.

South Dakota St +8 vs Ohio State (4:00 pm EST/ 1:00 pm PST)

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits come into the NCAA Tournament as a 12-seed in the West Region taking on the 5-seed Ohio State Buckeyes. South Dakota State, winners of the Summit League, enter Thursday red hot having won 11 games in a row and 19 of their last 20 games overall. The Jackrabbits know how to score as they rank 6th in the nation in scoring at nearly 85 points per game. They also boast one of the best unknown forwards in the country—Mike Daum–who averages 23.8 pts per game and 10.4 rebounds. Ohio State comes in fresh off losing to Penn St in the Big Ten tournament at Madison Square Garden for the 3rd time this season. The Buckeyes had problems with teams front size this season and Daum could prove to be a nightmare match-up for Brutus Buckeye & Co. Time to gobble up the healthy points in this one.

Arizona -8.5 vs Buffalo (9:40 pm EST / 6:40 pm PST)

The much heralded future #1 overall NBA Draft Pick DeAndre Ayton leads the Pac 12 Champion Wildcats into this and he alone will prove to be too much for the Buffalo Bulls. This is lot of points to cover vs the Bulls high powered offense but the Wildcats size should be the big difference in this one and I just don’t see very many second chance points for the Bulls on the boards and Arizona should win this by double digits going away.

  • UPENN +14.5 vs Kansas (2:00 pm EST / 11:00 am PST)

Friday, March 16th Selections

  • Bucknell +14.5
  • New Mexico St +5 *
  • Marshall +12
  • College of Charleston +10 *
  • Murray State +10 vs West Virginia
  • Purdue -20.5 vs CS Fullerton
  • Providence +3.5 vs Texas A&M

Best Bets: New Mexico St +5 & College of Charleston +10

Highlighted Games

New Mexico St +5 v Clemson (9:55 pm EST/ 6:55 pm PST)

This will for sure be a defensive struggle with two teams that should suffocate each other  as Vegas has set a game total (133)—good for 4th lowest on the board of the 32 games in Round One. The sharps are backing the experienced 12-seeded Aggies who have made it to the Big Dance six of the last seven years. The Aggies are one of the top defensive and rebounding teams in the country with standout forward Jemerrio Jones leading the way with 13.2 rebounds per game—the nations 2nd best per game average on the boards.

College of Charleston +10 vs Auburn (7:25 pm EST/ 4:25 pm PST)

The 4-seed Auburn Tigers head into their showdown with 13-seed College of Charleston having dropped 4 of their last 6 games. The Tigers have been ravaged by injuries and are going in the wrong direction come March following an 18 point loss at the hands of Alabama in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. Auburn is so short-handed and average out as one of the shortest teams in the nation—in relation to height–and that makes it difficult for a team missing starters to cover a double digit spread should they get dominated on the glass and see very little second chance baskets.

Bucknell +14.5 vs Michigan State (7:10 pm EST/ 4:10 pm PST)

The 14-seed Bucknell Bison take on the 3-seed Spartans that many have making a Final Four Run to Texas in a few weeks. The Bison come in on a eight game winning streak—winners of 18 of their last 19 overall. Don’t expect a defensive struggle here as the Bison were the top scoring team in the Patriot League and boast the 35th ranked scoring squad in the country. The sharps are expecting a repeat of 2005 when Bucknell seeded in the same spot shocked the country when they upset then 3-seed Kansas Jayhawks–and this year’s team might even more talented than that one. In this spot, they don’t have to win outright, just stay within a healthy double digit spread against a Spartan team that fell in the Big Ten title game to rival Michigan.
